Ok, proficiencies on this game are just for weapons. You picked a 2 handed staff. Heavy weapons, which is how I would interpret that, deal extra damage but have reduced attack rate.
Your trade give you knowledge and some skills. Add a healer you would be knowledgeable about medicine, herbal lore,etc. If your want navigation skills I am ok with a trade of wandering/nomadic physician or some such. You would have a broader range of skills but less depth.
If you want more skills then you would take those as traits. Alchemist, survivalist, tracking, healer(magic healing) etc
