It's raining in London... again (RP)

- Later in the day. -

"The hunt is finally over, for today." Jen replies. "It went a lot longer than we expected, and the kids were tired and cranky by the time we sent them all home."

She listens to your request, and is relieved when you ask her to name a place. "I am still at the museum. I could probably get us into one of the preparation rooms, they should be safe."

Mark thought about it and then replied, "The museum is your work place. The kind of experiments we will do are dangerous and may cause explosions. I don't think that will be a good place? Any abandoned factory or other areas?"

Benji frowns at Rhiannon’s text, perplexed. Be what to my what?

He takes shelter from the rain in the alley next to the Thai restaurant while he waits for Rhiannon to get back to him about her doctor, enjoying the roar of the rain and all the daytime hustle and bustle that he doesn’t usually get to be a part of.

"I'm sorry. I don't any places like that." Jena says with distaste in her voice. "Some of the work rooms are set up to handle pretty rough stuff. A bigger concern would be curious people wandering in and seeing what you are doing." She concedes.

Mark audibly tsked in a disturbed mood. He had been cranky after Jena refused to come to the sanctum and openly lied to him. He was doing all this stuff alone, and his patience was getting eroded quickly. "Alright, you fix a room that can handle flames. I am coming to the museum."

Somewhat frustrated by the lack of results, Jacob prepares another cup of tea. While it's brewing, he does one of his morning routines: feed the raven and make sure he's all right.

He serves the tea and picks up his phone to text Rhiannon:

Hey, does the name Millicent Fawcett ring a bell? I'm behind something and it seems that this 19th century lady has something to do with it. She was one of your youth heroes, wasn't she?.

Rhiannon agrees to Bev's request. "Okay, I'll be there and stay around. I'll pick him up and bring him by. He's not a bad sort for someone who drinks the wrong sort of tea."

She texts Benii and asks him to pin drop his location not even realizing the Vampire did not get Rhiannon's reference to the Twilight series. Once she has the pin drop she's able to drive down to where Beni said he would be. The Aston Martin Vanquish she owns is a number of years out of date and seems to be more bondo than metal in some places but, it certainly gets her around. "Get in, I'll take you somewhere to help you get fixed up. You're sure we don't need to go find a mugger or something like that? I'd be happy to lure some creeps out for you to feed on."

She knows he's a vampire but, in her mind, he's her vampire and a good guy. She's absolutely more than willing to hunt down some criminals to make sure he gets fed.

Of course, in all of this some of the Stone Demons is getting missed but, maybe she and Benji can get back on that track once he's feeling better.

Earlier
She had been at the Greenpark station looking around when she got Jacob’s text. She chuckles to herself about Millicent Fawcett. "19th Century? I thought Millicent was more recent than that? Maybe it’s a different person or maybe I’m thinking of the wrong one. "

As she’s wandering the area she tries to get a feel for it. Could this be a place of power? If so then maybe she can study it more. Otherwise it’s just going to be old fashioned looking around.

Green Park Station is big and busy, if there is a Place of Power here, you can not find it with the constant throng of people passing through it, though that has a power of it own.

Benji lets you know his location. Maybe he will be more able to sus out an underground station, he is more familiar with the places.

The Millicent Fawcett you know of is dead, and had been for a while. If Jacob in interested in historical details you may be able to help, but there are more pressing things going on right now.

Benji bundles into the passenger seat of Rhiannon’s car. "Sorry for troubling you with this! I really owe you one."

He furrows his brow at her suggestion about the muggers, conflicted. There is a part of him that is very excited about the idea, but he doesn’t usually like to think about that part.

"If you think that would be best," he says, hesitantly, hoping that Rhiannon will make the decision for him. If Rhiannon thinks it’s a good idea then it can’t be so bad.

"You can help me track down any more of the demons. I’m still not sure if any others are out there or what they were planning on doing. Now, be nice to Beverly she and I had a short thing after I had been burned by Fierna. It didn’t work out, mostly my fault, but she’s still willing to talk with me and knows a little bit about our world." She can’t help but think more about Beverly as they are driving. Mocha skin, a bit on the plump side, and usually had her hair in corn rows. Bev was a good person and Rhiannon could have been better to her but, the hunter was way too often busy hunting and had avoided anything too serious.

As to the muggers she shrugs and says, "Hey if it’s some taboo against the unwilling or something then let me know. I’m not a vampire expert. I suppose if one started going after the innocent count me in otherwise live and let live or be undead as the case might be."

She also checked back in with Charles to see if the former demons had done anything more than move. She hopes he’s keeping them in different boxes or something.

Mark took his implements, required books and the stave along with any necessary ingredients. Hiring a cab, he went to the museum checking if there were lot of people still taking an evening tour. Standing outside the museum, he called Jena again, "I am at the entrance. Can you meet me and take me to the room you described?"

Jacob finishes his tea and, seeing that Rhiannon hasn't texted back yet, decides to take his research to the street. He puts on his black coat and his hat, and turns the bookshop sign hanging on the main entrance's glass to 'Closed'.

Then he heads to see the statue of Millicent Fawcett. Who knows, there might be a clue there, or perhaps if he's lucky, he'll be able to hear the same voice that asked Jim in the first place.

An assistant who you have met, but don't know very well, answers Charles phone. "Mr Whittier is in the loo." He says, sounding very prim and proper, as always. "And you know how long that can take. I offered to bring him his phone, but he swore at me and threatened me with death... or warned me that 'it would be the death of me to enter for a while'. I will give him your message."

If you ask him more about the sample, he will confirm: "There is a rock on the workbench, it fits your description. I don't know what you mean by 'doing anything', it looks like a rock, it is just sitting there. I will keep an eye on it." He would agree without much conviction.

Parliament Square is fairly full of people, considering the weather. Most are spending more time complaining about said weather than 'touristing', but they are still looking at the sights (mostly the ones that don't require them to look up) and asking silly questions of anyone who will listen.

There are a whole bunch of statues in the square, and you may not have noticed before, but, thinking as you now are, they appear to be arranged in interesting patterns —the tilt of a shoulder or cock of an eyebrow seemingly directed at other statues, or pointedly ignoring another (a literal cold-shoulder)— and there seems to be a sense of 'life' (though not as we know it) to them that you had not noticed before. People talk of artworks 'having a life of their own' and you might suspect something like that at play here.

It is not hard to find the statue of Millicent Fawcett, standing sternly (is she holding washing? surely that is not a pillow-case?) on the edge of the green.

"No, not a taboo," says Benji, carefully. He knows many vampires who could not care less about whether their prey is ‘innocent’ or willing or not (after all, does a human eating a steak worry about the cow’s innocence?), but he thinks it’s probably best not to mention that to Rhiannon. "It just appeals to an instinct I usually try not to indulge."
May 26, 2024 9:57 pm
Charles would be in there a while but, she hopes the assistant will actually keep an eye on the rock or rocks. She mentally tries to remember how many she hand and come up with twenty four or about six pieces per demon. She hadn’t exactly put them back together to be sure and at this point doing that was the last thing she wanted to do. She just says, "Just keep an eye on the stone. If it starts moving put it in some holy water or something."

Meanwhile she nods to Benji as she multitasks, "Probably a good idea. Oh look here we are." Beverly lives in a nicer flat and Rhiannon parks in the garage nearby. She heads to the door and hits the buzzer.

"Yes, miss. I have holy water ready, miss." Jordan (for that is assistant's name, you now remember) agrees.

"I was wondering miss." He barrels on, as though desperate to get the words out before he loses his nerve. "What are you doing on Friday night? There is a rather good play in the West End. And I have tickets." Briefly it sounds like he is offering you tickets, but then that hope is dashed by the words: "We could go for dinner first."

At the same time Jordan is saying this, you hear Bev's voice on the door-phone and she buzzes you in.

Jacob searches for a pattern in the arrangement of the statues until his gaze settles on the statue of Millicent Fawcett. Beyond the prominent sign urging courage, he looks for any additional sign, inscription, or clue that might suggest the statue is more than just a large, inanimate bronze figure. Once he's sure he's alone and unheard, he ventures to whisper, "Mrs. Fawcett? I'm a friend of James; I've come for your book."

From behind, you can see that a section of the "courage" placard the statue holds is less weathered than the rest, almost like it is used to having books, or something, resting there to shield it from the elements, it is currently empty.

You feel fairly confident that this is the one... if you can trust Slippery Jim's tale. Confident enough to try talking to the statue and hope no one notices.

The statue, unsurprisingly, stares unwaveringly over your head and does not respond. But a small voice chirps up from your elbow. "She ain't gonna talk to you, bruv." Says a previously unnoticed street urchin of indeterminate gender and age. "She don't know you. You might be a trick, you know how they are." The urchin does not quite hold out a hand for a hand-out, but it is implied. (Maybe you should check your pockets, see that you still have any valuables you may have been carrying when you got here.)
