THE STATION

The Vend-O-Bot 3000's jingle plays. It's annoyingly catchy, so I can't repeat it here. It has Raspberry Twist in stock, the same type of bar that Adam was working on when he lost his mind. In the corner of it's window, it also proudly proclaims in bright block letters:

Your Marshall ID will let you open the machine and take whatever you want.

apologies for the delay, tis the season

OOC:
Yep, I get that. I'm not going to be pushing for updates until after the first of the year. What everyone can do until then is fine.

Bob quickly catches up with the music, humming the annoying jingle endlessly. He casually inspects the bar wrapping for anything particularly unusual, but doesn't actually take any for now. "Do you think the bars are distributed randomly, or this one would be the first one to get stocked? Maybe we can try to get their distribution routes? We need to locate those pieces of brain, I guess."
OOC:
Not sure if there is anything noticeable for now. He will notice the letters as he closes the door.

A quick call to the Marshall's office will get you the information that, yes, distribution is random. The bars are restocked via automation and restocking happens twice a day, more than enough time for the brain slices to have been fully distributed. The recall is mostly being ignored because no one can tell the difference between slightly decayed brain pieces and the normal taste of the bars.
OOC:
@CESN - Give me... probably a Fieldwork check with one Advantage (other than the ones you'd get otherwise) to see if you can spot any differences in the bars with that casual look.

"I guess these miners are not the most epicurian types in the galaxy, if they think decayed brain tastes like..." he grabs one of the bars to check the flavour again "Raspberry"
OOC:
I guess the approach will be quickly, so i might not do it carefully or Insightfully. Not sure if Fieldcraft (wilderness survival) counts as advantage, but I guess they eat a lot of cereal bars in the wild xD if not, the 7 goes and the result is 11

The skill list does have a bit of a gap.
You grab all of the bars in the machine so that you can go through them, but in doing so, you also manage to twist one of the screws that separates the bars into individual servings. That's going to cost you. And in fact, the corner of your Marshall's card flashes red. That means there's an expense deduction on your account. Better not do that too often, or you'll be doing this job for free.

You examine each bar in turn, and one of them is clearly contaminated. You have seven others, though, so you sample one of them. It is red, so there are probably raspberries in there, but you couldn't prove it by the taste. Maybe brains taste more like raspberry than the bars do.

You can read that brain fragment into Adam's android brain by visiting the MedCenter. It'll take an hour per piece if you do them one at a time, but if you do several at a time, each additional one is only 30 minutes.

@CESN,@Jomsviking Our third is inactive on the site for about a month. I don't know if that's due to the holidays, or if something else happened. Either way, we can move ahead and let them catch up if/when they return.

Bob mumbles a curse a the Marshall's card flashes red "Can't even do my job in peace" he opens one of the bars and munches it.

"Hey! I think I found one! Bob waves a bar for Seth to see. "I'm sure this one has some brains on it. Any luck on your side?"

As it turns to talk to his companion he notices a flashy light inside the vending machine...

That's right, there's a camera in there. They've done their best to hide it in behind the spring mechanics, but its there alright. Can you find anything on it?
OOC:
Also, since we're down to two, You can each train three more skills. Discuss ahead of time if you want to o you don't duplicate them if you want.

If Seth doubles down on Security he will have nearly perfect combat skills, or he could develop a personality and leave the brain stuff for Bob. What do you think @CESN

Sound good to me, I'll be the support. I can train MECHANICAL REPAIR to fix Seth, NEGOTIATION from background and maybe SMALL UNIT TACTICS

"Hey Seth! Come here!" Bob points at the little notice on the machine. "Was this camera on the main system?"
Jan 10, 2025 4:08 am
Seth shook his head in perhaps his most human expression. "Negative, it must be connected to a private subnet." Seth immediately moved to interface with the suspicious camera.

The security on the Integrity-Assistance Video Documentation system (which is just a security system by another name) is woefully inadequate. Or to put it another way, the entirety of the security is the machine's door itself, so once it's open, it's free to access. It takes a moment to navigate the file system on the device, but the camera is proximity-sensitive and the videos are all time-coded, so it's short work to identify the video you need - the last one before the blackout. The video shows Adam lying on the floor, trying to pull himself up without the use of one leg. Frankie is the one that triggered the video; it starts as he walks past the machine, leaving the area.

A few moments later a slender figure walks in, just as Adam manages to pull himself to his feet.

"He's still alive here. Check it out." Seth beckons Bob over and casts the video from the chest mounted computer on his Rig to Bob's Device.
Jan 17, 2025 9:45 am
"mmm, that he was" Bob agrees as he watches Seth's projection. "Was it... here?" Bob moves around the area where they saw Adam stand. "Maybe more on this side?" He looks around. "Could someone fall in the vat from here?"
OOC:
This might be situational awareness, but trying to play out the events to see how Adam would end up inside the processor by accident
Jan 17, 2025 10:55 pm
I think it's pretty easy to come to the conclusion that he'd need help standing up with a broken kneecap, and while it's possible for him to have heaved himself onto the conveyor belt after that, it's not incredibly likely. That slender figure that comes into view just before the blackout cut all the cameras is probably your culprit, whoever they are.
