Mountain Fortress by Nathan Elmer
Head north toward the Shroud, a land of perpetual frost and secrets buried under snow. Brave treacherous weather and savage monsters waiting to pick off the weak and the unwary. Find common ground or foster feuds with the various denizens who call this bleak place home. Here you will weave your own grand tale - or join the bones of countless others who came up short against the dangers of the Shroud.

Game
I am looking to start a 13th Age campaign in a homebrew setting that borrows heavily from Icewind Dale and other similarly wintry settings. Players can expect to explore fantastic vistas, battle hordes of monsters and interact with six custom Icons - Old Hob, The White Coven, The Uncrowned King, Father of Orphans, The Assembly and Mossbeard.

As usual in the 13th Age system, player input from backgrounds and One Unique Things will also be incorporated into the worldbuilding.

Character Options
For this setting, players can choose between the following races: humans, dwarves, wood elves, high elves or orcs (orcs get the racial features of half-orcs). All first-party class options on the SRD are valid, but no multiclassing please.

Content Warning
The standard tropes that come with a d20 fantasy adventure apply here, so violence and death are very much on the table. Darker topics such as human sacrifice may also come up, but I will create a Session 0 before the game starts so we can decide if any specific topics should be fade-to-black or completely avoided.

This game is explicitly queer-friendly.

Posting Rate
I would like everyone to post once every other day, or about three times a week. No worries if you can’t post for whatever reason, but giving a heads-up is always appreciated.

Applying
I’m looking for 4-5 players for this game. If you’re interested, just leave a post below! Both experienced players and those new to the system are welcome to apply.

Players won’t be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis, so I will leave the thread open for around a week before selecting players.

I have always wanted to try out 13th Age after reading so much praise about it. I am also eying the second edition and will probably get it once it's out. But, like most rpgs, I have never played it and I am totally unfamiliar with the rules. I have heard that it's base mechanics is like D&D but it is very different, mostly akin to D&D 4th rather than 3.5 or 5. So, I would love to join, if you can accept a newbie like me.

Absolutely! This is my first time GMing the system so you'll be in good company.

13th Age is a great system. 9 times out of 10 I would pick 13thAge over D&D5e if I had the choice.
Unfortunately I have gone over my limit of games, so I will not apply.

I am interested! I am running a 13th age game myself right now, and it will be cool to play and see how another GM handles battles to see if I can learn how to handle mine better.

I would probably play a sorcerer, or a cleric if someone else really wants to play a wizard or sorcerer

I would also be interested

I was thinking of playing as a wizard but I am open to other options as well.

This definitely looks interesting. I definitely enjoy trying some new systems and would be up for giving this a spin. Don't have a solid concept yet, wood elf sorc seemed like a fun idea since they appear to be able to use bows. I'm always game for a solid dwarf smashing things though.

I love 13th Age, and the setting sounds flavorful. I'd be really happy to join! Although, I will probably be absent around the start of September for a week or two, so a fair warning. But if it's alright, I'm up for some wandering! :3
(Also, I appreciate that you credited the art.)

I've never played 13th Age before, but I'll give it a shot, Maybe either a human or elf ranger.

Or maybe a Commander. Will have a think.

I would be interested! I have not directly played 13th Age but I've been interested in the system from seeing comparisons to other systems. I generally lean towards front line characters.

Woo, didn't expect applications to come in so quickly! Thank you everyone who expressed interest.

I think we have enough players, and I've finished setting up the forums, so I'll end the application period early.

@Stalker05, @Ironmonger42, @The_Librarian, @DrifterDwarf and @FlyingSucculent, I have sent you invitations for the game. Please head over to Session 0!

@spinningdice and @Alphabeta, I will keep you on the shortlist if any spot opens up in the future.
