Chapter 2: Local Heroes

The group says their farewells to Madame Mvashti and make the journey through the streets to the garrison as well.

There they find Li, Grimwulf and Chigaru discussing using the goblin as a guide.

"Good, you are all here," the sheriff says as you arrive. He ask you all to come with him to his office, which as it turns out wasn't built to hold 6 people. You have to cramp together to fit.

"I know you want to take the fight to the goblins," he says. "At least you were discussing it. But I beg you to wait until we have more information."

"The goblin were talking about generals and fighting force," he pinches the bridge of his nose. "If this is true I need more men. I intend to go to Magnimar to scure more soldiers. At least for a few weeks. I want you to maintain a public presence in town while I am gone. Keep a watch on the place. You proved with the skeletons that you know how to deal with trouble."

"I also want to send out a hunter to find Shalelu," he continues. "Hopefully he can get her a message. She may have information on the bugbear the goblin spoke of."

"I might not be the best person to ask," the sheriff replies to Li. "I was new in town when the old sheriff was killed five or so years back."

"Can't think of..." the sheriff says, but pauses for a moment until inspiration strikes. "There was Ameiko's half brother. He left town after the fire. Though I haven't heard anything about him being back."

"Then there was Albano Marcellianus. As I remember it, he wanted to be an actor, but Cyrdak called him a hack. He attacked the theater director with a knife. He was sent to Magnimar to be sentenced. Think he got some jail time, though I can't recall the details."

The sheriff clears his throat. "Actually, I've heard it was the other way around. Quite the scandal back in the day," he says. "When Lonjiku's wife passed away, Ameiko's brother had no reason to stay. Rumors back then was Lonjiku cut him off and he had to fend for himself."

"I would hear with Ameiko," he says. "She is far more reasonable than her father."

"Frighfully bad I'm afraid," the sheriff says with a heavy sigh. "That's one of the reason I want more soldiers from Magnimar. The walls mostly held, though morale is low should another attack occure."

"That's why I want you here and to be visible," he continues. "You have a reputation as the heroes of Sandpoint and just your presence makes people feel safer and strengthens the peoples' morale."

"We have swords and leather armor," Belor nods. "Most families have a sword as well, though how well they can use it..." He shakes his head and sighs.

"Then there is the outlying farms, I am almost more afraid of them," he says. "Though most of the farmers can handle a bow. They are more used to a hungry wolf than goblins. Though goblins sometimes try to sneak up on the farms and steal chickens. Think it is a rite of passage or they really like eggs. Mostly they are scared off by dogs."
