Hi there, I'm new here and was going to post on Discord but sounds like this is the better place. I was curious if there are any other folks who were kids in the 1980s and would want to do a game celebrating that, drawing upon a lot of the nostalgia from that era and also more modern interpretations like Stranger Things. We could use the Tales from the Loop ruleset if folks wanted. Thanks!

I don't know that ruleset, but I would love to play in a settimg like that

I mean, as a child of '82, I don't remember a lot of the 80s, but I'm still interested, I'm familiar with Tales from the Loop as we're currently playing on a tabletop game.

There is also this game system; Kids on Bikes

I have played in a few on GP and can recommend it. Keep in mind the genre is very oriented towards kids in the USA, so think shows/films like Stranger Things, Close Encounters, Super 8, Goonies.

I'd be in for something like that, sure, depending on the system KoB does seem like a really good one; Palladium or TMNT or Mutants and Masterminds or PS238 might also be good fits, depending on what kind of tone you wanted to take.

I don't know anything about Tales from the Loop as a system, but it was a pretty boring TV show.

I love Tales from the Loop. I don't think I currently have the capacity to join this (And I was born in the 90s, so it's not like I meet the criteria for this anyway), but I've played and run a ton of Tales from the Loop and Things from the Flood on here. Great setting and decent system.

Well, the show definitely didn't manage to accurately portray the setting. I found the show entertaining for the most part, but it was definitely nothing memorable.

I loved playing in KCC's fantastic TOTL game, and I also watched the show, but only the first three episodes. Then I lost interest.

Tales from the Loop is a fairly simple dicepool system.

Interestingly enough I loved the show, it was slow and melancholy but it gripped me.

Wow, already a lot of comments and interest... amazing! I would clarify here that Tales From the Loop is mostly appealing to me for a compatible rule set. I have not seen the show and would not plan of using an existing IP universe for the setting (though I may borrow / convert some adventures as long as no one has already experienced them elsewhere). Speaking of setting, I am strongly leaning toward using the USA for the setting and forgot to mention that. It is what I am most familiar with and think I would do the best job. Some kind of small-medium sized town like you see portrayed in many of the type of media that has inspired the genre.

I did like the show, except for the first episode (Final episode made me cry, but I'm easy to get emotionally manipulated into crying by TV shows). I just think it didn't have the budget to really portray the world well.

I'll throw in for this one. Never played TftL's system but I'm not averse to learning it or any other system you want to choose.

I would be interested. I was born in the early 70s, so I went through my tween/teenage years in the 80s. It would be fun to revisit those days.

Yes, Tales from the Loop is based on the Free League Year Zero rule set so if you've played Mutant Year Zero, Alien, Vaeseen, The Walking Dead, or any of their other games then it should be pretty familiar. The rules are much less focused on combat encounters (no initiative) and I would want to lean more heavily into role play and exploring stories of the characters. I think I'm more of an improv GM that encourages player-driven narratives so would look for players who are excited by that and not expecting an "on-rails" storyline.

I do have some experience with other Free League games and would be appreciative of @spinningdice or anyone else more familiar with the specific TFTL rules to assist me in any way that is helpful.

Oh. I once played mutant year zero. Been a while though. Either way, I'd be more than willing to learn as I love the genre.

Great! Thank you all for your interest! Since I am new to the Gamers Plane platform I want to make sure I am up to speed before I set up the game. But I will post again once the game is up!
