"For myself," Chigaru rumbles. "I'm looking or one of those lucky talismans as a...uh...graduation present for myself. I don't much care if it is actually 'lucky,' I just want something that looks nice and is not too...uh...delicate."

"Ooooh. how about love?" Saldrina responds delightedly.

Khel looked up at Father Zantus and smiled with a bow. "Greetings, Father Avstalar Zantus. My name is Khel Turbane; I am a traveller from the southern lands. The nation of Qadira is my birthplace. I heard that the town donated to the restoration of the cathedral. Was there a fire incident before? It is a sad affair and I hope the souls lost has safely reached the bosom of the Lady of Graves. I am not so much familiar with goddess Desna. Can you enlighten me about her deeds, father. Is she the protector of this town perhaps?"

Grim has half a mind to slap the old man, but it quickly dissipates. He knows the poor bastard lost his child last year, and his wife has been steadily losing her mind since. And despite that, or as a result of, he was good enough to give him steady work with pay.

In a kind-ish voice, "I will. You should get out there Bilivar, with Vorah and the kids, I'm sure they'll enjoy it. Maybe even give you some peace for a bit."

Tha halfling leaves to finish up with Vinder, then check the food stalls after. He's feeling a bit peckish after smelling Bilivar's food.

nezzeraj says:
"I am Chigaru Goretusk. You have a sharp eye, Mr. Xinchi. However," he looks between Li and the skittish man who seems to be waiting for him, "I think you might have some business here that I should absent myself from. I was on my way to buy a necklace from the marketplace and then head to the cathedral. If Fortune indeed has a hand, maybe our paths will cross again there." Chigaru gives a bow with just his head and leaves the alley to inspect some vendor wares.
"I can see that the eye of yours is as sharp or even sharper than mine, Mr. Goretusk" - Li he nodded his head in appreciation - "Indeed, I have some businesses to attend here first. So hoping to see you at the cathedral later. If the Fortune will be kind to us again and will allow to discover why our paths has crossed."

Li answered the reserved bow of Chigaru with the same manner and immediately turned his steps towards Bart.
Furmyr says:
The man seems to relax as the half-orc walks the other way. "Thought you might be in the business of beatin' the information from my head," the man says. "You were lookin' for someone. Small girl, of Minkai descent? Not alot of those around. Though I might now somethin'. A few months ago, a man came through with a girl fittin' the description. They had a meetin' with one of 'em rich bastards livin' on the hill. Lonjiku Kaijitsu. Don't know what they were meetin' about. And they left the next day. No one took any notice, just figured it was family or somesuch."
Hearing the information that Bart has provided Li, he was nothing less than shocked.
"Could this be the breakthrough I've been waiting for?"
To try to hide his emotions - at all cost - he decided to tell a half true:
"Bart... ! I'm shocked..." - Li made a theatrical pause here - "you actually proved to be useful!" - Li ended with deep breath out and firm tap on the man's arm, so unusual for his everyday calm and reserved attitude. But he pulled himself together fast.

"Although the girl may not be as short as she used to be, because it's been a while since I last saw her with my own eyes. 3 years.. and 233 days to be exact... so she's about 19 years old now... but it may actually be the case that she's still quite short. After her mother. And yes: she is definitely of Minkai descent!

"The purest blood of Minkai people! The royal one! Heavens forbid this man getting to know who she really is!" - Li almost shouted those thoughts out loud, but somehow managed to keep his face calm.

"Here. It's 5 gold coins. I will give you 5 more WHEN you will tell me who is this Lonjiku Kaijitsu, where can I find him, what are his 'preassure points' and help me arrange a meeting with him. As soon it will be even remotly possible."
OOC:
To be honest I'm still learning about economy of this world, so I'm not sure if 10 gp would be ok for such guy and such service?
Supstracting 5 gp from my sheet, for now. Of corse I assume that the price for the information was set beforehead, but for this new task Li maybe intentionally making it lower to have same space for haggling:)

Chigaru

Katrine Vinder
The saleswoman smiles at you. "Graduation? Good for you. Guess congratulations are in order."

She motions for some jewelry on her right side. "How about one of these butterfly charms. Supposed to bring Desna's luck."

Saldrina

Fortune Teller
The fortune teller nods at you. "Well, then. Come closer."

She waits until you sit down and then she takes out an old battered Harrow deck and shuffles it. She holds it out to you and ask you to pick a card. Turning over your chosen card, it is revealed to be the Unicorn. The old woman makes a hmm sound and continue with the reading.

She puts down nine cards divided between three rows. "The first row represents the past, the second the present and the third row the future," she explains and turns over the first card. Revealing the Trumpet. The next card below that one is the Rabbit Prince and finally the last card of the first column is the Idiot.

"You come from a powerful family?" it's as much a statement as a question. "The Rabbit Prince tells me that. You have power that much is clear. The Trumpet is a decleration of power. Someone who'll wade into the direst of situations without hesitation. Though be wary that you do it for the right reasons and don't be blinded by greed."

She moves on to the next row. The first card proves to be the Courtesan. The next the Foreign Trader and the final card the Lost. "Again a symbol of a powerful woman, the Courtesan. The Foregin trader is the card of spies and peddlers. You are seeking something. Your place in the world perhaps? The Lost is the card for emptiness and loss of identity. You may be alone now, but that can change?"

She finally starts on the last row, the row representing the future. The first card turns out to be Sickness, the second the Keep and the third the Winged Serpent. "The sickness is a bad card in most cases. But it is misaligned, meaning it represent great health. Or possibly children. The keep is a symbol of great strength and fortitude in hardships. You will prove to resist misfortune that will come. It is a good trait. The Winged Serpent is also misaligned, it represents seizing a moment. But in this position it is a warning to not seizing love or choosing wrong."

The lady starts gathering the cards. "I see love in your future, though the fates warns you to use your head and not be lost in your feelings."

Khel

Avstalar Zantus
"She is the goddess of freedom and luck," Father Zanthus says. "And she has seen our town through quite an ordeal. It is true the last church burned down with Father Tobyn and his ward only five short years ago. But this only part of the late unpleasantness. Desna has guided us the years since."

"Though we hope to leave that all behind us as we look to a brighter future."

Grimwulf

Ven Vinder
You make your way over to Ven Vinder. The general store is almost empty as you arrive, not many people after general goods while a festival is going on. Besides you know he has roped his daughters into helping during the festival, running his market stall.

A small bell chimes as you enter. A heavyset bearded man looks up at you from behind the counter. "Ah. Young Mr. Goodbarrel. How may I help?"

Li

Bart
Bart pockets the coins greedily. "He's the richest man in town or not far from it," Bart replies. "Owns and operates the glassworks. Lives up on the hill. Makin' a meetin' will be hard. But not impossible, so I'll get right on that."

"Though rumor has it he's taken ill, I figure it is just to avoid the festival right. He probably wouldn't want to socialize with the likes of us if you catch my drift."

Khel nods, listening to the father. "Is Sandpoint somehow related to goddess Desna's in a specific way? I mean, is there any specific myth about Desna and Sandpoint. The town seem to celebrate her in a special way. I am wondering if any myth of Desna is perhaps entwined with Sandpoint's past perhaps? Is there any place where I can study the past records of this town?"
May 24, 2024 2:25 pm
Chigaru rubs his chin. "Hm...a butterfly... Well, they are pretty sure, but not exactly known for strength. I was looking for something a little...stronger."
May 24, 2024 7:50 pm
Nodding at the shopkeeper "How are you Ven? Your cart's ready, stop by to pick it up whenever."

Noticing the lack of foot traffic, "Think I'll stop by your stall, pick up some pie and wine," tapping the side of his nose as he says that, "and say hello to your daughters."

Grim had a bit of a thing for Ven's older daughter Shayliss, and was hoping to see her there.

Saldrina smiles at the woman and gives her whatever is owed, plus 2 gp for a tip. "Thank you! I will heed your advice," she says as she leaves the tent. It's time I found something to eat. I wonder what the Hagfish offers? She begins to head in that direction.
May 25, 2024 1:00 am
Banny says:
"You look like a stout fellow! You want part of this game!?"
Wess looks at his axe with a concerned frown before replying to with a smile; "Ah, thank ya lad, but no. Y'ever heard a song about a person smashing targets? No matter how good they are at it. Dawn's Light here is meant for bigger things he says patting the hilt. And then there's the matter of my empty belly. Good day lad" he adds with a chuckle.

Khel

Avstalar Zantus
"Through that door is an open door courtyard that the cathedral is built around," Father Zantus says pointing to a door to the side. "It's built around seven standing stones. They were a Varisian place of worship long before the town was settled. The seven stones representing the seven towers of Desna's otherworldly palace."

"Though we have altars for worship of Erastil, Abadar, Shelyn, Gozreh and Sarenrae as well. All is welcome here."

He pauses and thinks a little on your other question. "Sadly most writings and records perished in the fire. Your best bet would be either Brodert Quink or Madame Mvashti. Bodert is a engineer and a historian specializing in Varisian history. His theories is... how to put it..." he pauses again. "There's a reason he's here in town and not lecturing at a prestigious academy. But despite that he sits on a treasure trove of knowledge."

"Madam Mvasti has been here as long as there has been a Sandpoint. She was old back when I was a mere initiate. They say when the town was founded the Varisians demanded a mansion be built for her in payment for settling. The Mercantile League agreed, assuming she would pass within a few years. Yet these decades later she's still with us."

Chigaru & Grimwulf

Katrine Vinder
"What about this one?" she asks and holds up a small charm in the form of a starknife. "Don't know how much you know of Desna, but it represents her home on the North Star. It is said to always bring you luck and always find your way home."

Just then Grimwulf arrive to see the wrong sister working the stall at the moment. She smiles at you.

Wess & Saldrina

Jargie Quinn
The two of you arrive almost simultaneously to the Hagfish. Before you even enter you can hear the sounds from inside and the smell of seafood.

Entering the first thing that grabs your attention is a big glass aquarium that sits behind the bar. You realize why the tavern is called the Hagfish when you see the aquarium's solitary inhabitant, a Varisian Hagfish. Next to the aquarium hangs a pouch and in front of it an old man tends the bar, and you can see him limping back and forth on a wooden left leg.

Already early in the afternoon most of the tables are taken and it looks like you will have to share. The bartender calls out to you over the din of people. "Find yourself a seat and we'll be with you in a jiff."

Around you people are playing everything from cards to checkers to dice to darts. While two serving women darts back and forth between the tables and the bar.
May 25, 2024 2:26 pm
Saldrina takes a seat at the table and extends her hand to Wess. "Looks like we're tablemates. I'm Saldrina, but my friends call me Sal."
May 25, 2024 2:47 pm
"A pleasure. Name's Wess. Kind of ya to break bread with this old brute." he gives a laugh as he gestures to the aquarium. "Whats with the fish? That's not a symbol of Desna is it?"
May 25, 2024 3:40 pm
"Not that I know of," Sal responds. "I think that Desna is represented by the butterfly. But I'm not really much help when it comes to deities."

"Oh good, then Desna won't mind if I eat seafood then." he says, and goes to order a meal.
May 26, 2024 1:55 am
Chigaru knows at first sight that the starknife pendant is exactly what he was looking for. "You have a keen shopkeep's eye. The starknife is exactly what I was looking for and I didn't even know it. It even looks like one of the throwing weapons we monks train with called shuriken. I will take it. How much?" As he is paying he says, "I know about Desna from my time here. I think she is a fine choice to put one's faith in."
May 26, 2024 4:40 am
Grimwulf smiles warmly back at Katrine, not the sister he was hoping for but a pleasant sight nonetheless. "Afternoon Katrine, slice of pie and bottle of rotgut."

While waiting for his order, he overhears Chigaru speak of the star knife, and chimes in, "It's a fair weapon, but don't you mostly preach about inner peace and punch things?"
May 26, 2024 5:28 am
Khel listened to the father deeply. "I am grateful for all this knowledge, Father Zantus. It's always a pleasure to meet a knowledgeable person and be enlightened. It is also interesting to note that this cathedral is built upon a Varisian place of worship. I am quite happy to know that Dawnflower is also paid homage here, along with others. Back in Qadira, she is followed strongly. I will pray for all the gods and goddesses here."

He then listened to the father regarding the other person. "Thank you for pointing me to more people regarding Varisian history. I will speak with Brodert Quink and Madam Mvhasti, as I am researching Varisian magic and ancient lore."
May 26, 2024 6:14 am
Chigaru chuckles as he turns to the man half his size. "A bit simplistic perhaps, but yes. But our fists are useless against enemies out of our reach. It is prudent to be trained in all manner of weapons. The brain and soul most of all." Chigaru hopes this sounds wise; it sounded like something his master would have said. "And what of your own arms? Is it not a little...overcompensatory?"
