New York City

The city that never sleeps is going to be our stand-in for Halycon City; "a massive, bustling megalopolis. Countless people from countless cultures and walks of life populate this great city. It’s a contradictory and wonderful combination of darkness and light, crime and heroism, corruption and hope, past mistakes and the promise of change. It’s always been the city of tomorrow and yesterday, and that’s never been more true than today"

New-York City has its share of supersheroes, and while extradimensional invasions and rampaging four-hundred-foot monsters in the streets are (thankfully!) exceptional occurrences, minor disturbances are much more frequent. It seems like the city lies in some sort of supernatural nexus, drawing all sorts of madness to its borders.

Why New York?
I've chosen New York City as a stand-in for Halcyon for a more realistic, relatable backdrop and for its iconic landmarks (fighting near a fictional monument doesn't have the same 'oomph' as a battle at the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, or Times Square). New-York is already pretty diverse and cosmopolitan, allowing our characters to be, and engage with, people from all walks of life.

A.E.G.I.S headquarters is located at High Island, the Bronx. The facility serves as the command and nerve center of the agency's operations, and it is from here that its many operatives and analysts monitor superhuman activity in the city, and across the entire globe.

Accessing the paramilitary installation is only possible by a single, well-guarded bridge, or by air. Numerous sentry guns and anti-aircraft missile batteries dotting the perimeter of the island make an unauthorized approach nearly suicidal. Most of the facility itself is concealed within the depths of the earth, buried far down under several tons of reinforced steel and concrete. With their very own power source (rumored to be of alien design), A.E.G.I.S command is ready for anything short of a nuclear war.

Bastion is a massive, futuristic spacecraft that serves as the Vanguard's center of operation. The ship was transported through time by the Traveler, a thousand years from the future. New Yorkers have grown accustomed to the looming presence of the massive vessel above their city; it usually hovers so high above the earth's surface that it is as noticeable in the sky as a passing airplane.
They can only guess as to what secrets are hidden inside its metal hulls.

Flying Freedom's Memorial at Central Park is dedicated to New York's first superhero. The lifelike bronze statue of Maggie MacIntyre was erected in the late 60's to honor her sacrifice in defense of the city.

The Moonstone Grove looked like a quaint little new age shop, to those who didn’t know any better. The proprietor, Marlene Croft, certainly didn’t take any measures to dissuade people of that notion. She had baskets full of crystals up front, with the unverifiable claim of possessing healing properties. Sticks of sweet incense. New age books about yoga and meditation.

The REAL wares were reserved for her more serious clientele. Row after row of odd books, and even odder spell ingredients. Ritual crescent blades and chalices. Herbs and cauldrons, and witches’ ladders. Candlesticks, horns, bells and strange-looking amulets. Each of them had a purpose, and if one was curious and bold enough, their use and function would all be related by the ever-patient Marlene.
