OOC:
gotcha, thanks for the confirmation.
After Kelnes arrives on board he stands up, and puts his trident across his back. Irois blesses us with victory today, but I doubt that will be the end of the dangers we will face.. With a whistle he calls for Argos to come to him and gives him a pat on the head. The routine after battle is there. Thanks Irois, scratch Argos. Kelnes then walks to someplace quiet and takes a much needed rest.
OOC:
will wait to see if anyone offers healing before spending Hit Dice if that is ok

OOC:
Casting healing word on Kelnes and healing through goblet constellation
[ +- ] Starry Form
[ +- ] Twinkling Constellations
I thought such a creature would be more intelligent than a predator fighting to it's death not understanding when to retreat. druid is more surprised than disappointed about the death of two magnificent creatures.

Rolls

Healing Kelnes - (1d4+5)

(4) + 5 = 9

healing Omeros - (2d8+5)

(84) + 5 = 17

As you all continue to collect yourselves, you notice a few men from the crew on the ground, frozen and not moving. It doesn't take any medical examination to tell that these sailors died instantly from the cold breath of the serpents. The captain tells one of the crew to take over the helm and he walks down to you all as you continue healing each other. "Every life lost is a tragedy, but they knew what was possible by coming aboard this trip. As for the next leg of our trip, we will need all of your help. In about an hour, we will get close enough to the coast that we will have to make it past the rocky coast to find somewhere to drop you off. The coast is too deadly for small boats. They will be torn apart. Our only hope is to take a very specific path to get the main boat through. Be ready."

Rolls

Number of crew that died in the fight - (2d4-2)

(22) - 2 = 2

The dead will be honored when we accomplish our goal. Any help with the ship you need with those you have lost...just let us know

Kelnes bows his head in respect.

Were these the dark waters of Tartyx dragging him down to the Underworld? Was that Erebos awaiting his soul? Were those two other souls descending to the dead?

No! Light... and air!

"Keranos!" Omeros gasped as he regained consciousness.

He got unsteadily to his hooves and inspected the ocean around the ship.

"We smote the overgrown eels! Keranos be praised! And thank you, Isaiah! Thank all of you for bringing me back!"

His tone shifted once he saw the two dead sailors.

"Grant them rest, Erebos. Their journey ends so that ours may continue. We will do whatever we can to secure the ship, captain."
OOC:
Alive!
Late night. I'll see about additional healing tomorrow.
So. Much. Healing.

Doing the nerfed rest

Rolls

Hit dice x3 - (3d8+12)

(814) + 12 = 25

Captain, how do you mean only hope and what we must be ready for? Isaiah asks an immediately suggests: If your safety is jeopardised... get us safely within about a mile from the coast I'll manage the rest.
OOC:
Unless any PC happened to be of large size I can turn into giant eagle and carry everyone else one-by-one to the land. Can't I?
May 21, 2024 7:26 pm
The captain strokes his beard. "It is possible you might be able to fly everyone over the rocky coast, but I doubt you would do so unseen. The rocks would hide our approach, meaning it might be possible for you all to approach the monster's lair unseen, though only might. If you fly in, I doubt you would make it to the beach before you are spotted and attacked mid air over the rocks. If we take the boat, the rocks might damage the boat but we could hide our approach."

I think what he’s saying is an airborne giant eagle would be easier to spot since it’s in the air. Also for this campaign the Dm wanted limits on flying and teleportation
"I will take my chances on the ship. I am not suited to riding on flying animals. Perhaps the Triton here can help with the ship’s navigation. A scout that can see underwater is boon to a ship wishing to avoid unseen hazards"

If someone is able to cast waterwalking I can essentially do the same thing. Load everyone into a dingy a I pull it like a cart.
May 21, 2024 8:10 pm
just kidding. I can't do that
Druid just wish captain the best of luck

OOC:
I'll go ahead and level set with you all. The plan was to have the boat have to navigate through sharp rocks to get close to the beach and let you guys off, which would be handled by a skill challenge. If you guys want to circumvent it, I should probably be ok with it, as players are supposed to be empowered. Just keep these things in mind:

If the boat is left behind, you will have to get back to it somehow.

If you go by air there is an extremely high chance of being spotted as there is a guardian that would notice you.

The water is deep enough for the boat, but sharp rocks can damage the hull. A small boat can navigate failure easily, but is still not safe.

Essentially, I see you have these options:
1. Take to the skies but risk getting attacked mid air over the water.
2. Take a small boat, which would be stealthy but easier for the rocks to break.
3. Take the ship and crew, but you will need to help it get through safely.

"Yes, Chironides," Omeros said amidst a coughing fit, "but a skiff guided by Kelnes might be a better option for us. We need not endanger this ship and its crew more than necessary."
May 22, 2024 5:04 am
aye, Omeros i could do my best to keep our vessel true to corse among the waves. We may indeed have a plan

OOC:
As a player I prefer to use my brain to solve 5e challenges in a safe way. Only hope for dice not to screw mew up I fail to come up with safe solution.
But if that's only me I'm cool with following what other players want.

My other idea was:
1. Turn into giant Octopus
2. Everyone but Kelnes dring water breath potions captain suggested during fight
3. Tie a rope to the Octopus and swim under the water ( if it is deep enough to large ship, it should be safe for a creature with native swim speed)
4. Large creature with str 17 should be albe to drag 3-4 PCs under the water as he swims, shouldn't it...

OOC:
ok, I see 3 voted for small boat, but there was an "other". Just to be safe, this will be the last poll before the story progresses

Method of approach?

Take a small boat. Pro: those in boat are able to help. Con: if boat hits rock it will break
Use a wild shape octopus, water breathing potions, and rope to drag everyone to shore. Pro: very stealthy. Con: those without swim speed will not be much help if something happens
May 22, 2024 1:15 pm
Chiron suggests:

The Octopus (Isaiah) and Triton (Kelnes) underwater and pulling on ropes tied to the small boat would the perfect way to precisely guide the boat through any underwater threats such as rocks... they would be able to detect dangerous shallows and rocks ahed of time and then move the boat as needed to avoid damage.
