3. Fungal Cave

Korena, perched near the doorway, loosed an arrow with a sharp twang. The missile struck one of the creatures in the shoulder, causing it to stagger back a step. The impact dislodged a burst of spores, but the abomination barely reacted, twisting its head unnaturally as if searching for its assailant. Korena didn’t wait to see its response—she darted back into the barracks with a soft curse, nocking another arrow as she went.
The twisted figures shambled closer, their unnatural movements punctuated by the wet squelch of fungal growth shifting over decayed flesh. Their hollow, glowing eyes fixed on Faramos and Brenda. A guttural hiss escaped from one of the creatures as it dragged its clawed hand along the stone wall, leaving behind a trail of dark purplish spores.
OOC:
Each one of them are now at ARM’S LENGTH from Faramos and Brenda. They are NEAR Nindia.
Faramos says:
"We would be better fighting those abominations in the barracks, bigger room, we can surround them. We have advantage of numbers. No this narrow corridor."
Graknok snorted, his tusks flashing as he gestured sharply at Thragg. "You heard the dwarf! Move! Clear the bunks, give them room."

Thragg grumbled but obeyed, shoving bunks aside with heavy, careless motions, the wood hitting the stone floor. Then, they retreated further into the chamber, in a deliberate but unhurried stance, as though they had no concern about the encroaching abominations. When there was plenty of room for you in the barracks, Graknok leaned against the opposite wall, arms crossed, his green eyes studying the creatures.

"They won’t touch us or our things," he said, his voice calm and almost amused. "But you’d better keep them away from you, dwarf."

Brenda seized the opening created by their approach. With a determined shout, she brought her longsword down in a sweeping arc. The sword bit deeply into the already damaged abomination, severing a grotesque fungal limb and cleaving into its decaying torso.

Blackened ichor and spores spilled from the wound, splattering onto the stone floor and filling the air with a pungent, choking smell of rot and decay. The glow in its hollow eyes flickered like a dying flame, but it still stood, swaying unsteadily, its clawed hand twitching erratically as though grasping for something unseen.

OOC:
rules/combat tactics question here.
1. I assume Nindia get into ARM’S LENGTH to any enemy because of how narrow the corridor is.
2. Would it take two actions to put away the scimitar and then draw a throwing axe?
3. Retreating into barracks is not an option this round because
A. Brenda and Faramos would need to do two actions: Retreat + Move because barracks at is a different zone
B. Brenda spent Slow action already (and Korena spent both FA, SA and we don't want to leave her)

P.S. If we approach this as strategic war game I believe we should have taken a position where Nindia and Brenda blocking the way and Faramos is right behind and take advantage of his Near range weapon to attack over out shoulders, but it doesn't sound cool since I can't imagine dwarf being taller than humans.

Nov 30, 2024 11:22 am
OOC:

1. Yes
2. Yes. You could drop your weapon for free, but to put it away / to sheath it, you need a fast action
3. A. Correct.
B. Correct for Brenda but Korena is already inside the barracks, actually. She can ready her bow for free, because of a talent, so she did a Shoot + Move. The way it will work is if you leave Faramos and Brenda outside for this round, alone, and then they retreat in the next one. Your call.

About the PS, yeah, Faramos fighting from behind you with a staff would be very unrealistic because of his height.
Dec 2, 2024 7:07 pm
crap! Nindia suddenly realize she can do nothing with the weapons ans carefully switch Scimitar to the axe.
OOC:
sheath and draw two FA
Dec 3, 2024 10:53 pm
Faramos with a growl coming from deep within his gut, pushed out by a diaphragm that might as well belong to a bear slashes with his trusty staff already damaged abomination... but misses unfortunately.
"Oh... crap... Now Brenda! Get in and prepare defensive position for me to withdraw. I'm going in, just after you!" - Faramos more ordered then asked, somehow knowing that he will feel better and more focused on the fight knowing that his "human sister" is in better position then being pressed against the wall with those two monsters... what was still possible in this corridor.

Stepping back few small steps to get better defensive positions, he notice "with the corner of the eye" that Nindia is not entering the bigger room:
"You are preparing a frontal attack?!? Let's crash them from every side in the room!" - he barked being heigh on adrenaline already and not understanding Nindia intentions.
OOC:

Korena
Korena darted back toward the barracks, her bow held tightly in one hand while the other retrieved another arrow from her quiver. The flickering torchlight of the orc barracks painted shadows across her determined face as she crossed the threshold and spun on her heel, quickly nocking the arrow to her bowstring.

She positioned herself further inside, using the frame of the doorway as cover. The tension in the bowstring increased as she pulled it taut, her sharp eyes focused on the corridor beyond. From her vantage point, she could see Brenda and Faramos standing against the advancing creatures, their weapons flashing as they fended off clawed strikes and fungal growths that lashed out in blind aggression.

Korena exhaled slowly, keeping her breathing steady. "Fall back when you’re ready! I’ve got your backs!" she called, her voice calm but edged with urgency. She tightened her grip on the bowstring, her muscles coiled like a spring. Soon, she would loose her arrow—aiming for the nearest creature that dared to step into the barracks.

Purple Spore Servant
The first creature lurched forward with a grotesque, jerking motion, its hollow, glowing eyes locking onto Faramos. Then, its jaw unhinged unnaturally wide, revealing a dark, cavernous maw streaked with fungal growth. A sickening, wet gurgle issued from deep within its throat as it exhaled a dense cloud of shimmering purple spores.

The cloud billowed outward, spreading rapidly and enveloping Faramos in an oppressive haze. It smelled faintly sweet, cloying, and thick enough to cling to the air like a suffocating blanket. Faramos instinctively raised his hand to shield his face, but the spores clung to his exposed skin, their strange, almost electric sensation prickling like the lightest of touches.

His eyes began to blur, and an unnatural heaviness crept into his limbs, as though an unseen weight was pressing down on him. A sluggish, insistent tug at the edges of his consciousness urged him to close his eyes, to give in to the overwhelming wave of drowsiness.
OOC:
The attack works as a paralyzing poison with Potency 6. Faramos, please roll for ENDURANCE. You need 2 successes. (See my dice roll below)

If you fail, you take one point of damage to Agility each round until you are Broken. If you drink an antidote in time, the effect of the poison is halted. If you suceeed, you just take one point of damage to Agility and that's it.
The second creature lunged at Brenda with unnatural speed, its movements jerky but ferociously purposeful. Its fungus-riddled jaws snapped open, revealing teeth coated in blackened rot, aiming to clamp down on her shoulder. Brenda, quick on her feet and battle-hardened, raised her shield just in time.

With a grunt, Brenda pushed back, forcing the abomination to stumble a step, its malformed body twitching with frustration. The shield bore a smear of dark ichor from the creature's gaping maw, but Brenda remained steadfast, her resolve unshaken. "Not this time," she muttered through gritted teeth, bracing for her next move.

Faramos says:
"Oh... crap... Now Brenda! Get in and prepare defensive position for me to withdraw. I'm going in, just after you!"
Brenda took a step back, her shield raised defensively as she began to retreat toward the barracks. "Okay!" she called back.

The second creature seized the opportunity, lunging with an outstretched arm tipped with jagged, fungal claws. Its attack came faster than Brenda anticipated; her shield was too high to block, and the claws raked across her midsection in a wide arc.

The claws tore through the fabric of her tunic, leaving three shallow but painful gashes across her belly. Brenda hissed in pain, her free hand instinctively pressing against the wound. Blood seeped through her fingers, warm and sticky, but she clenched her jaw and kept moving.

As she stumbled into the barracks’ doorway, Graknok’s voice rumbled, "Keep moving, warrior!" Brenda nodded grimly, adjusting her stance and raising her shield again. Despite the burning sensation in her abdomen, she stood ready, stepping aside to allow her companions room to follow her in. "It’s just a scratch," she growled.

Rolling endurance to see how Faramos is holding....
Pushing... Ouch!!!! No point in pushing any more...
Even with enormous effort to overcome the disgusting spores... thing to caught them of his lungs, Faramos felt severely weakened by the cloud of spores...
"No! Not this way... but why it's so warm and cosy in here... ? I must go... Keep going..." - he tried to keep in his mind, while making last resort efforts to withdraw into barracks and not end with head torn away from his body by some awful claws...
OOC:
Also Retreat and Move somewhere relatively near Brenda.
Uff... I thought it could be the end of Faramos... but fortunately his plan may still work! :)
Breathing very heavily Faramos lunges into the barracks, trips over some orcish mug... but rolls and stands up... weakened, but still standing... for now.
OOC:
I assumed that -1 to Agi will be on next turn of Faramos, but even if it was in this turn: he managed to flee that "walking shit that dared to vomit on him"... ;) End of post.

The first creature, lurched forward, following Faramos inside, into the barracks.
OOC:
The first one is now in ARMS RANGE from Faramos, NEAR Brenda and Nindia and in SHORT range from Korena.
The second creature followed closely behind, shambling with uneven, jerking movements. Its glowing gaze locked onto Nindia, trailing her every step as she retreated. It clawed at the ground as it moved, tearing through the damp earth with a sound like tearing fabric. The twisted fungal growths covering its form seemed to stretch and quiver, eager for more sustenance. It hesitated at the doorway for a moment, as though sensing the gathering of the living within, before surging inside, drawn by Nindia’s retreating figure.

Interesting choice GM! :)
Farams looks at Graknok with clouded eyes as the poisonous spores apparently started to make their work on him. His mind being in relatively good condition, as it is his body that feels sluggish and not very responsive. He answers the orc's boss slightly slurred, as if his tongue was also starting to feel numb:
"The trust is earned. Not given. Preferably standing together - arm to arm - against a common threat. So far... although a little blurred right now... I've only seen you and your people standing aside. And to think... I always had orcs as fearless warriors... HeHE..." at this point Faramos made a very short laugh, more reassembling drunk person's hick up, than a real mockery, as apparently the poison have started to paralyze his tongue in his mouth still full of microscopic, by poisonous spores - "...how wrong I was!"

However, to the massive orc's surprise, Faramos took a few unsteady steps towards him and grabbed the bottle of green liquid, with the grace of a drunken bear dropping a hive to the ground. Then he uncorked it and emptied it to the very bottom, with one long gulp. Taking a few more uncertain steps to keep his balance, he explained, in a slightly clearer voice than before:
"But I trust... your CUNNING... one don't kill a goat while it's still pulling a cart out of the mine..." - Faramos finished in a way that - he truly believed at this moment - a real dwarf would!
OOC:
So indeed: 2 FA to empty the bottle with a style:) I'm assuming - as this is new turn - Faramos gets 1 damage to Agi, and only after drinking the potion there won't be this effect next turn. If... that was indeed an antidote :)

He also was quite honest with his opinion about orcs being cowards... as I imagined his current state as drunk-like. So it wouldn't be a "manipulation" per se... So I don't know if we should roll for it somehow? As player I would expect such statements to enrage proud orc's, but it wasn't a conscious act on Faramos side... :) More like him assessing the situation outloud... :) So maybe Wits... ? ;D

Korena loosed an arrow from her bow, the string twanging sharply in the enclosed space of the barracks. Blackened spores hissed as they met the ground, their unnatural life extinguished.
