Negotiations

Sep 20, 2016 9:30 am
After spending the day gathering intel on the job, there's not much left to do but secure the contract. The Peanut Butter King manages the enclave from the office of the garage area. From that vantage point, he can oversee all repair work. The garage itself appears much as it did before the crash. You hear the squeal of air compressor powered impact wrenches and the whine of pneumatic lifts amidst the discussions among the mechanics. You can smell the motor oil in the air. The only exception is that the outside walls have been fortified with boards and scrap metal from junked cars.

As you enter the garage, you are greeted by a pair of PB King's personal guard, the Teddy Bears. Strong silent types in riot gear wielding bats with assault rifles slung over their shoulders. By all accounts, they prefer using the bats. They wordlessly direct you to the waiting area.

The room could easily be mistaken for a shrine to Elvis. Movie posters and statues of the performer and his movies adorn the walls. The speakers in the room are currently playing, Are You Lonesome Tonight. PB King is a busy man and you wait over an hour for an audience with him. Through the windows to his office, you can see PB King in his bright red, sequined jumpsuit speaking to several of his lieutenants: Duke of Earl, King of the Road, King Creole, King Nothing, and Killer Queen. The room has been sound proofed, so only indecipherable murmurs escape. Clearly, PB King is not happy about whatever information he is receiving and is reading them the riot act.

He snaps his fingers at one of them and they all file out the door. PB King follows them but stops at the door to his office. The group is silent as it passes you. PB King clicks his tongue and points at you, You the cats who come looking for the job? Cool man... Why don't y'all come right in. He makes an awkward karate pose as he points to his chairs with both hands.
OOC:
Alright, so I'm assuming Loan Shark takes the lead here. If so, go ahead and give me your leadership roll when you chime in. this represents the first impression you make and determines how many rounds of negotiations there will be. You all can be in the room but only one person can make the negotiation rolls in a given round. most of the scams occur outside of regular time and are run as small flashbacks that inform the negotiations. Everyone feel free to make your entrance or describe what you're doing if you aren't in the room.
Sep 20, 2016 11:03 am
OOC:
Well... shit. I'm going to spend a Will to turn that into a regular failure.
Shark was half way into the seat before he was suddenly changed his mind. We're both busy men King. I think I'll stand.

He didn't know what came over him but he felt nervous for some reason. He managed to hide further signs, but no amount of false confidence could erase that moment of indecision from the PB kings mind.
OOC:
I think loan shark would be alone in the room. Pretty sure I've got the best cha out of everyone so I don't see the point in using the tag out option.

Rolls

Leadership (R) - (1d10)

(7) = 7

Leadership (B) - (1d10+3)

(7) + 3 = 10

PB King smirks at the awkward entrance as he walks around his desk. Alright, Youngblood, to what do I owe the honor of the presence of such a busy man?
OOC:
So you avoid the crit via the Will expenditure. For reference, had you kept the crit, you would begin negotiations one rung lower than you otherwise would have. Since it's just a failure, you start at the normal spot, but you will not know how many negotiation rounds there will be. Also, despite the actions resolving simultaneously, the King decides who gets to speak first, and he chooses you. This is definitely a disadvantage, but not unrecoverable.

Rolls

Negotiation rounds - (1d10)

Run follows Loan Shark to the negotiations but stands silently, staring at the memorabilia. " This guy has some serious dough." He thinks to himself.

I think you both no why I'm here. My contacts tell my that a shipments gone missing, and your going to need some takers to recover it. He leaves a pregnant pause before continuing Id like to offer the services of my network of talent. We have skilled pickets who are used to gathering in the Loss. I doubt you'd find Talent better then what I can offer.
OOC:
I think persuasion is appropriate... Trying to push.

Rolls

Persuasion B - (1d10+3)

(3) + 3 = 6

Persuasion R - (1d10)

(4) = 4

OOC:
Agreed. Seems like persuasion to me. Until the red and black are adjacent on the tracker, a success means you move up a rung, but we'll resolve that and update after this...
PB King leans back in his chair and listens intently to Shark's pitch. Good news travels fast. As a matter of fact, I am looking for a bit of outside help. Of course, claiming talent is one thing and making good on those claims is somethin very different, man. Are you the kind of cat that talks a big game or can you and your boys deliver? As he questions your qualifications, an intensity washes over his face. Despite his relaxed demeanor, you can tell that he is analyzing every aspect of your response.
OOC:
Give me a deception roll

Shark extrudes just the right amount of presence, his face a perfect mask. I wouldn't over extend. I know my network is good for the job.

Alright, so concludes round one. You have moved up one and PB King remained at the same spot as he attempted to use Sensitivity against you and Shark had a successful poker face. Next up is our first scam: so you guys decide who wants to go and what they're doing. Generally it's assumed that whatever your character does happened prior to stepping in to the negotiation and thus can inform Shark's next round. Your action options are listed here under #4

OOC:
as I indicated before I think sabotaging the competition and finding the clients spot is probably the best use of our time. Not knowing how many scams we get does make it a tough choice though... If I only have 1 more negotiating round knowing his tough spot so I can jump up to hazard pay on a success is probably the best option, that way we won't be screwed by the final leadership roll. But if we have more rounds I think I'd feel safer knowing we won't be undercut...

Ham Bone will use Deception to gather intelligence on one of PBs spots.

After the meeting in the van, Ham Bone heads over to the pub. There is Greasy Pete at the bar, ignoring customers so he can chat up a girl who doesn't look remotely interested. Some of PBs crew have a table in the corner. Ham Bone sidles up Howdy Boys. Mind if I join you. Without waiting for an answer Ham Bone pulls up a chair and insinuates himself into the group. I need a drink, how about you all? Placing his fingers to his mouth, he blows a shrill whistle that causes Pete looks up annoyed. Drinks for the table! Y'all want a smoke, he says producing a pack of stale Marlboros.

OOC:
After a few drinks, Ham Bone asks about PB tryng to discover one of his spots.

Rolls

Black (Deception) - (1d10+2)

(7) + 2 = 9

Red - (1d10)

(8) = 8

Sep 21, 2016 3:32 am
OOC:
What is the deception here? Maybe more networking? Same skill level, so would be same result.
As a result of Ham-Bone's drinks, smokes, and funny stories from the bowling circuit before the Crash (but mostly the drinks), PB's boys loosen up a bit and start telling their own stories.

Naw, it's not that bad. PB King is actually a pretty cool, old dude. Just make sure you mind your P's and Q's. He's at the top of the food chain here. He made this place and guided us through the Crash. We all owe our lives to him. Treat him with the respect he deserves and you never have to see his bad side. R-E-S-P...uh, E...C? You know what I'm saying. The rest of the guys laugh at him and clink glasses.

Back in the negotiations room... Let me level with you King. I run a tight network, I know we can get your lost supplies. I've built it up over time like you built New Graceland. I'd like to think I've modelled my management style after yours; there's no better model after all. You see my people and I built up out relationships on respect. Respect for each other, respect for new Graceland and respect for you. So when I say we can go out there and bring back supplies you know we're not going to be skimming stuff of the top, we're going to give our all to go get it and bring it all back.
OOC:
Still persuading to push. I think I built the spot in too...

The intense scrutiny in his eyes fades and he smiles. Well, Thank you, thank you very much. Flattery will get you everywhere, Young blood. Alright, so hears the deal, like you said we lost a shipment to ol' Bacon's Scrap Sanctuary. Well, we've lost communications with it... And Bacon's for that matter. Don't really know where we stand. Right now my boys are doing some other things for me and I'd rather not pull them off. But it's a numbers game, if your price point is too high, I'll probably have to go with a different crew or pull my boys off their projects.Got a lot of mouths to feed in New Graceland
OOC:
Alright so with the successor Persuasion and incorporating his spot that gives you +2 Sway. Market always succeeds, so PB King gets a +1 for his Persuasion. Reread the rules, technically his sensitivity check from last round should have been uncontested and thus an automatic success, we'll keep playing as is....just writing this to note it for next time.

All that being said, you guys are now heads up. To move up you will need to get more Sway than PB King. He pretty much gets +1 automatically each round. Otherwise, you'll cancel out each other's movement.

His learning my spot should have been uncontested yes, but the deception would have denied him the effect so all in all I think we are square. Lets just say he's used one of them.

Claire waited by the van while the crew negotiated with Elvis impersonator. She sat on the curb next to Theodore watching the mechanics work like shit had never hit the fan. The dog began grazing on grass sprouting between the cracks in the sidewalk, she smiled slightly and pet him in his wide back. "Hey, buddy. They'll be back soon."

The threat of being undercut was real with the barbaric three roaming around. They seem like they'd do anything for dirt cheap. Claire wanted to expand her traits beyond just scavenging. She wanted to discuss setting the WM3 back, hopefully weeding them out.
OOC:
How many scams do we get this negotiations? I really want to sabotage the three lol
Sep 22, 2016 6:03 am
OOC:
We're doing well on the profit margin, let's get rid of the competition!
OOC:
The number of scams is determined by the number of rounds (there is a scam between each round). But because I failed the opening leadership check we don't know how many rounds there are.

Right, so basically we keep going until I tell you otherwise. I can tell you this much there is at least one more round of negotiations and thus we are ready for scam #2. Keep in mind the nonlinear time component here. This is something you most likely have done prior to shark stepping in there. That way he already has that information as a bargaining chip without you having to burst in there and inform him. Kind of like in Oceans 11 where they cut back and forth between the heist and preparations for the heist.
