Session 01 - The Burning Secret

"Miss Kimberley Watson" says Kimmy airily, before laughing "Kimmy's fine, not even my parents call me Kimberley"

Benbo shouting "Abs of Steel" accross the Fayre ground does not go unnoticed.
Although the context of it, might go unnoticed.
Some older teens walk by, they look at Benbo shouting this, then look at his figure, and laugh loudly as they walk on.

At the high striker the gamerunning laughs. "Did I hear someone having steel muscles? Give it a swing!" he says, promoting his game and gesturing at the large collection of plush animals available.

Just near him is the ticket boot of the ferris wheel. An elderly woman sits in the boot and looks annoyed at Kimmy and Abigail who are openly discussing if the ride is safe. Without saying anything she points at a certificate which has been posted at one of the side windows of the ticket booth. It says that some authorities have committed some inspection some 5 years ago...

Kimmy steps towards the striker, but pauses and looks at Ethan, "How about it Ethanovich? You want a go?" her voice is light but there's an air of challenge in her statement.

"Ethanovitch, good one Benbo. Like the former head of the Stasi, right?" She gulps and wants to pretend she didn't say that, but it's too late.

"Come on, spymaster, give it your all "

Ethan was impartial toward trying the high striker – until Kimmy and Avigail challenged him to.
Once they did, it was akin to flipping a switch in his mind. His expression hardened, his soft countenance replaced with one of steely determination

"Hold on to it!"

His denim jacket would only impede his range of motion, so it was best to leave it in Benbo’s hands.
Moving past the others, he picked up the wooden mallet to test its weight, carefully adjusting his grip as he stood before the tower. Once he set into his stance he didn’t dilly-dally much longer, raising the mallet, and swinging it down with controlled precision.

*Smash!*

With a resonant thud, the puck was sent racing up the tower, the bell at the top clanging loudly once it reached its zenith.

"We have a winner!" the guy at the high striker says, showing Ethan a collection of 3 feet tall plushies to chose from.
"Quite the young strong man you are," the man says, looking at Abigail and Kimmy as well. "Did you win this to show off to your girlfriend?" he asks amicably.

Kimmy's eyes go wide as the bell rings, "Holy shit, you been working out?", not that he was ever really weak, climbing trees and hiking all over saw to that.

She realises she's grabbed his arm in the moment and quickly lets go, dropping her voice back to as close to nonchalance as she can manage "Well, I guess I can't top that without somehow knocking the bell off, so I guess we should move on."

Ben looks at his friend, jaw-dropped. "Whoawhoawhoa, Ethan the Mighty! You won the Hamzilla-sized one! Hahaha!"

He focuses for a moment, then wears Ethan's denim jacket (it is way too tight), turns his baseball cap back to front and bursts out in the bassy voice of one of his characters, BUM-DMC da rapper:

Who's a legend, fall and summa
When you see him, m-makes you stamma (quick glance at Kimmy)
Try to lock him in da slamma?
He destroys it with da hamma!

As he raps making goofy gang hand signs, he dances all around Ethan, striking a final pose.

Ethan was uncomfortable. He wasn’t one to boast. Being nonchalant could likewise come off as pretentious - as if hitting the bell was so easy it was beneath him to celebrate it. Eventually, he managed a shy and demure ‘thanks’ as he stared down at his shoes, waiting for Benbo to finish his little dance before looking up again.

"I'll take Elmo" he pointed at the silly red Muppet hanging above the guy at the booth, ignoring his loaded question altogether; he wasn’t Kimmy’s boyfriend. He didn’t do it to impress her. And yet, he found that he couldn’t bring himself to answer with a ‘No’.

"Do you want to ride the Ferris wheel?"

He too, wanted to move on, feeling rather hot and flustered after Kimmy grabbed his arm (he let Benbo hang on to his jacket for now, despite the chillness of the night’s air). They were right near the wheel as it was, and he didn’t feel like shlepping a giant plushie all around the Fayre. Sitting down for a bit would be a nice change of pace.

Abigail jumps up and down like a maniac, screaming. "Wow, what a strike!"

As they move toward the ferris wheel, she says, "Five of us, six with the Muppet. Who goes with who?"

Kimmy suddenly feels uncomfortable at the idea of everyone pairing off for a ride on the Ferris wheel "I'll babysit Elmo if you two want to ride together." she nods to Abigail and Ethan with forced indifference.

The group slowly makes its way to the Ferris Wheel, discussing who gets to ride with who.
Between the five of your and a 3 feet tall plushy red Elmo, you'd need three carts.

The old lady at the ticket boot frowns at you all a bit, still remembering your earlier discussions.

"An entirely safe ride in the Ferris Wheel, people. Get your tickets here. Only one dollar each..." she says loudly, over the happy tunes that come from the Ferris Wheel as it slowly goes round. The old lady frowns at Elmo "Guess that one won't be paying"

"Yea, alright..." with some reluctance, Ethan handed the Muppet to Kimmy "Don't run off with him while we're up there"

Being alone in a cart with a girl he hardly knew was exactly the type of situation he wanted to avoid this evening. Still, it could be worse; he would have been much more anxious with a girl he did know.

"Ready to go?"

Before he gets stuck in a cart with a girl, he addresses the Ferris wheel lady with an exaggerated British accent, paying for his and Zane's ticket.
"Right then, my fair maiden, allow me to introduce our jolly gathering: I am Sir Benbo, and I shall ride with this fine Zane gentleman. Ethan the mighty is with Abbie... and Kimmy, the damsel over there, is with her giant red fellow! He is Irish, you see..."

He will advance to the cart with Zane, ready for the ride.

Abigail had relaxed from her earlier reaction to Ethan and when they are placed together, she's both flushed and frazzled. "It wouldn't be brave to be afraid of a slow moving wheel would it? I bet from up top we can see all the way, maybe as far as the school! "

She hands over a five dollar bill. "Five tickets, please."

Kimmy had intended that by 'babysitting' Elmo she could remain at the bottom and not be sat stuck in a seat while the wheel slowly moved around it's loop. But Abbie's paid already and while it wasn't intended as such her comment about bravery pinged her just enough to give into the ride.

The five of your all step into the carts of the Ferris Wheel. It makes it rounds and rounds as you sit in the carts next to your cart-companion (wether that is a muppet or not). The wheel makes it's loops.

And Abbie is right. From the top you can see all over the Fayre. And not just the Fayre, but for a big deal over Prudence as well. With the stars out and the light's on, it's quite fairytale or fey-like even. Although whenever the wheel is down, Kimmy might hear some laughs and once even a friendly mocking cry from Samantha's voice "Hot Ferris Wheel date you've got, Kimmy!"

From time to time, the Ferris Wheel stops, so that people can exit or enter a cart below.

At one point Ethan and Abbie are at the top of the wheel, with Zane and Benbo in the cart in front of them and Kimmy and Elmo in the cart back.

The wheel stops for quite a long time, as below an eldery couple is taking their time to board a cart. You all do have an excellent view of Prudence. The many lights coming from the mall in the distance... A few carefully set spot lights, shining up the church... The high and middle school, lit up in boring lights to keep out kids trying to break in... The orange glow and thick smoke of fire coming out of the community centre...

An odd panic sets into Kimmy, something is happening and she's stuck in this tiny swaying cart. She points and waves and shouts "FIRE!" as loud as she can - while eying the structure of the wheel and trying to work out just how bad an idea it would be to try and climb down...

Ben points at the distant fire and shouts at Kimmy.
"You see that too? Either someone's having the biggest freakin' barbecue in the history of mankind, or the community centre is on fire!!
I mean, I know it's an eyesore, but still... it's OUR eyesore!"

He assesses how long it will take their cart to reach the ground level, alarmed by the situation.

Abigail wonders at first of its spot lights. She grabs Ethan's hand, squeezing hard. "Is that ... smoke? It's on fire!" The screams from her school chums echo her realization. Suddenly she feels panic, trapped high in the sky as disaster spreads below them. "Will the power go out?" she whispers.
