It's raining in London... again (RP)

- Rhiannon -

The pre-dawn dark hides your movements as you approach the alley. But I hope your phone is off or on silent when the text message comes in, probably no time to do anything about that now.

You can hang back in Charing Cross Road, they are in range of your bow, but even at this hour there is some traffic so you risk drawing attention to yourself. Or you can sneak into the alley, you can not see the far side, but it appears empty aside from the demons.

They stop, confer, and stare at one of the buildings. With a sinking feeling you recognise the place. It is Jacob's bookstore and home.

What do you do?

Benji is not so sure about his odds either now that he’s sizing himself up against his opponents. If they were human, it wouldn’t be a problem, but these four are definitely not. He glances up at Jacob’s window anxiously and then back at the four goons, but it doesn’t seem like the demon is about to come rushing downstairs to help him. Mustering his courage, he suddenly darts out of his hiding place and pounces upon one of the men, attempting to stab him in the back before he can get his wits about him.

Her phone is on silent so she just feels a buzz on her side. She shrugs and mentally apologizes to whomever sent the text because she has more important things to handle right now. The traffic suggests that if she pulls out her bow someone is going to notify the coppers so, she decides to see if she can't get these demons into the alleyway.

Before she can put her plan into action Benji comes rushing out to stab one! Right in front of traffic? She sighs knowing that they are both likely to get in trouble for this one. Afterall she can't have her mate eaten by demons without doing something about it. So, she rushes in close and stabs one as well. Maybe the cars will think they are just having a bit of a dust up?

Jacob sees Benji step out of the shadows to surprise one of the demons. The imp calculates the distance: four or five paces, maybe a little more than desirable. The demon might hear Benji before he can strike, so Jacob decides to help with a distraction.

He turns on the lights in the apartment and opens the window. Now he's clearly visible, so the demons could shoot at him if they brought long-range weapons, but it's worth the risk. Those few extra seconds might help Benji strike before the others notice.

"Here I am, scum. What brings you to my house and who sent you here?".

Mark watched the confrontation between Benji and the dangerous looking people that gathered in front of the shop. He closed his umbrella and with the tip of it, started drawing a goetic symbol on the ground.

The puddles of water formed in the alley ground all became still and started to stand like glass shards and then immediately shattered and rained upwards, reaching for the sky.

OOC: Rolling to Mislead, distract, Trick. For this move, I am choosing You confuse them for sometime and you create an opportunity.

- Benji -

You stab your sword into one of the rear demons 'unarmoured' flanks, but there is resistance, its hide is tough and grates on the metal of your weapon, limiting its effectiveness (3 Harm minus 1 Armour). It turns to you in angry surprise and snarls in your face, raising its clawed hand to swing...
- Jacob -

The three other demons look up at your call, they 'smile' (though maybe only you recognise the expression as such) and draw short staves from under their rain-jackets. All three point them at you, and you know this will go badly until...
- Rhiannon -

You run up on cat-feet —the splash of the rain making more noise than you do— and drive your seax into the closest demon. You know where best to strike for optimal damage, and your weapon penetrates deeply into the demons stony body, the silver allowing it to slip through will little resistance. (1+1+1 Harm AP)

The demon shatters into a hundred pieces of rock, pelting its companions with clattering fragments and causing one to trip and stumble and turn to look at you in anger ... which quickly changes to fear as it recognises just who you are.

It raises its stave to strike you... and stops...
- Jacob -

Only one of the two remaining demons manage to fire their weapon at you. Apparently the staves are ranged weapons, and a lance of boiling plasma streaks out, shattering your window and striking you in the chest and chin, making your ears ring, and leaving a scorch-mark on the ceiling. But they underestimated you —maybe you are stronger now than you were when you last dealt with 'the below'— and you shrug off the blow... But you don't think you can take another one quite so easily though.

What do you do? Do you show them defiance?
- Benji -

You are in a bad spot. The demon's claws look like they can cleave a person in twain, and your sword is still caught in its hide. You are maybe just thinking that you may need to decide about abandoning the weapon or taking an undefended bow when the demon just ... stops, its jaw going slack and its eyes vacant.
- Benji, Jacob, and Rhiannon -

You don't know why the demons just stopped. It could be a trick? Maybe you can finish them before it is over? Maybe you can get away?

What do you do?
- Mark -

There is a press of bodies in the alley. Through the rain you see one of the demons fire a weapon at Jacob's building and glass scatters down to the stones.

You channel your energies, and release a measured portion upon the four... no, make that three, demons in the alley, they slow and stagger, and look stunned, but you know this will not hold them long, especially not if they are jolted awake by an attack.

What do you do? What does it look and feel like for you to Channel and cast magic?

Mark had drawn the goetic symbol on the water puddles that linked everyone, one of the alley pedestrians. He could see Benji and Rhiannon already engaged with this wild folks. However, before they started to gang up on the shop owner, Mark decided to even the play. He sent a ripple that went out in concentric circles over the alleyway, even when the alley was not fully flooded. But, water started to collate on the feet of these wild men, and under the rain everyone of them was wet. He slowly whispered, "Creto Stagnum" and the goetic symbol glowed in electric blue.

She looks over at Benji, "Benji, when fighting demons you can’t just stab like that. Sword gets stuck you see, try and go for one of the vulnerable spots." Her instructions come with deadly demonstration. Her seax is as deadly in her hands as it was in her Celtic ancestors carving up demon as easy as gutting a fish.

The helplessly stunned demon can do nothing to gainsay your assault, and it, too, shatters into hundreds of marble-sized pieces with no opportunity to retaliate.

You have taken out two of the four enemies in the same number of breaths —and looked good doing it— but you still don't know why they stopped just as one saw you nor how long it will be before they are back.

What do you do?
OOC:
On a 10+ on Turn to Violence you get to choose one of the three options. It is dead, so there is no point inflicting terrible harm, though.

"Rhiannon!" Benji exclaims, happy to see his friend and very glad that he’s not facing these demons alone. Quite certain that he doesn’t have the skill to emulate what Rhiannon is doing with her seax, he falls back on his vampiric strength instead, trying to push the trapped blade through the demon’s body and out the other side.

It had been a long time since he last had to deal with infernal fire. Jacob briefly looks at the shattered window and the burnt ceiling, thinking about the cost of repairs, and almost forgetting for a moment he's been on the verge of dying.

He turns his attention back to the street, where a figure who is not Benji has finished two demons off. Wait, is that Rhiannon? That mortal woman is magical, he only texted her like, what, one minute ago?

Now it's two against two, so Jacob really hopes his partners can handle the situation. Also, the demons seem to be frozen for some strange reason, perhaps Rhiannon has a new magical toy she's testing on the ground. Just in case, Jacob decides not to expose himself any further, and goes downstairs to watch the end of the fight from the more secure bookshop.

- Benji -

Forcing the blade through the hard 'flesh' takes a lot longer than would be safe if the demon were paying attention, but it only slowly reaches for the wound —as though puzzled by what is happening— before you split it almost in two, and it falls, 'lifeless'. Where one might expect blood and guts, the inside looks more like .... stone? clay? polystyrene? That's just weird!

What do you do?

"Not quite sitting at your place and complaining about my troubles is it?" She jokes with her friend.

I’m not sure why they aren’t moving. Maybe it’s time to ask questions before I end this last one hmm?" Not her usual style but, she has her chain wrapped around her and can go ahead and use it to keep the thing still and then maybe get some answers.

"It's a little more perilous than our usual get-togethers," Benji agrees, kicking one of the stony lumps of demon flesh scattered across the ground. He helps Rhiannon tie up the remaining demon by pinning its arms behind its back while she wraps the chain around it.

When the demon sees that it is Rhiannon who is trying to capture it, it looks scared, and starts to thrash against her restraints.

You try to help, but it is desperate and swings a backhand at your head in the moment before it is held. Its fist hits like a automobile!

The whole fight is over in no time —three 'dead' and one captured— but the noise of the shattering glass and the howl of the stave has drawn some attention. You don't hear sirens, but the curtain in a window across the alley from Jabob's bookshop twitches and you feel someone watching you.

You all saw Jacob take a vicious lance of energy to the chest and face and then vanish from his upstairs window.

What do you do?

Benji staggers back a few steps and sits down hard on the ground, dazed. His ears are ringing and his vision is blurry and swimming with stars. He touches the side of his head and stares, confused, at the blood on his fingers.
May 5, 2024 1:59 pm
Mark was watching the entire exchange from a distance. Once he knew that the situation was under control, he started to walk towards the bookshop. He had to check whether the bookshop owner was doing alright. Only then can he be sure if the danger was truly avoided.
May 5, 2024 5:24 pm
On reaching the ground floor, Jacob switches on one of the table lamps and looks through the bookshop window to see that the fight is over. However, it appears that Benji has been injured.

Jacob enters the 8-digit passcode to deactivate the shop's security system and opens the door.

"Quick! Come inside before one of the neighbours decides to call the Bobbies," he says, waving his hand at his friends. Then he realizes another man is walking down the alley. Is that Mark?

Benji slowly stands up, wincing, and makes his way into Jacob’s shop, still a bit unsteady on his feet. He gives Rhiannon’s captured demon a wide berth.

"Are you alright?" he asks Jacob. "It looked like you got hit with one of those magic stick things they had."
