Hmm.

All PC's are level 5
Starting Equipment plus 700gp to spend
All official sourcebooks possible
Feats are good.

I made it so all players have two character sheets. One will be for a generic "Mech" sheet I will give information to you for later in the story. You don't have to use it but it could be useful for you.

All characters will start as an established "Adventuring Party"


That is where it starts.
Well, we are looking at a Halfling. Are there any of the below for a Halfling that I should ignore in deciding?

Oh. GM. What are you using for Stat generation and HP generation. Both are coming to head soon.

Your party is charged with recovering the Automidons, three towering constructs which are piloted from within.

What klnd of Stat/skill are we talking about to pilot them? Kinda making this character directed that way. Also any stat/skill for other function for them would be helpful.

Okay. I'm going with the wildlife halfling that is slightly druidish.

Skip over background and pop right into Rogue. Being 5th level we have Archetype being the most important thing to consider. I'm between the Arcane Triskster or the Scout? Any thoughts there?

I like the spell power of the trickster but not keen on the ledger main mage hand for this character. So, I will go with the scout which matchers the characters race better. Hunter sounds like the appropriate background.

Picking up another language besides Common & Halfling. Needs to be more local and not exotic. What are the options there?

Pretty much all phb options work well. My go to "can't decide" language is always Sylvan

Sylvan is a bit exotic. I think that I will go for the odd Gnomish.

Marceen is very much ready to be placed somewhere in your world. Kinda hard to do any history. She is a female Halfling (Lotusden). Raised in the wilds and is a survivalist huntress. Later in life she has become a scouting rogue.

Despite her diminutive size, she is faster than most humans. Hunt, skin, eat is her game. And she does well with pelts and such too. Wherever she is now, she no doubt has left her mark.

May we spend this 700 gp on magic items. That being healing potions as well? If so, do you have an address to see the selection and pricing.

Everyone wants a magical gizmo. If nothing more than to say they have one.

LOL. Yeah. It is where stopped before my slight leave of absence. But that gear is starting gear. She has 700 gp to spend which why the question of magic items was. Any suggestions?

Potions are always good, things for creative answers I would describe myself as a "yes and/but" type DM for the most part

I really can't imagine what is currently available and the dear costs of such, so she has hoarded/pocketed that 700 gp and is in her original gear which is rather sufficient for her. Unspent coin is probably in easy to hide and carry gems.

She is rather a loner as she has wonder lusted away from her home ground and isn't likely to even see another from her lands. Even though her druidical abilities don't allow her to heal she is tough enough to survive. Although lacking darkvision does make her more vulnerable in the night. Some ideals for magic. Winks.
