Chapter 2: Local Heroes

While on the road to Lonjiku Kaijitsu's house - Li to Khel and Chigaru (assuming he is going to), when they were exiting the most dense part of the town and have some more privacy from bystanders and passers-by:
"Gentelmen: now I can share with you most interesting information that Master Brodert Quink told me while we were working in his lab!" - apparently Li liked dramatic entrances as much as dramatic beginnings of his conversations.

"Maser Brodert - after many researches that he did - have a theory about an ancient powerful kingdom once existing under our very feet. Under the town of Sandpoint! He also claims that the Old Light (the lighthouse) once was a war machine capable of spewing fire to a range of more than a mile. Do you imagine how helpful it would be to have such weapon harnessed to defend this city? I don't thing there would be a goblin attack like... ever again in this town. But the problem is that as Old Light probably was 700 feet tall back in the day, but now it is just a crumbling ruin and Mayor Deverin refused to allow Master Quink exploring it, on fear that I'd destabilize the ruins more. But have no problem with kids playing in that area. Politicians here are truly different than in Minkai... but not that much" - he reflected fast after recalling some bigger and smaller scandal's that he remembered from the times when he still was at his daymo court.

"Do you imagine exploring the actual Thassilonian ruin, Master Khel? What other inventions we could find there, that would better the lives of people here in Sandpoint and maybe in the whole world? Master Chigaru - does your monastery order could be so old to remember those times?" - Li continued trying to infect his companions with his enthusiasm.

"So I say: after dealing with Kaijistu we should turn our steps towards Mayor office and get us permission to visit those ruins. And when all our companions will be back in town, we should definitely check them... as one thing is bothering me from the moment you told me about the supposed necromancer simply appearing in the cemetery 'out of nowhere.... not being seen by anyone in the town... and now, that we know that this necromancer is most probably: Tsuto - who's return would be a BIG event in town... it doesn't add up... maybe he or his companions use some of those ruins to get into the town undetected?" - Li asked with big eyes, apparently being surprised by his sudden idea too.

"It's exactly how Master Khel Turbane - the well known globetrotter - as you seem to NOT have any idea bout such things - said: We, as representatives of our designated nations, called in as foreign experts in the field of city defense, acting on behalf of the authorities of this city... are tasked with discussing the defense or evacuation of key members of the local community." - Li tried to sound very formal and professional.

"You don't want to risk your Master even more in such difficult times, do you? We have important information to pass on to him. Only to his ears. Do you really want to explain this to him later? Later, when every day counts as we prepare for next attacks. Because if not us, then the Major himself will show up here, and then the jokes will be over. Understood?!?" - Li ended almost shouting in the way he saw his former daymo have done many times. With the whole strength of his guts.
OOC:
I think mechanically it will be supporting Khel attempt. So +1 or +2 with a rise? Maybe Investigator/Academics will help here to sound even more "formal and professional"?

Saldrina chooses a small pony as her mount if one is available. In response to Lord Foxglove's question, she simply shrugs. "Just luck, I guess. I just happened to be here visiting the festival."

Grim always felt odd riding these beasts. He was too big for a pony but not quite big enough for a horse and mule, making the whole thing uncomfortable. Donkeys usually fit him best, but were stubborn bastards and difficult to control at times.

He slowly made his way on top the horse, eventually finding a comfortable, yet stable, position.

"Found my way here eventually after taking odd jobs along the coast."

Changing subjects, he looks over at his riding companions, "Outside of a good meal, perhaps a wager on who will fell the boar first?"

Khel stood dead in his track, "Did you say Thassilonian ruins! Master Li, this is the single most thing that has driven me to come all this way. Back in Qadira, I researched some ancient texts that mentioned rudimentary information about Thassilonia; a place ruled by powerful civilisation and their mastery over magic. Some cataclysm befell them and there is no sign of the past civilisation's remains, only ruins. Could this tower mentioned by Master Quink mean that it was a Thassilonian structure empowered by magic? This must be the blessings of Dawnflower herself that I stumbled upon my destination when I was almost on the verge of giving up. I must explore this ruin that you mention. With your and Master Quink's help and the competent capabilities of others, I may discover something new and unravel the mystery of Thassilion magic. Now that you mention it, I think it is possible that our elusive necromancer may have gotten access to the ruins underneath Sandpoint, which is alarming itself. With the evidence from Father Zantus and Master Quink, I am sure we can convince Mayor Deverin to give us the permission to explore the ruins. If not for the knowledge then at least for the security of the town."

Grimwulf says:

"Outside of a good meal, perhaps a wager on who will fell the boar first?"
Wess was suddenly haunted by the taste of the hagfish challenge. He shakes the memory from his mind and then replies; "Were you thinking first to hurt the boar, or whoever finishes them off will be the victor? I'd hate for us to track the beast and wear it down, just for ol Foxglove to swoop in and claim the kill. "

The Hunt

Aldern Foxglove
"Oh, I am more than willing to step back and give you room to do your magic," Aldern says, giving Wess a smile. "It would be an honor to watch you do your magic."

You ride further into the forest and starts looking for tracks. Aldern keeps digging and asking questions to find out more about you. And by the end he seems to become quite taken by Saldrina.
OOC:
I will handle the hunt as a nonlethal quick encounters. That means each of you need to roll. You each get to make a skill check/or attack roll to deal with the boar. You cannot deal with a boar unless someone has been able to track it down using Notice with -2 modifier or Survival.
The Kaijitsu Residence

The manservant shakes his head. "Nothing to be done about it. He is still ill and has yet to get up this morning," the manservant says. "I implore you to come back later in the day. I will inform the master of your visit once he is in shape."
Sep 26, 2024 1:01 pm
Khel studied the manservant and asked, "What happened to Lord Kaijitsu? I didn't know that he was ill?"
OOC:
So, if I want to check whether the manservant is lying or not, it would be a notice check right?

Rolls

Notice⭐ - (1d6, 1d6, RA)

1d6 : (1) = 1

1d6 : (3) = 3

Sep 26, 2024 1:27 pm
OOC:
Yes, that would be Notice. You do know he was supposed to hold a speech on the Swallowtail Festival, but didn't show up claiming sickness.
Sep 26, 2024 1:41 pm
"The killing blow makes the most sense." lightly bonking his head to mimic the event.

The halfing then focuses on their surroundings, looking at the ground and foliage for tracks, scat, broken bark, etc.

Rolls

Survival - (1d4, 1d6, RA)

1d4 : (2) = 2

1d6 : (5) = 5

Sep 26, 2024 1:50 pm
"Wait?!? Lord Kaijitsu is ill? I forgot about that completely... well that... sadly, may be not a coincidence." - Li commented out loud more to himself then anyone else. Then he turned to manservant and said with passion, changing his tone completely to somehow caring and nice:

"How long it was since your Master have fallen ill? We have the right to suspect that this may not be an ordinary disease. Someone who is consideredenemy to your master has been recently in the town. Your master could be poisoned. Who is taking care of him? Who is his doctor? We must speak with your master immediately and investigate if anyone had a chance to poison him."

Then Li looks at the servant carefully.
Sep 26, 2024 3:10 pm
Wess dismounts and then secures his horse. He makes a note of where everyone is the looks and listens for anything that would signify their prey is near.
OOC:
if I'm allowed to use Martial Flexibility for this encounter, I'll use Formation Fighter

Rolls

Notice⭐ - (1d4, 1d6, RA)

1d4 : (1) = 1

1d6 : (3) = 3

Sep 26, 2024 6:13 pm
Saldrina notices Foxglove's attention but says nothing, not wanting to embarrass the man.
OOC:
Since it seems that Grimwulf has successfully tracked our prey, Saldrina will attempt to use earth manipulation to bean the boar with a small stone.

Rolls

Spellcasting - (1d10, 1d6, RA)

1d10 : (2) = 2

1d6 : (63) = 9

Damage - (2d4, RA)

(23) = 5

Kaijitsu Mansion

"Just a bit tired, I assure you he has his own physician. I am sure he will be fine in a few short days. Unless you can come with concrete evidence I am not going to let you barge in on Master Kaijistsu," the manservant says. Khel cannot tell any sign of lying from the servant.

The hunt

You are able to corner a big boar and put it to the hunt. Aldern follows excitedly after you, letting you show your expertise.
OOC:
Let's make it a competition. You can each make an attack roll of some sort (Spellacasting, Shooting or Fighting), and whoever gets the highest result gain the killing blow.
Sep 27, 2024 6:44 pm
"Well spotted Grimwulf! Now let's see if hammer, blade or magic ends this beast!" Wess says, as he rushes towards the boar, letting out a battle cry.

Rolls

Dawn's Light (greataxe) - ATTACK (+Gang Up bonus if it applies) - (1d10+1, 1d6+1, RA)

1d10+1 : (2) + 1 = 3

1d6+1 : (61) + 1 = 8

Dawn's Light (greataxe) - DAMAGE - (d10+d10, RA)

(7) + (9) = 16

Sep 27, 2024 7:56 pm
Grim lets out his pent up frustration over what happened in the Bolivar basement out on the boar's head.
OOC:
adding +2 if gang-up bonus and wess's formation fighter are in effect

Rolls

Fighting (Maul) - (1d10+2, 1d6+2, RA)

1d10+2 : (8) + 2 = 10

1d6+2 : (663) + 2 = 17

Damage (Maul) (assuming with raise) - (1d8+1d10+1d6, RA)

(4) + (8) + (3) = 15

Sep 28, 2024 3:21 pm
OOC:
Did you want to use Saldrina's roll from earlier, or should she roll again?
Sep 30, 2024 5:08 pm
Li finally couldn't hold back anymore and burst out with these words - much less polite than usual, clearly grasping for the last resort:

"Good man! This is about his deceased wife's son: Tsuto! Your master's life may be in serious danger. Does this bother you at all?!? Or are you perhaps pleased with this turn of events?" - he looked at the servant carefully. Then he looked at the previously silent huge half-orc for some help, who until now had seemed silent.
OOC:
@nezzeraj are you with us? :)
Li was so incensed by the servant's resistance and lack of understanding that he seriously began to consider switching to threats.
Oct 1, 2024 1:29 am
OOC:
Yep still here! Chigaru is staying in Sandpoint to patrol the town while everyone went off to boar hunt or find Lonjiku. I've been a little busy irl so I don't mind waiting while everyone finishes up their side adventures.
