[CLOSED] Eldritch Horror - Forged In The Dark

Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.

ClosedForged in the DarkPrivate1 / dayBeregon1
Overview:

This game will be a tale eldritch horror, where the players will investigate a mystery and try to stop something horrible happening before it's too late, while strange cults and eldritch abominations beyond human comprehension lurk in the shadows. Expect something closer to pulp Cthulhu, but don't think that your characters won't be in serious danger. Being reckless could easily end with them dying or losing their mind.

The game will be using a modified version of the Blades in the Dark system. You don't have to be familiar with it, I'll go over how it works near the start of the game and help you create your characters. The system's more narrative-based and easy to learn. The Blades In The Dark SRD is here and it's a great resource to learn the basics: https://bladesinthedark.com/basics/

Setting:

The game will be set in some mid-size city in the USA, probably in the Midwest. The time period will be either 1920s or 1980s. I'm still not sure. We'll likely decide the details of the game together based on what characters everyone's gonna end up playing. Feel free to mention which time period you'd prefer.

Playbooks

For those unfamiliar with them, Playbooks are similar to character Classes from games like DnD, but not as rigid. They are basically genre-appropriate character Templates with suggested Special Abilities and some plot hooks. You can branch out very early and focus on whatever you want, but the choice of your character's Playbook will influence the feel of your character.

The Playbooks are the following:

Scion - A reputable member of a wealthy and respected family, perhaps hiding a dark secret.

Dilettante - A worldly, well-traveled dilettante with an eye for detail. Been there, done that.

Crook - A slippery and more than a bit shady person who's at home in the society's seedy underbelly.

Gumshoe - A hardboiled detective, be it a hobbyist or a professional, able to solve any mystery.

Mystic - An esoteric mystic, plagued by strange dreams and visions. Might not be entirely sane.

Hunter - A perceptive survivalist, able to react quickly and hunt down anyone or anything.

Scholar - A knowledgeable scholar determined to uncover any hidden secrets, even those that human mind was not meant to comprehend.

Occultist - An enlightened occultist, knowledgeable of eldritch secrets that would break lesser minds.

Brute - A scrappy and brawny brute who's not afraid to get their hands dirty.

Veteran - A determined and experienced veteran of wars past who's not afraid to face true horror, for they already did so before.

Hello, I would be interested to learn a new system and like the 1/day posting listed. I am partial to 1980s right now, but would still love to be in a 1920s game like I am now.

I would be interested in Scion if we do 1980s. I was thinking a bit Shaggy from Scooby-Doo if he hadn’t adopted Scooby and joined the Scooby gang, meeting real horror instead.

For either time period, I would also be interested in Scholar then Mystic. The Scholar has failed out of college and is trying to prove they have what it takes or the Mystic, haunted by visions and sure that this next adventure will bring them closer to the Truth.

Is this a PbtA game?
Sounds fun.
I would favor 1980s over 1920s, but either is fine.

Playbooks:
1. Scion - rich and snobbish, escaping her family as much as dark family patrons
2. Occultist - worshipper of the dark, happy chipper and quite cruel
3. Mystic - don't have ideas yet, but I like the theme of the playbook as described

1. Dilettante
2. Gumshoe
3. Scholar

Either timeframe would be great. No preference there.

I have played quite a lot of Blades in the Dark with my regular (non-PbP) group, so I am familiar with the Forged in the Dark system. It's one of my absolute favourites.

I am really interested in this game.

Have not used the Blades in the Dark system before, but should be able to pick it up. I have played lots of CoC, including the Pulp version. Preference is for 1920's, but am fine with 1980's if that was selected, and would like to try any one of these Playbooks; Dilettante, Gumshoe, Scholar, Mystic, Veteran

Invites sent!

It's a Forged in the Dark game, that's what derivatives of Blades in the Dark are called. But yes, Blades in the Dark was heavily inspired by PbtA.

Anyway, it seems that the majority so far voiced a preference for the 1980s, so to cut the setting debate short, we'll go with that era.

Still have room for 1 more player (maybe 2), so if anyone still wants to join, you still have a chance!

I'd love to join, always been interested in trying out FitD/Blades. I'm fine with both eras, but lean toward the 80s.

1. Gumshoe
2. Crook
3. Occultist

Thanks!

If there is space count me in, or put me on the backlog. I lean towards Hunter and Veteran and I love the 80s. Cheers!

Alright, after thinking it over, I can handle one more player, so you got the invite, Alepous!
