Scene 1: Arrival

Sep 20, 2024 9:29 am

You appear in a tropical city under the blazing sun. The familiar sounds of a harbor—creaking ropes, slapping waves, heavy barrels rolling across cobblestones—mingle with voices shouting and cursing in an unfamiliar language filled with clicks, inhalations, and singsongy words that make it sound almost musical. The aroma of unfamiliar spices and tropical fruit mixes with the wharfside smells of fish, tar, and canvas.

Beyond all that, Port Nyanzaru is an explosion of color. Buildings are painted in bright shades of blue, green, orange, and salmon pink, or their walls are adorned with murals portraying giant reptiles and mythical heroes. Every building sports baskets and clay urns of colorful flowers or is draped in leafy, flowering vines. Minstrels in bright clothing adorned with feathers and shells perform on street corners. Multicolored pennants and sun awnings flutter atop the city walls. A crowd of children dressed in feathered hats and capes races past you, squealing in delighted terror as a street performer costumed as a big-toothed lizard stomps and roars behind them. The whole city seems to be bustling, sweating, laughing, swearing, and singing.

OOC:
@MaJunior feel free to continue your chapter 0 thread in parallel, but I want to kick off base game already
Tenday 1. Day 1. Mid-day
Syndra Silvane

After teleporting you to the Port Nyanzaru and giving you each a copy of chult map Syndra explain that her current condition will not let her join you in the expedition.

I will stay at the merchant prince Wakanga O'tamu Villa and will try to secure some funding for your expedition - it will take a few days at least. You can explore the city, prepare for the expedition and seek any rumors or information you can about Chult locations to complement the map. Remember - your goal is to find and destroy necromantic artifact called the Soulmonger.
Please visit the Villa tomorrow afternoon latest to discuss progress.
Should a need arise to meet me earlier you should formally request audience with me at the villa - just find any guard and call your name and say you want to meet Syndra Silvane, they will help to organize our meeting.

Syndra Syndra recommends that the characters secure rooms for themselves at either the Thundering Lizard (if they’re looking for a raucous time) or Kaya’s House of Repose (if they want a good night’s sleep). Both inns are located near the Red Bazaar at Market Ward (east part of city)
She excuses herself and leaves you anxious looking around, hearing exotic sounds strange smells and sweeting in your homeland dressing. It is extremly hot and humid in the Port Nyanzaru at the moment.
[ +- ] City Map - PCs have not explored it yet
In a few minutes you start sweating. Until your organism get used to the extra hot an humid environment you are going to feel tired after spending even few minutes under the sun.
OOC:
Mechanically you all have Exhaustion lvl 2 at the moment. Two nights at any inn will remove it.

Please introduce your PC, how it looks and how it feels. Optionally add your PC large picture if you wish/has one.

Also everyone - please decide if you want to go to the Red Bazaar to check in an Inn or explore city. If you explore city - would you do that alone or follow anyone else from the party? City is safe no need to be afraid to split party unless you decide to leave city.
We are in a total sandbox mode right now so if you decide to explore city could suggest to railroad your PC through most important places. But you can also try to talk to any NPC asking for a tour (especially if you are willing to pay some silver for it)

Still reeling from the teleportation, a weary dwarf speaks up. "Looks like I'm not the only one unprepared for the weather." he says with a chuckle. " Any of you folks been here before? Name's Elster, fledgling cleric." he ads with a shallow half-bow. He is wearing dark green armored robes with touches of brown. He also nonchalantly wears a shield and hammer on his back, as if he doesn't use them often.
"I'm usually up for raucous festivities, but with so much to do, perhaps Kaya's is more appropriate?"

The heat and humidity hits Larsie harder than she could've imagined as sweat quickly forms on her brow. The woman, a young human, attempts to wipe the sweat away with the back of her hand, but it only seems to make matters worse as she merely smears some of the grit from her glove across her forehead.

Too tired to care about her appearance at this moment, she settles for wrapping her long brown hair into a bun, which does provide at least a bit of relief from the weather. She stands slumped, fighting to keep her posture against the weight of her chain mail and shield.

"Never been here before." she replies to Elster's query. "Just a tad too warm for my liking."

She pauses for a moment to take in the surroundings before properly introducing herself.

"I am Larsie Mooreland a guard and pilgrimage escort to those who worship Savras. It is nice to meet all of you."
Sep 21, 2024 3:26 am
The heat and humidity feels like a wall of sweaty oppression. Through all his travels, Ren had -- thankfully! -- never before ran into humid heat such as this. With any luck, he never would again.

"Ren Dothage. Courier and guide. I'm not guiding this outing though... I am simply accompanying you all."

He could feel sweat rolling down his skin, resulting in damp clothes and overall just feeling even worse. "I'll be heading to Kaya's. I am going to turn into a puddle, I hardly want anyone tromping through me and splashing me everywhere."
Sep 22, 2024 4:02 pm
Elster is listening to the introductions, but the weather is stifling. He tugs at his robes trying to provide some relief. He gestures to the east and suggest; "Perhaps we could continue this conversation on the way to Kaya's then? There will at least be a shaded area for us to talk."
Sep 22, 2024 6:48 pm
"Thanks again for this invitation Miss Silvane!" a young man says to the woman as she leaves.
https://i.imgur.com/APNz8dN.jpeg
Carrying a thin sword at his side, he is dressed in a studded leather tunic, with dark blue underclothes beneath.
He tugs at his collar "Oof, has someone mentioned the weather yet?" and he laughs while drops of sweat trickle down his cheeks. "Never been here before, I have to say with regret, looking at this wonderful city. A few days to adapt to the climate sounds like a wonderful idea." he says while looking around at all the impressions he is getting at the harbor. When his eyes land on his fellow companions, he quickly says: "Oh, my name is Yendil Sartoris by the way, explorer and researcher by trade, storyteller by heart. A bit of shelter does sound appealing Ren, but I think I'd rather take a short detour, looking down at his studded leather armor, "Hopefully I could find some merchant selling some more suitable clothing, if we're gonna stay in this heat for much longer, haha! Anyone want to join me? If not, I'll look forward to meet the rest of you back at Kaya's House of Repose." Yendil smiles expectingly.

The dark haired muscular young man dressed chain mail steps forward. He stands six feet tall, has fair skin, and piercing blue eyes. He is armed with a great sword, a glaive, and a set of Javelins. He looks be rather young. "I am Tonby Whitecloak, bounty hunter and negotiator by trade, and it is a pleasure to meet you all" Tonby wipes the sweat from his brow as he smiles. "I believe we should make for the house of repose." He starts walking.

You are immediately amazed to see Medium and Large dinosaurs are used as beasts of burden to haul two-wheeled carts, to hoist heavy loads on cranes, and to tow boats along the canals.
Most people are friendly and talk common, they help you to find way through the city toward the Red Bazaar. As you walk the streets you see walls divide the city into districts, and the open archways above the streets are painted with murals of dinosaurs, mountains, and mythic heroes.
Red Bazaar appears to be a sort of marketplace where providing locally produced meat, vegetables, tropical fruit, light tropical clothing, and variety of other household goods you may not recognize immediately.

It is impossible to miss the two inns: Kaya’s House of Repose. Stairs from market lead straight to the entrance.
[ +- ] MAP
Innkeeper at Kaya’s informs you that while both single and double rooms are available the a bed for the night costs 1 gp per person and cost include 3 meals a day and free table reservation plus first alcoholic drink for free at night (there are artist performance and other entertainment events at nigh and visitors who don't stay in the inn have to pay 2 sp to attend.
OOC:
Feel free to announce your PC drop from the group anywhere, i.e. in visit the Red Bazaar before reaching inn.
You will need to spend 1 gp of your starting money if you book in the inn.
I'm also looking for your PCs either asking either innkeeper, any character on a street or at merchant at a marketplace any questions about the city or announce to simply randomly wander the city.
What does each of you do?
Sep 23, 2024 7:06 am
Tonby will find a clothier to get lighter clothing to go with his armor and will chat him up while the merchant helps him. "Good sir, I am new to this city and will spending a few days here, perhaps you could tell me about recent happenings?"

Yendil joins Tonby on his mission to find more suitable clothing. This heat is pressing on him. Exhausted and out of breath he joins in "Yeah, I, uh, yeah, what he asks I ask also" while sweat is streaming down his face.
OOC:
Best roll to start the campaign with. A 1 and a 2. Total of seven might not be terrible, but it is the lowest for Yendil, so I kind of leaned into a failed persuasion in RP

An interesting group. Larsie thinks as she and the others make their way through town towards the Red Bazaar. Her eyes catch site of one of the many dinosaurs moving about the streets, and while she's heard of such beasts, the size and apparent strength they posses still surprises her. She slows her pace to study their movements for a bit before quickly catching up with the others.

Larsie's thoughts return to the heat and how much she is looking forward to getting out of her armor and into her regular clothes. Entering Kaya's she reaches into her pouch and produces a gold coin which she lays politely on the counter.

"Room for one, please." she asks, inching the coin towards the innkeeper with her gloved finger.

Never having been accused of being subtle, Larsie asks "Do you know of anyone in town who has been looking into the curse that has savaged the area?"
OOC:
Larise will wait for anyone else that may be checking into Kaya's at this time, and walk with them to the rooms. She also has a set of common clothes as part of her kit.
Sep 23, 2024 9:52 pm
Ren will also proffer the required gold coin for a room for the night. "By the hells, this is going to be a trip for the ages," he comments to no one in particular, wiping sweat off his brow before it runs down and stings his eyes.

The cost of failure goes unsaid.

Thr young man contemplates heading to the market after he gets settled in his room, but that will be in a bit.
Sep 23, 2024 10:51 pm
Elster takes in all the sights, sounds and smells (feeling bad for whoever had to clean up after the dinosaurs). He was trying desperately to not look out of place as he compares landmarks he sees to his map.

At Kaya's he waits his turn to chat with the innkeeper. "Another single room for me please. Close to an exit if ya don't mind, old habits an' all that." He adds with a slight smile.

After everyone seems ready, he addresses the group, while looking at his map; "Well, it's a big town eh? Do we want to split up to explore and gather info? I know that won't exactly help us learn more about each other though. Maybe we split into a couple groups? I plan on heading to the docks myself, always good scuttlebutt there."
Sep 24, 2024 3:20 am
"Small groups might be useful..." Larsie offers "...always nice to have some extra eyes around when in unfamiliar territory."
Sep 24, 2024 4:22 pm
Red Bazaar
Tonby and Yendil acquire local fashioned clothes, while merchant share some of minor events happened in the market, but realizing you are into bigger events share the biggest even of the last holiday:

Explaining that Jonathan was the winner of gladiator championships. But most spectacular where the special contest of mages battling captured ghouls, skeletons, or zombies. This all happened in the Grand Coliseum - the site of gladiatorial games. You learn that smaller events are held on most afternoons (qualifying matches, consolation bouts and such).

Kaya’s House of Repose
Everyone who pay a gold piece get's a room to their satisfaction with quality keys and assurance that you can leave your belongings in the room.
Curse savaged the area? innkeeper looks at Larsie for a moment do you mean the undead roaming Chult? They have been as long as I remember. I only know of some who are "looking into" ancient treasures scattered through the land. In a way undead protect those treasures he smiles and if you ask explain that undead are not "protecting" them directly, they just prevent poeple from travelling and discovering the sites. Still some brave adventurers risk their lives travelling.

And please everyone refill your waterskins before leaving inn. For customers drinking water for is for free

What next?

Tenday 1. Day 1. Mid-day
OOC:
What do you do? Where do you want to go now as you have secured the rooms. If you ask innkeeper places of interest he suggests Jewel Market if you think you can afford and Dinosaur Racing (will happen late evening)
Sep 24, 2024 6:02 pm
After buying his new set of clothes, Yendil goes to Kaya's. He puts a gold coin on the front desk "A few new friends of mine were planning on renting a room here, and I'd like to do so as well. If anybody of them ask, I'm gonna change into these newly bought clothes, and head out to the Grand Coliseum. I'll always enjoy watching a good fight. Oh by the way, dear innkeeper, could you point me into the right direction of this Grand Coliseum?" And Yendil heads to his room, drops his backpack and changes into his new outfit. Going back to the entrance hall, he'll look for any companion to join him to go and see a fight.
Sep 24, 2024 6:53 pm
Ren will spend the entire first day laying on his bed drinking water in the dark. He'll come out for meals, and to touch bases with the rest of his party, but he fully intends to do nothing but aclimate the first day.
Sep 24, 2024 8:10 pm
Elster tells the group "I'll quickly inspect my room, then I'm off to see the, most likely seedier parts of town. Anyone with the stomach for it is welcome to join me." He says, then his is off, room key in hand. He inspects his room to make sure it's ok, then leaves the gear he doesn't think he'll need like his backpack and warhammer.

He heads back to the entrance to talk to the innkeeper once more. "Where would mariners, the types most people would likely avoid, happen to be gathering about this time of day?" While waiting for the answer, Elster drinks his entire waterskin, before filling it again.
OOC:
hoping to use criminal contacts to get information on the town. But I don't know how that works mechanically. DO I have to send a message to my contact to find out who in town I can talk to? Or do I just drop their name and tell people they can trust me?
Sep 24, 2024 9:07 pm
"Might be a good way to get some information. I will meet you back here in a few minutes."

Larsie takes the key and enters her room, quickly throwing her pack, weapons, and shield onto the bed in a heap. She works her way out of her armor and changes into her common clothing, checking to make sure the Savras pendant, attached to a silver chain around her neck, is in place. While initially considering to take her sword, she decides against it, and simply grabs four gold coins which she shoves into her pants pocket.

With one final check of the room, she collects her waterskin and heads back to down to get it filled.

"I feel naked without my weapons." she admits to Elster, "but what's the worst that happen?"
OOC:
I like the color for the spoken dialog, so I'm going to "borrow" the idea. If the chosen color is hard to read for anyone please let me know and I'll pick something else.

Tonby will secure his room Kaya's after if finishing with the merchant. Coming in behind and saying "Same as my friend, please and thank you." He places a gold on the counter. Once he has his room, he goes and quickly changes. He is now dressed in jungle fashion. He puts his armor back on, and takes his great sword with him, but leaves his pack, glaive, and javelins in the room. He also takes his water skin.

When he returns from his room he looks to Elster and Larsie and says, "There's gladiator fights if you care to join me and Yendil." He makes sure his water skin is full while he talks. "Take it easy today, take in the new sights, and enjoy some of what this place has to offer."
Sep 25, 2024 12:48 pm
Kaya’s House of Repose
Innkeeper notice Larsie's pendant and ask if she has beet to the Temple of Savras already. You learn that in this city there is a Temple of Savras at Merchat's ward and how to find it (uphill wet of harbor).

Place mariners avoid? Can't think of a place where you can't see a sailor. innkeeper don't understand Elster's question. Perhaps you mean The Old City? It is run by "beggar princes". Most of the residents are lower-class laborers or struggling artisans who can’t afford the higher rents of homes inside the city walls.
OOC:
@crazybirdman you don't have any criminal contact in this city or this region. Neither the reputation. You will have to develop new contacts in this city. Please let me know what's your goal - do you want to establish contact with thieves, robbers, assassins, smugglers, anyone else?
As much as I understand your feature you have a contact at Baldur's gate and you can find way to send/receive message from that contact. You can do that for free, just let me know what is the message and take into account that message will take months to travel across the ocean
Grand Coliseum is not far from the inn and it is grand indeed - you did notice it
[ +- ] Grand Coliseum location
At Grand Coliseum
This stone arena is the site of gladiatorial games. Statues of the arena’s greatest champions line the tops of the Grand Coliseum’s walls. A walking by chultian shows you one one of the city’s current merchant princes. Ekene-Afa gained fame and fortune as a gladiator before retiring from the arena to become a trader and politician. he explains.

Once inside you could see two gladiators fighting on the arena, demonstrating decent skills. Tonby don't believe he would be able to stand against either of them in 1:1 combat even if weather be more of what he is used to.
OOC:
Feel free to decide if you joined Tonby and Yendil at Arean or not.
What next?
OOC:
It didn't take significant time, so it is still Mid-Day. What else would you like to do today?
Sep 25, 2024 4:19 pm
Larsie says:
"I feel naked without my weapons." she admits to Elster, "but what's the worst that happen?"
"I usually try to avoid direct confrontations, but I'll have this just in case." he says, patting the mace hanging at his waist. "Hopefully it's enough of a deterrent"
Tonby says:
"There's gladiator fights if you care to join me and Yendil." He makes sure his water skin is full while he talks. "Take it easy today, take in the new sights, and enjoy some of what this place has to offer."
"I think we are going to chat with some locals, nothing too taxing, but I plan to be back here in time for dinner." Elster replies. "Maybe stop by the temple the innkeeper mentioned."
OOC:
yeah, I figure it can't hurt to establish a good reputation with the criminal element in town, but no rush
Sep 25, 2024 6:01 pm
Feeling a little more comfortable that at least one of them is armed, Larsie resists the urge to run back to the room for her sword.

"Avoiding confrontations would be best." she agrees with Elster's sentiment.

Larsie is anxious to visit the temple, believing that they'd be willing to openly share any information they may have with a fellow follower. But not wanting to appear overly excited about the prospect, she simply offers...

"Perhaps we can stop by the temple quickly on our way back here at the end of the day. I'd like to have a quick chat with those in charge to see what information that may be willing to share. In the meantime, however, let's go meet the locals."
Sep 25, 2024 10:55 pm
"Great, let's hit the market first, look around a bit. I do want to get more appropriate clothing eventually. That should give us plenty of time at the temple." Elster says as they head out. He plans to just go to the market, or any crowded area, and attempt to make contact with any criminal or shady looking types.
OOC:
no big deal if this doesn't happen, but he's hoping to spot a pickpocket (if he's lucky they'll spot his out of place clothing and target him) or something and (awkwardly) introduce himself. Maybe walk to the waterfront, and then head to the temple.
Sep 26, 2024 5:40 am
"Yendil, whenever you wish to go to the coliseum, I am ready, it doesn't appear that anyone else will be joining us," Tonby says firmly to Yendil. He was ready to ease into things. No need to go somewhere that will get you into trouble or ask the wrong kind of question to the wrong person while in unfamiliar territory. The coliseum would most likely have betting and drinking which would have a certain level of criminality come with it and would most likely yield information.
Sep 26, 2024 4:27 pm
OOC:
I think it would be helpful that I announce I'm looking for players to describe their PC actions for hour (please do note as OOC in your post if you specifically want to pause game and have a shorter period for your PC).
Elster take time to walk through red bazaar. He noticed that locals hide any purse well below their dress so you could guess he must easy find some pickpocket, but he can't find any. He then recall on their way to the inn party passed buy a large pavilion that seems to work as a marketplace. Spending more time there he fails again. Only as he walks the streets full with people he finally notice pickpocket following him and obviously looking for the right moment to steal.

At Grand Coliseum
Fights are scheduled every 15 minutes. One is over now, but you can wait for other fights they inform you.
For Tonby's surprise any betting places are closed and he only find one shop selling something like a hot-dog and an amber-colored drink (a mug costs 4 cp). Tej, fermented alcoholic drink made from honey. Chult's special. you get an explanation. It appears betting and drinking is mostly happening during the big holiday event. If you are into betting wait for dinosaur racing tonight. If you are not afraid to go outside city walls - visit Executioner’s Run by SW city gates. You can still get there in time for today's punishment that will happen in an hour. some local suggests.
OOC:
@szemely does Larsie join Coliseum visit? I assume so for now, but feel free to post an alternative course of action for next hour.

@TatharCiryatan @Azule86 please see my previous and this post. Your PC are at the Coliseum already. I assume Tonby spend his time investigating situation with drinking and betting.
I have no idea what's Larsie and Yendil goal with the Coliseum visit, though. Let me know if there is a goal other than enjoy the fights and relax? And please try to explain your goal for the next hour. Let's respect @MaJunior who's PC will be waiting in the inn next several hours and try to move story forward an hour with each post.

Tonby will get a mug of the drink and tip the shopkeeper a copper piece then he will look for a decent place to watch some of the fights from before heading back to the Inn after a bit.
Sep 26, 2024 8:13 pm
Elster spots the pickpocket and quietly says to Larsie "Ah, I think I've found who I'm looking for. This shouldn't take long". Just before the thief decides to strike, Elster uses his magic to distract them with a whisper in their ear; 'No, not this one' , and then Elster says aloud, "Here's a chance to make a quick, easy, and honest coin. 1 silver if you introduce me to your boss, and another if you tell me where I can buy an outfit to blend in and doesn't make me look like such an easy target."
OOC:
I'm not sure what a reasonable amount to offer a pickpocket is, hopefully that's enough? Goal here is to make contact with, and eventually establish myself with the seedier elements in town. So it doesnt all have to happen immediately.
Sep 26, 2024 9:22 pm
Ashamed at her lack of awareness of the situation, but now fully aware of what's happening, Larsie's training quickly kicks in. While Elster is interacting with the would be thief, she scans the area for potential threats looking to take advantage of the ongoing transaction - while not so subtly checking her pockets to ensure her own coin is still with her.
Sep 26, 2024 10:59 pm
Yendil nudges Tonby "What a shame that we couldn't bet on the fights anymore. That dinosaur racing does sound exciting, does it not Tonby? Though outside of the city walls sounds more like something after a few good nights of sleep. From what I've heard it is dangerous outside of city walls." After seeing a few fights with Tonby, Yendil would like to stroll around the city. Getting familiar with the lay of the land, and where most of the highlights are. If he will not find it himself, he will ask the locals if they can show him the way to the library in town. He would like to try some local street food, but since he is still not used to the heat, he'll be wise and go for some bread, a stew and some ale.
OOC:
@GreyWord Could you post a map of Port Nyanzaru in the Handout Thread as well? Or are you waiting until we've explored it further?

Everyone traveling around realize locals are dressing more colorful and extravagant than you are used to in the Baldur's gates, not just rich but everyone.

Larsie has been following Elster at a distance as he asked to. She observes

Elster is approached by a pair of passing-by locals when he pronounce verbal component of his spell : Using magic in the city is prohibited unless you have a permit from Wakanga O'tamu's. Do you? the thief answers sit, he is just new in town and were truing to impress me, no harm done, I will educate him on our customs the pair seems to satisfied and move on. Thief turns back to Elster ans suggest: How about you give me 2 silver and I will try to help you with whatever you are trying to achieve here in the city best of my abilities. No promises thought. Will you trust me?

Yendil is disappointed to figure out there is no library of any king in the city. Spending an hour Yendil walks around the East part of the city noticing following:

- Flowers, green plants, and vines grow everywhere, seeming to spring out of the building stones themselves. The profusion of greenery needs constant tending to prevent roots and shoots from damaging buildings or tile roofs.

- Tabaxi minstrels wander the streets, performing for anyone who tosses them a few coins.

Tonby enjoy the strange drink that surprising provides a refreshment, not only an alcoholic joy. He watch more fight and realize gladiators be of a similar skill level. Back at the inn he notice tables are mostly empty and barmen explains that people will be gathering later - when temperature drops, but suggests Tej at the same price if Tonby want to to spend time waiting.
Sep 28, 2024 5:55 am
Tonby will take another glass and some food, he will ask the bartender, "What do you recommend to eat here for someone new to the city?" He knew he would have to get familiar with the cuisine eventually.
Sep 28, 2024 7:12 am
"Was it magic? Was it your conscience? Was it the whisper of the gods? Who's to say?" Elster jokes, glad that they have chosen not to escalate the situation. He made a mental note to look into this 'magic permit' later though.
Elster begrudgingly hands over 2 silver. "No actually I don't trust you, likewise I'd not expect you to trust me . But perhaps we can help each other. Scratch my back and all that eh? We're in Chult to help people, to try and break the curse that plagues the land. Something tells me we're going to need all the help we can get, no matter where it comes from. For now, any information you have would be useful. Anything odd or out of place been happening?"

New to chult? We have a Dimetrodon stew for day's meal - free for you. that's included in your 1 gp per day. But I personally prefer tender fish better than tough reptile. Except of course Plesiosaur steak, but that's rare catch and damn expensive. Nine silver a piece, who can afford that? Talking of the local cuisine, I can give you this for starters
He offer you crunchy small fish, fried with salt. And since there are little to no other patrons in the tavern at the moment he asks you some polite questions, like where are you from and how do you like the weather so far.

Yendil is looking at an impressive statue at the center of the harbor that seems to represent a king in full regalia, resplendent in a loincloth of leopard skin and a headdress of feathers, shells, and tyrannosaurus teeth; draped in a cape of girallon fur and monkey tails; and wielding the strange oval shield and weapon like big javelin.

A passing buy person explain That's Na N’buso, the Great King.
Seeing your interest he continue
Do you know - the statue isn’t nearly as ancient as the mythic king it portrays. It was erected just five years ago, at a time when Port Nyanzaru was flexing its new mercantile muscle, to impress on foreigners that Chult is an independent land with a glorious history.

Elster and Thief conversation
Curse ? What curse? You mean death curse that only affects the rich people who denied the death one? That's only fair you can't buy life for money. looks like the thief is very little worried about your cause. He comes closer and whispers the rest of the message: But hey, if you are helping rich people, they pay you well, don't they? I wouldn't mind share some of that money. You can certainly hire me and my partners to "help" you at a reasonable price, but let's go to my place to discuss details in private.

Elster knows Larsie is nearby but thief obviously invite only Elster at the moment. Would he introduce the fighter at a risk of scaring thief away?

OOC:
What does Yendil know about the Great King Na N'buso? I've added a history roll if required, up to you DM to use or ignore it.
Disappointed by the lack of a library, Yendil continues his stroll around the east part of the city. Stopping at the harbor, he stares at a huge statue in the middle of it.

Yendil smiles when the stranger starts to elaborate on the statue. "Nice to meet you Chiwa, I'm Yendil and I just arrived from Baldur's Gate a few hours ago. Thank you for sharing! This statue does look magnificent. With an appearance like that, he must have been a perfect model for a sculpture of this grandeur. Do you know why they chose to honor Great King Na N'buso specifically for this statue? I mean, there must have been others who left a mark in the history of Chult, as his powerful presence can't possibly be the only reason.
Five years ago you said, was there a sudden change in leadership, or income for the city at that time?"
Yendil smiles at the man, happy that he is able to learn about the history of this land still covered in mystery.

"I really need to get some new clothes." Larsie sighs, realizing that she sticks out like a sore thumb in her clothing.

She does her best to not draw attention to herself as she shuffles about pretending to window shop, all the while keeping an eye on Elster and the thief.
OOC:
Larsie will spend the 2GP for new clothes as soon as she gets a chance.

Yendil and Chiwa
The fey days Yendil had before teleportation was spent researching Chult history and recall it used to be a monarchy though it was not easy to find any details on Chult history Yendil Gcant recall King Na N'buso name.

Chiwa
Chiwa laughs The statue isn’t nearly as ancient as the mythic king it portrays. It was erected just five years ago, at a time when Port Nyanzaru was flexing its new mercantile muscle, to impress on foreigners that Chult is an independent land with a glorious history. he stop laughing and add seriously It was not built to honor ancestors. Nothing is
You can hear a note of disappointment in Chiwa's voice.

Larsie at Red Bazaar
Larsie find dress that both looks good on her are is well suited for the weather. Merchant selling the dress is complaining about his dress supplier Razira not disappearance lately. The good news are however that the size/style Larsie chosen is unusual and not sold out yet.

Didn't Chiwa already say that first paragraph? Or is this on purpose, because then Yendil will want to look into that further
"So just to impress outsiders or perhaps even scare invaders? Why did they choose a statue of a king from long ago, and not a magnificent fortress or something like that? Five years ago you said, was there a sudden change in leadership, or income for the city at that time?"

Thief says:

... but let's go to my place to discuss details in private.
"I'm always happy to make the wealthy a little bit less wealthy." Elster says with a grin, stroking his beard in thought. "But I don't have time for a meeting right now, nor am I alone. You can meet me at Raya's after dinner, ask for Elster. We can chat further then an there." He adds, and walks over to where Larsi is waiting.
"Sorry for the abrupt surprise there, but your response was admirable. It's been a while since I've had someone watching my back, so thank you. Now let's get some proper attire, and find that temple of yours eh?"
OOC:
Elster doesn't want to meet with the thief on his turf, or the thieves terms. He also would prefer to find out what the rest of the group has found, then he'll know better what to ask this thief for

Larsie is a bit relieved to see Elster approaching alone after dealing with the thief.
Quote:
"Sorry for the abrupt surprise there, but your response was admirable. It's been a while since I've had someone watching my back, so thank you. Now let's get some proper attire, and find that temple of yours eh?"
"You're welcome. I'm just glad my training kicked in despite how miserable I feel in this weather."

She takes in a deep breath and slowly exhales.

"And yes, it's time for some more appropriate clothing. Let's go."
"Many thanks." Larsie says as she hands over her gold for the purchase of the dress. Upon hearing about the missing dress supplier, she asks the merchant for any information that they may have about Razira's normal routine and where she might reside.

"No promises, but I'll keep Razira in mind while going about my business."
OOC:
Little out of order with the clothing purchasing, but we'll assume she waited until after Elster was done dealing with the thief and the two of them are together while getting clothes.

Tonby tries the fish and says, "I'll take some more of that, and I am from Baldur's Gate." He actually like the mix of the salt with the crispy then tender textures and flavors. He places enough gold on the counter for the drink and the food. "The weather takes some time to get used to I take it because it hits you hard at first." He sips his Taj and relaxes in his seat at the bar.

"Ah, I see, I'm sorry, I'm not that familiar with the history of Chult yet, but I do love to learn more." Yendil says with a smile. "Oh yeah, I did notice all those plants earlier. I don't think I've ever seen a city where almost every building was, how do I say this, infected by plants. Sure, an abandoned or ruined building that was neglected by the city officials, but not to this level. Chiwa, this almost seems deliberate to me. Is it? Is this city on the verge of being overrun by plants a choice, or is the city fighting against it?" Yendil asks. He takes another look at the gentleman that seems to be willing to share information "If it is not to forward, may I ask what made you talk to me about the history of Port Nyanzaru? What do you do for a living?"

OOC:
Thanks for patience.
Larsie and Elster spend time purchasing suitable dress and chat with the merchant who is selling them. You realize that merchants at red bazaar prefer to not just sell you stuff, but the service. Merchant guess Larsie is probably in the city for an adventuring expedition into the jungles and share that he have been selling things to such adventurers quite often. You may need insect repellent and rain catchers if you are to go to an expedition he suggests pointing out some merchants in the red bazaar who are selling those.

Bartender

All the way from Baldur's Gate?! Bartender is surprised and asks if Tonby are not joking. He then asks what brings you this far, is it the the cite-seeing or a divine quest. A priest of Torm have been here recently looking for party to go to Camp Vengeance. Are you with them?

Chiwa

I work at Jevel market, Merchants’ Ward. But I have a day-off today. Not much buyers at the beginning of the week. Yesterday was busy. he also assures you that there are no abandoned buildings in the city (it could be different outside the city walls - citizens who can't afford houses in the city live there outside. city is overpopulated since due to undead everyone had to retreat into the city). It is simply too expensive to fight with the plants hay say in a voice that suggests it is not what he actually think.
OOC:
OK, I'm good to continue small-talks with everyone, but would prefer if you could each figure out if there is any goal/objective your PC would like to accomplish before dinner I would like you all to have at the Kaya’s House of Repose . Ren has spent the day laying in his room, curtains drawn, drinking water regularly. That said, he's starting to get hungry.
Oct 1, 2024 5:39 pm
"The Merchants' Ward, I believe we're staying in an inn close by, perhaps I'll drop by later this week." Yendil takes a second to take in the man talking to him. He whispers "So they want us to believe that it is to expensive. Between you and me, what is the actual reason?"
OOC:
I feel like there is something useful Yendil can learn from Chiwa, so I'll just try to dig deeper.

"I will be sure to pick some of those items up before I head out." Larsie says to the merchant before thanking them for the advice. While it seem to make sense to equip oneself properly for such a journey, Larsie isn't convinced that all of the items are needed.

Once outside she asks Elster his take on the situation.

"I think these merchants may be trying to take advantage of a couple of outsiders. I'm just not very good at reading people. What do you think?"
Oct 1, 2024 8:29 pm
Chiwa
That's the official version. he answer with a shrug, then look around and whispers None of the merchant princes think it affect their particular business. And they care little for anything but their business he then turn the voice back again and add Reality - who knows. Perhaps' that's attracting tourists and adventurers, makes this city seem antique, you know...
Oct 1, 2024 8:29 pm
Elster pays the 2 gold, and picks an outfit that breathes, can be worn with his existing armor, and in the brown and green colors of his usual vestments. The green is brighter than he would like, but it would do.
"I agree, but I was too distracted to try and get a good read on the guy. Was he trying to sell us extra chaff, or useful merch?" He shrugs, "We'll have to worry about that another time. We have to get to your temple. I don't want to miss dinner."

I don't think she mentioned her name, but finding Half-Orc woman walking around the city in chain shirt shouldn't be a problem.

@MaJunior your PC could actually join Tonby at the pub while waiting for normal dinner
Earlier today
szemely says:
any information that they may have about Razira's normal routine and where she might reside"

Razira lives and works at dye works (very east of the city). Merchant visited his house but master colorist where not present and neighbors informed he left in the morning quite worried. You get a description of the house so would be easy to find the house.
OOC:
Sorry to postpone this one, but better late than never, right? :)
Temple of Sarvas

You learn that there are three big temples in the city Gond, Sune and Savras. Temple of Sarvas is on the hill surrounded by second level of wall and appears to be the upper-class section of the city. You notice few fancy villas guarded by armed man.

When Larsie and Elster enter temple they see a man dressed like priest in the midst of a heated conversation with three commonly dressed humans. They don't notice PCs and are so loud that PCs manage to understand the the context of discussion:
Three man are looking for someone by name Artus Cimber. They wan priest named Zitembe to cast a spell to aid in their search. They offer payment in the form of a 500 gp ruby, but Zitembe shoos them away. Humans seem hesitant to leave without satisfaction, but then they notice the arrival of the characters and changes their minds: they depart with scowls on their faces.

Zitembe
Savras be praised. priest believes your intervention helped to avoid problems with the 3 man who he felt. Those man have evil intentions, I assure you!
He express his gratitude for Larsie and Elster arrival.
Grandfather Zitembe The head priest of the temple he introduce himself and is looking for further conversation with you
Oct 2, 2024 4:44 pm
Larsie watches intently while the men argue with the priest, readying herself to intervene if things get physical. Giving her state of exhaustion, however, she is quite relieved when they simply leave.

"Such behavior in one of our temples! Have these men bothered you before, Grandfather?" she asks, before asking a few others.

"Grandfather. My compatriots and I have traveled here in order to help put an end to the curse that is affecting those who have been given a second chance at life. What do you know of the curse? Anything about its origin?"

"Any information that you may give us, even if you don't think it is important may end up being helpful to us in the end."
OOC:
Whenever their interaction is done here, Larsie will leave the last two gold pieces she has with herewith the temple as a donation.
Oct 3, 2024 8:42 am
"Can you tell me about Camp Vengeance?" Tonby figured if this guy was willing to share information with him why not listen. Any of it could end being helpful and knowing more about what lay outside the city walls is definitely helpful.
Oct 3, 2024 5:44 pm
"Seems like most of the folks in this town are trying to find someone else in town. Who is this 'Artus' person they were looking for?" Elster respectfully ask.

I know but rumors: Order of the Gauntlet has committed considerable resources toward quelling the undead menace in Chult.
Its forward base, Camp Righteous, was overrun by undead. The order, undaunted, built a new fortification even deeper in the jungle.

Temple of Savras
Zitembe
Zitembe is clueless about the source but suggests: Superstitious people call it a curse, my child, but you should understand clerics have the power to remove any curse. Whatever is affecting souls of once dead people is anything but a curse. Zitembe recognize Larsie faith and talks directly to her. He do not have any useful information though
I know not who this Artus is. People know of my ability to ask Sarvas send me visions of anything I can name. They offered 500 gold pieces for me to help locate that person. My ability is not a merchandise and they were unwilling to understand that.
He turns Larsie believe she would understand: The ritual takes 24 hours and involves more than time. Sarvas power is to be used wise and with good intentions
Oct 3, 2024 10:12 pm
"I appreciate you taking the time to talk to me and my companion, Grandfather. I will be staying at Kaya's House of Repose this evening and most likely the next. If those men continue to harass you please feel free to contact me and I will do what I can to help."

Feeling a little disappointed that the priest couldn't offer more information, Larsie is ready to move on.

"Shall we?" she asks Elster, motioning towards the door, "I'm starting to get a bit hungry and I'm curious as to what the others have found."

When she leaves she will stop by the collection plate, say a quick prayer, and leave the last 2GP she brought with her.
Oct 3, 2024 10:30 pm
"Aye, let's go. We have much to discuss with the others" Before leaving, Elster will say a few prayers.
Oct 5, 2024 4:03 am
"I have heard a brief mention of the large amount of undead here, does anyone know why there are so many?" Tonby smiled and thought to himself about the undead here and the "Death Curse". They had a connection, perhaps the same source, or same purpose. He could speculate but discovering the truth of the matter is what is important.

They have been there are long as I remember Bartender who looks like 40 years old add when he see your surprising look You don't ask why is water in a river or insects in the air, do you?! I don't ask why are undead all around Port Nyanzaru. he take time to consider and add Actually, it has not always been that way. Adventurers keep exploring remains of civilization that lived in the Chult centuries ago - that should have been before undead plagued the land

Returning to Kaya’s House of Repose

Kaya’s House of Repose - dinner

When everyone gather at the table for dinner and wait for dinner to be served an a strange pair of energetic persons enter to inn: a tall halfing.
https://i.imgur.com/Y237PzP.jpeg

They scan the inn and the human goes to to meet bartender and chat with him, while halfing approache your table
Gondolo
Welcome to the Chult, my dear. Chult treasure abounds! Are looking to for ancient sites and sacred places? We know all of them. You’ll be swimming in gold and magic when we explore them together! All the other guides will lead you in circles and make you do all the work. Don’t be fooled! When we return to Port Nyanzaru, you will have tales and fortunes enough to last a lifetime.
Oh I forgot to introduce myself. Gondolo an official guide certified by the merchant Prince Jabal. And over there are the bar is my partner - Faroul. Why pay for one guide when you can have TWO for the same price! We have the smarts, the goods, and our own triceratops!

The talkative halfing say this all on a single breath - before you can even try to interrupt him
Oct 6, 2024 1:53 pm
When reading the poster, Yendil gets interested in at least contacting this guide. Especially because they are upfront about the fact that they themself have a mission to go on, and need adventurers to help retrieving their mask from this pterafolk. Also, Yendil want to learn what pterafolk is.

Yendil looks at the talkative halfling in standing at their table, and tries to get some insight on the man in front of him, if his motivations are true.
OOC:
Rolled an insight if necessary, feel free to ignore if not
"Nice to meet you Gondolo. We are indeed her on an expedition, but are still trying to find our footing in this land. What can you tell us about the surrounding area? Where have you been to the most?"

Adventurers were always causing trouble back home and it was the same here but the bartender probably didn't want to hear about it. Tonby joined the others when they all returned.

Tonby was about to begin asking the others about how they faired around the city when the Halfling approached. He said his name was Gondolo. He sounded like one of the charlatans back home selling phony magic. A fast talker with nothing but flash. "If you don't mind me asking, why haven't you gotten these treasures and retiring to the good life in say, Neverwinter or wherever you prefer if you know all the spots?"
OOC:
@GreyWord can I roll an insight check on this guy? He sounds like he is full of it.

Oct 7, 2024 9:26 pm
Gondolo
My dear friend. Jungle expedition is not a two man journey...
Gondolo burst in words explaining that jungle expedition requires investment and they just don't yet have enough to organize their own expedition. So do you plan to organize an expedition? I'm sorry to waste you time if that is not your goal in the Port Nyanzaru.

He leaves you a
[ +- ] brochure

and leaves inn with his partner, letting you know he would come next day just in case you would decide about expedition.

Larsie can't hear what the man is saying as he turned his back to you, but she hear most of the bartender answers. There are some small-talk about weather and health, but bartender also explained to man that your party is the only newcomers in the inn.
OOC:
Still waiting for insight with disadvantage to be rolled. Without rolling an insight it is clear that the halfing hopes that your goal in chult is to organize expedition hunting treasures and he would like party to hire them as jungle guides. Sorry to not let you keep talk to NPC, you will have the opportunity to meet him again
You eat your dinner and share whatever you have discovered today and start to plan next day.
OOC:
What do you think you want to do tomorrow?
What do you still want to do tonight?

OOC:
I've added the disadvantage roll in my previous post.
Looking at the halfling leaving the inn, Yendil will say under his breath to whomever sits next to him"Surprising feat for a guide, to leave your group with more questions than answers. Not sure what I think about that yet. Also, wasn't he and his brochure to much focused on getting treasure and fortunes? Something about that feels off to me."
OOC:
That's what Yendil says and feels, without the conclusion of his insight roll.
"Both these guides mentioned merchant prince Yabal. Would it be a good idea for at least some of us to go and find Syndra and/or the merchant prince Wakanga O'tamu Villa, to gather some more information about them?"

Yendil will probably finish his meal, drink a lot of water to rehydrate, and either joins a walk around town if it interests him, or relax in his room until morning.

Tonby's mind works perfect despite the condition his body is at the moment. He managed to ask Gondolo questions he obviously avoided to answer. Both Tonby and Yendil have a feeling Gondolo has a very high self-assessment, but his actual experience probably lags behind. That's probably the reason two of them ask the same price as other guides ask for single guide services.
Oct 8, 2024 6:26 pm
While the group was still at their dinner table, but when no more strangers were lingering around, Elster tried to summarize the situation: "Well, this town seems to have much going on. We could search for missing people, search for treasure in the jungle, or search for the source of this curse. Whatever we decide to do tomorrow, I'd like to keep it light, this heat is still pressing, and we have to meet with the boss in the afternoon."
Oct 8, 2024 6:30 pm
"We're here for the curse. Anything else is a distraction," Ren chimes in. "Tomorrow, let's make sure we have anything we need for our mission before the meeting. We need to be ready to go."
Oct 8, 2024 7:10 pm
"Sometimes distractions can be beneficial." Larsie chimes in.

"While the curse is certainly the objective, and should remain our focus, if we find we're close to dealing with one of these distractions along the way it might be worth the time; especially if it gets us on someone's good side."
TatharCiryatan says:
"Surprising feat for a guide, to leave your group with more questions than answers. Not sure what I think about that yet. Also, wasn't he and his brochure to much focused on getting treasure and fortunes? Something about that feels off to me."
"I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way."
Oct 8, 2024 7:57 pm
"Ren is correct of course. Although I did become a cleric in a foolish attempt to help people. So if there's people in need, I'll try to help. For example, we learned of a missing dye merchant. It'd be great if we could bring them home." Elster will tell the table about clothes shopping, the missing merchant, and the scuffle at the temple. "Did anyone find any info as to how to end this curse?
Oct 9, 2024 12:01 am
"Those two were typical con artists, nothing more" Tonby put the two men out of hind for the moment. "I learned nothing sadly."
Oct 9, 2024 4:54 pm
"If we end up deciding to call in the help from a guide, at this moment my preference is with Azaka with their missing wooden mask, but maybe we should enquire with merchant prince Jabal before deciding. After speaking to Miss Syndra and merchant prince Wakanga of course."

"Aren't distractions the cherry on the cake? As long as it doesn't make us drift to far from our goal towards finding this so called Soulmonger, I'd like to explore this land and its inhabitants a bit more. Speaking of, I met a merchant from Jevel market at the Merchants’ Ward called Chiva. He was under the impression that the plant overgrowth could be dealt with, but the merchant princes choose not to. It doesn't affect them, and might even attract tourists or adventurers, but I can't imagine it being linked to the death curse. I'm not sure what to do with that bit of information, but I sensed some kind of discontent towards the merchant princes from him, which seems odd coming from a merchant."

"I'd like to do something tomorrow, but I have no idea other than just walking around and exploring the town."
Oct 9, 2024 7:00 pm
"Exploring the town isn't such a bad idea, seems we've learned quite a bit that way so far." Larsie responds.

While finishing her dinner, Larsie shares some of the details of her visit with the Grandfather of the local Savras temple.

"Some men were in a heated argument with the good priest, trying to get him to agree to cast a location spell to try and find someone named... Artus, I think it was. They even offered payment using the largest ruby I've ever seen. Whoever this man is, he must be important."

At the end of the meal, Larise will let the others know that she is heading over to the home of Razira the missing dress supplier.

"Just to take a quick peek before heading back and getting some sleep. Maybe I'll find something interesting to report to Syndra tomorrow."

We don't need to set up a meeting with Syndra if we are planning to be there in the afternoon right? That's when we are expected to be there?
Oct 10, 2024 2:31 am
"You masochists can go wandering around all you want," Ren replies. "I'll be laying in a dark room trying not to move."
Oct 10, 2024 2:57 am
Elster just chuckles. "Very well then Ren. We won't bother you unless we discover something tremendous. Even then we may wait until breakfast."
At the front desk, Elster ask whoever is on staff a couple questions; "I've heard that a permit is needed to perform magic here. If that's true, where can one get such a permit? Mind you, I'll understand if it isnt true, as this was told to me by someone not terribly reliable. Speaking of which, has anyone been by looking for me?"
OOC:
Elster is asking about the criminal he met earlier, he didn't get his name. I don't think they are showing up, buy Elster doesn't know that. :)
Oct 10, 2024 4:06 am
"There was something the bartender about a priest heading to Camp Vengeance but he didn't have much to say about her," Tonby said firmly. "He did mention the this is the second camp they established deep in the jungle to fight the undead so it may be of use to check it out at some point." Tonby will finish his meal.

"I will join you all and see how well we all work together and in what capacity our skills work," Tonby rises to join his comrades departing the Inn.
Oct 10, 2024 4:30 pm
OOC:
You don't need to set up meeting with Syndra "tomorrow afternoon". Anything earlier need prior notice
Elster, everyone in the inn deny that someone would be looking for you or anyone from your party (except the two guide whom you met).

There is no "front desk" in your inn. Bartender is managing all the guest queries. He laughs.
"Permit", you probably have those in Baldurs' gates. Here in Port Nyanzaru people are reasonable. We don't do offensive acts such as swing weapons or cast magic in public. If a need arise to use magic in the city streets we would request Wakanga or his people.
OOC:
This is not directly in module, but more of my interpretation. Almost every spell requires verbal component. When you see someone casting you don't know is it a fireball or a spell that would help stealing something from you - all people must be afraid hearing verbal component as as we would be hearing a sound of an incoming artillery fire.
Think of it as of of visibly carrying a firearm in public places.
10 minutes later everyone but Ren gathers outside inn, trying to decide which way to go. It is still hot, but buildings are casting long shadows. Even though it has been partially cloudy with some rains through the day you find it easier to breath in a shadow. Your heads are heavy nevertheless.
OOC:
Where do you want to go tonight?
Oct 10, 2024 5:31 pm
Elster fills his waterskin and meets up with the group. "The Merchant we bought from said Razira lives on the east side of the city. Shall we head there?" he'll also tell them what the bartender said about magic and weapons in public, in case they didn't overhear it..
Oct 11, 2024 12:53 am
Before heading out, Larsie will go back to her room to don her armor and gather her weapons; both for protection and to help her get acclimated to wearing full kit in the unpleasant weather. "At least the sun is going down." she thinks, trying to rationalizer her decision.
crazybirdman says:
"Shall we head there?"
"Yes, let's. See if there is any sort of hint as to what may have happened to her ."
Oct 11, 2024 7:49 am
Tonby also fills his water skin and prepares to and keeps his great sword on him just in case something happened. "We are just waiting on Yendil. Ren seems uninterested in doing anything."
Oct 11, 2024 10:22 am
OOC:
Sorry, I thought I was clear with Yendil's preperations and that he would automatically join Larsie wherever they wanted to go, and not hold the group up.
Yendil joins the group with his studded leather armor, rapier, and filled waterskin by his side "Allright, I'm ready to go! Hey, while we're walking east, what are you're opninions on these merchant prince's like Wakanga O'tamu and Jabal? So far we've only heard about these two right? I'm curious if we could find out how many there are and what their names are. I mean, they've put up a statue of a fictional mythical great king in the harbor, apparently for status only, and they're not actively cleaning the city of this plant overgrowth. Maybe it's just me reading to much between the lines, could a merchant prince be behind or even profit from this death curse?"
OOC:
DM, is there any meaning to the names 'Wakanga O'tamu' and 'Jabal' that Yendil picks up on with his spell Comprehand Languages? Like 'Na N’buso' means 'the Great King' in old Old Omuan

Wakanga and Jabal are typical Chultian names. Your best guess of O'tamu - it should be a family name.

"I believe Syndra said there are seven princes is total." Larsie responds to Yendil's query.

"And she is a guest of Wakanga Otamu while in Chult. Perhaps we can get his feel for what motivations the other princes may have. I certainly haven't heard opinions on any of them from the people that I've talked to so far."
Oct 11, 2024 5:04 pm
As they walk Elster says "Interesting. Let's make sure to learn what we can about these princes when we can." all the while he is discreetly looking around. Just taking in all the sights, sounds and people.

Not without asking locals for help you do find the house of Razira's house. The doors are not locked and you enter . A woman cooking a fish lok at you surprised. She grabs kitchen knife and cry No. Not yet. It is a mistake! I only recieved token two days ago!

OOC:
Thanks for the info on the names. I was not expecting a big reveal or anything, but thought it was worth a shot;)

Ah yes, sorry, I was confused as to what happened to who, and what was shared, so I started taking notes. Yendil already knew there were seven, and Tonby and Yendil have learned about a third merchant prince named Ekene-Afa, former gladiator turned trader and politician. Maybe he can learn about the others and their field of responsibility on the way back to the inn? Or just ask the bartender about them.
Yendil holds his arms and empty hands stretched out before him, lowering them slowly to reassure the woman they come without violent intent. In the most calming tone he can muster, Yendil says "Hold on! Please calm yourself before anyone gets hurt, we are not here to do anything to you! I'm sorry for entering without knocking. My friends here heard about a missing dress supplier called Razira, so I was a bit worried and entered without caution. We are only here to find out more about her. We were told that this is her house. Who are you, and what is this token you mentioned?"

Larsie relaxes her posture and does her best to appear as un-intimidating as possible.

"I made a promise to a merchant at the Red Bazaar that I would try to determine what happened to Razira and they suggested this house as a starting point. As my friend said, we are not here to harm anyone, we're just looking for Razira."
Oct 12, 2024 3:28 pm
Elster sees that the others seem to have the situation in hand, and for now does nothing. But he is ready to intercede if the woman does attempt an attack

@szemely you did great, but please take a look at this you may be surprised how easy it is to roll in gamersplane
I am Razira. You... all of you came to...? she don't believe you at start as you keep explaining situation her slowly knife lowers until falls on the ground and she burst in tears, her body shaking despite it is still very hot in the house.
I'm sorry for my behavior, but put yourself in my shoes. Four strangers so late in the evening... she calms down and when Yendil asks again about the token she shows the token to you:
[ +- ] token
She explain: recently she bought some dancing monkey fruit on the black market and used them to make and sell dye. Shortly thereafter, she received the iron token from the Ytepka Society—a grim warning. She wishes to atone for his crime and were seeking an audience with Kwayothé, the merchant prince who controls the legal sale of fruit. I spend whole day at the Goldenthrone, but Kwayothé never invited me to a conversation. He is either busy or just ignorant to a poor dyeing woman. How could beg for Kwayothé’s forgiveness if he ignores me?
Oct 14, 2024 10:44 am
"Yeah, I can see why you would be intimidated by us, I'm sorry we've scared you. What is this Ytepka Society? And what does it mean to receive this token? It looks and sounds scary." Yendil says with an anxious smile.
Oct 14, 2024 5:39 pm
"Maybe I misunderstood the situation, but merchant at the bazaar made it seem as though you had been missing for some time. Was it just today that you weren't able to make it to the market?"
Oct 14, 2024 8:07 pm
"If we can get Kwayothé’s ear, we'll try to plead your case. But it would help if we knew what you were offering him. Were you planning to beg for forgiveness, or offer some sort of compensation?
Also, I'm curious why you didn't aquire the fruit through legal means? No judgement, I understand you have a job to do.
Oct 15, 2024 9:09 am
Ytepka Society is a secret organization and I know little about them, but knew some of merchants' got the token after continuous dealing on black market or other illegal activities. The few who are still alive paid a high price.
She thinks she was simply unlucky to be noticed because she only once purchase the illegal fruit. But you realize that her understanding of the meaning of the token and the punishment to be expected is limited, but it can't be coincidence for it to appear right after the illegal purchase.

Dancing monkey fruit is magical fruit - any humanoid that eats a dancing monkey fruit or drinks its juice begin a comic dance that lasts for 1 minute. Kwayothé classified it as a poison and thus illegal to buy or sell. she explains, adding that the magical essence is secretly know to improve colors.

I'm sorry I had to deliver to Omala yesterday but were just too afraid to show up there after receiving the token.
OOC:
Not sure if it was my mistake, but I intended she to only be missing 2 for days.
She explains that she has nothing to offer as compensation. Since her husband died she had problems to pay for house rent. That was actually reason to take risk and buy the forbidden fruit.
Oct 15, 2024 3:30 pm
"What more can you can tell us about this Kwayothé, perhaps we can strike a bargain with him on your behalf," Tonby says firmly. "Turning over the one who sold you the fruit may be the best chance you have at leniency."
Oct 15, 2024 9:34 pm
Larise makes a mental note "Another question for Syndra, surely she will know something of this Ytepka society." while waiting to hear Razira's comments on Kwayothé.

Would you be so kind to meet me at Goldenthrone tomorrow - we may be able to talk to Kwayothé himself. You can strike a bargain with him there.
She share: the palace serves as the meeting place for the merchant princes of Port Nyanzaru and is recognized as the seat of the city’s loose government. Goldenthrone is the best place to meet any of the merchant princes without an Merchant' Princess appointment.

But she totally disagree with the plan "Turning over the one who sold you the fruit", explaining that black market is kind of mafia and she will sure be soon dead if they even have a suspicion.
Oct 16, 2024 6:47 am
Tonby didn't like the sound of that. "Then we focus on what we can offer Kwayothé, our services."
Oct 16, 2024 9:29 am
Yendil is getting more careful and reserved talking to Razira. It's his first day in this city, and before he's even well and adjusted to the climate, he is finding himself wanting to bargain for forgiveness of someone who committed a crime. How minor and circumstantial the crime even was, a secret and dark society is after this woman, and his group is about to get sucked in. Even though it seems to be the right thing to do, he wants to check in with Syndra about this whole ordeal, before making promises they can't keep. "To be honest Razira, this is a lot. I think we need to have a discussion within our group as to what we can do for you. One thing I could promise, is that we can relay this information, or just parts of it at your discretion, to Omala, the merchant at the Red Bazaar. As a resident and part of the community, they may be of better assistance than our group of foreigners?" Yendil says with the most reassuring smile he can muster in this heat.
Oct 16, 2024 3:57 pm
"I think that would be best." Larsie says, agreeing with Yendil's sentiment.

"If we're not careful we could very well cause more trouble for everyone involved."
Oct 16, 2024 4:28 pm
I understand. Razira sounds like she lost hope for your help, but don't judge. Thanks for checking on me anyways. I will pay a visit to red bazaar tomorrow morning to share details with merchants waiting for my ware.
OOC:
Let me know if anyone want to continue this scene or you let Razira to have her dinner.
In any case - anything else you still want to do tonight or you are looking forward to have your Long Rest ?

Even for untrained aye Razira's body language gives out she is stressed and behaves unnaturally. You could guess it is net because she is very poorly trying to hide here hidden agenda, but because she is indeed afraid.
OOC:
So, let me see - why are you asking insight check on here as a player? Do you expect she try to extort you? But she don't ask for money... Do you thin she is misleading you with any info?

If it was not clear from my first person messages her knowledge of the token and the secret society is based on rumors and she did not try to hide that. Similar with black market. Reading is she lie or not would not help you - it would actually mislead you as a player, because she is probably is misleading you with wrong info believing it to be true.

Now, feel free to roll and insight (with disadvantage of course) DC 10 for your PC to understand what I've shared above with you as player.
Oct 17, 2024 9:25 am
OOC:
That's why I started with the question if Yendil believes Razira. If you as a DM rule that he simply does, than no insight is required.
Her reliability is something we haven't checked, but only took for face value. Regarding a secret society, black market, mafia, I wouldn't put it past an organization like that to have shady ways to lure unexpected adventurers into their control. So in a maybe worst case scenario, she could be an agent with the task to trick gullible people into their trap.

But as I said at the start. If you say that we undoubtedly believe her, that is a viable answer as a DM, and I'm happy to accept that!
Oct 17, 2024 3:10 pm
OOC:
I don't say you undoubtedly believe Razira, bartender or even Syndra. More over I just tried to explain above the way Razira is talking she sounds least trustworthy for two reasons: she behaves stressed and she is not providing you detailed answers on the secret society or black market "because she don't know".
However all she asked you is to come to accompany her to the government building. I would like to believe that government building is not the best place for anyone to set up the trap for random travelers, that's why I was surprised .

Starting to feel uncomfortably warm in her full armor, and with nothing more to say, Larsie will follow Elster's lead and head towards the door.

"I think I've had enough for today..."

Walking out with Elster and Larsie "I agree, let's head back to Kaya's and get some sleep."

Party head back toward the inn. Path lie through the red bazaar where they see business has concluded and only few last merchants are cleaning up their tables. The one who pointed you at Razira by a chance if one of them.

You also notice brightly painted dinosaurs moving from west gates through the city. Each dinosaur is led by a chultan.

At the inn: bar is unusually empty and bartender explain that most patrons left to watch dinosaur race and is surprised you are not.

While heading back to Kaya's for a well earned rest, Larsie spots the merchant that she had purchased her dress from earlier in the day and walks over to them. Not wanting to give up too many details about Razira's situation, simply says.

"My friends and I have found Razira. She is safe and you'll most likely be hearing from her in a few days time."
While Larsie has obviously never seen a dinosaur race it's not something she overly excited about going out of her way to watch.

"I think I'll pass on the races. It's time for me to get some much needed rest."

She gives the bartender a weak smile and heads up to her room.
Oct 21, 2024 5:54 am
Tonby takes note of the Dinosaur racing but disregards it for the time being as he is tired and wishes to rest. He will return to the Inn, get cleaned up and go to bed.

"I certainly don't have anything planned beforehand." Larsie responds, still a bit tired after an uncomfortably warm night's sleep. Deciding it best to try and fit in with the locals she has left her armor and weapons in her room, and is wearing the dress she purchased the day before.

"There might be a few more items that could be helpful to pick up in the market. Perhaps I'll stop by the Sune temple afterwards to see if the head priest has any insight that may be of use."
OOC:
Larsie will hand the bartender a gold coin right before leaving for the day.
Oct 21, 2024 10:30 pm
"Yes, I think another night in this inn sounds perfect," Yendil says to the bartender as he hands him a gold coin. "While I have your attention, I've been hearing about these merchant princes. As a local, what can you tell us about them? We've heard that there are seven of them, and we've learned the names of Wakanga O'tamu, Jabal, Ekene-Afa, and Kwayothé, but what are the names of the other three? And I believe they have their own special departments, is that correct?"

After the bartender has left the table, Yendil says to the others in the group "We could try to find a solution to the strife of Razira, look into Artus Cimber that Larsie and Elster heard about, we could try to find information about or from this Priest of Torm, or find a guide for the expedition into the wilderness. I think we should tread carefully, but I kind of want to see what we can do for Razira."
Oct 22, 2024 7:53 am
Tonby will give the Bartender another gold piece and tips him a silver before he departs their table, "A gold for the room and a silver for yourself my good man."

He then turns to the others, "Those are well and good ideas but the fact of the matter is we have a mission to complete that comes first and diverting our attention to much may cost us. Though, talking to the priests of Torm might help us because they do have knowledge about the dangers we will face in the jungle. They also run an outpost deep in the jungle called camp Vengeance that may be of some interest to us. We just need to be careful about getting to involved with local matters."

@szemely do you really mean temple of Sune and why do you thing there is a head priest in that temple? Yesterday you visited temple of temple of Savras (the got your PC worship).

I think you can call that "department" bartender laughs hearing Yendil's assumption. Don't you have oligarchs in your home city?
He name and explain 3 more merchant princess trying to impress you with epic description and exaggerations, explaining that most capable business man/woman of most profitable business areas established a control eliminating gang wars between concurrent families.

Without taking notes you can barely remember the names and approximate business are of 3 more oligarchs and the businesses they control are those:
Jessamine - poison and assassination
Ifan Talro'a - beasts and beast training
Zhanthi - jewelry and cloth

As you talk among yourself you notice a heavy raining outdoors. It doesn't make temperature drop though and only make you seat more due to dense humidity. But residents of Port Nyanzaru seem to pay little attention to the rain and continue their daily routine as usual.
OOC:
What do you do today? You have like 8 hours before meeting with Syndra.
Oct 22, 2024 5:47 pm
"Who wishes to accompany me to the Temple of Torm?" Tonby was full from breakfast and ready to get this day going.
Oct 22, 2024 7:57 pm
Larsie is torn. While she had been looking forward to visiting the Sune temple, the reason for doing so was for her own curiosity under the guise of possibly learning something that might help with the mission. And while she feels empathetic towards Razira's problems, they are not hers to solve, especially given her unfamiliarity with local authorities and customs.

"I suppose the Sune temple can wait for now; I'll go with you to the temple. Perhaps we can learn more of this outpost and if it can be of some use to our cause."
OOC:
Larise _was_ interested in the Sune temple, as she enjoys learning about other religions and beliefs. She doesn't know if there would be a head priest there are not, she was basing that on her past experiences at other temples she's visited.

Elster is waiting to see what information the bartender offers about the merchant princes. That's gap in his knowledge he would like to fill.
After that he will reply to Yendil; "I would at least like to try and help Razira. I'll join you if everyone doesn't mind switching dance partners for the day."
Oct 23, 2024 9:04 am
"Not like this we don't."
OOC:
I as a player have no idea of the political system of Baldur's Gate, but I doubt it's comparable.
"But it does make more sense to me now, so thank you for that explanation."
"Haha, gladly, I think we're gonna spend a lot more time together on this island before we're done, so let's switch it up!" Yendil says to Elster as he amicably grabs him by the shoulder. "Where should we dance towards? I was thinking of trying to find at least a little bit more information about that secret society, but outside of Syndra, I have no clue where to start. We could request an early meeting with her, but maybe you have a better idea?"
Oct 23, 2024 5:38 pm
"We will have to ask around about where the Temple or Priests of Torm congregate, I doubt they have a Temple District like they do back home," Tonby says firmly. He knew it wasn't going to be that simple.
Oct 23, 2024 6:37 pm
"I thought you knew where the temple was?" Larsie exclaims. "Well, we best be off then! The sooner we can start asking around the better. And who knows what other pieces of useful knowledge we may learn along the way."

Before heading out with Tony, Larsie will ask the group.

"Do we want to meet up back here before heading to Syndra's? I'd like to change into my kit before meeting with her."
Oct 23, 2024 8:18 pm
"The bartender is fairly informed, I will see if he knows and if not we can ask around the bazaar," Tonby says calmly then heads over to speak with bartender.

"Excuse me, my good sir, do you know if there is a temple of Torm in the city or a place Torm's priests regularly gather?" He asks the man plainly.
Oct 23, 2024 9:46 pm
Bartender assure you there is no official temple of Torm in the city, but have no idea if there would be a place of regular gathering. You would have to "ask around".
OOC:
So, Larsie is going to temple of Sune, while Tonby will be trying to figure out how to find Torm's priests of his interest. Is that correct and what are the rest of you doing?
Would Yendil be requesting early meeting with Syndra?
Would Elster be going to Goldenthrone to assist Razira?
Will Ren be staying another day "in bed"?

@TatharCiryatan Not digging deep into Baldur's gates politics, your PCs will gradually realize how much broken the politics/law situation is in this city. If you invest learning city history we could together research reasons for the situation. While knowing the reasons will not provide useful to any of the side quests, it may be fun to explore

While still waiting for other players to confirm their plan, let's proceed with Tonby + Larsie already as it may take quite few posts for you to do what I believe your PCs could achieve
Tonby and Larsie are asking around the Red Bazaar, but most merhants seeing you are not interested in purchasing goods avoid longer conversation with you and throw at you short answers like "I don't know". You could notice their attitude were completely different when you were trying to buy clothes.
OOC:

Oct 24, 2024 7:56 pm
"While we're here I may as well pick up a few things."

Larsie scans the bazaar for any merchant that looks like they may sell general adventuring supplies or possibly weapons. "A nice dagger might come in handy while in the jungle."

Once she spots a place that looks like it may have what she wants, she motions to Tonby to follow her.

"Maybe spending some coin will loosen some tongues."

Ren will be picking up more appropriate jungle attire.
Oct 25, 2024 3:15 am
"I think we should at least try the direct approach. Let's see just how hard it is to get a meeting with Kwayothé’s. When that doesnt work, we can start digging for secrets." Elster replies to Yendil.
Oct 25, 2024 10:28 am
OOC:

I think it would be nice to let Ren help Larsie and Tonby because he is into buying stuff at the bazaar
I will narrate Elster and Yendil day activities when I see players describing them, no rush there yet. Feel free to post Ren, Larsie or Tonby participating conversation with Elster and Yendil before the events I'm describing below, we will have those two timelines in parallel.
Red Bazaar
Just when Larsie suggest to spend some money Tonby notices Ren in the market and they join him to both suggest best prices/clothes and to have a chat with merchants. Chatting is easier now as they are buying, but merchants are only able to share with you that any Torm worshipers would have buy travelling equipment and move into the jungles to fight undead but has not been seen practicing any ceremonies in the city.

As you keep talking you suddenly notice an outstanding character coming from Thundering Lizard (the cheaper Inn suggested by Syndra yesterday). Tonby recalls bartender saying "finding this person wouldn't be a problem" and he understand now what he was meaning:
A taller than usual humans half-orc woman in a chain shirt on top of her vestments making her movement loud. Torm symbols are well visible on her vestments.

OOC:
I/Yendil would like to explore into Port Nyanzaru/Chult, but we've got more on our to do list. Maybe that is something that Yendil will casually pick up on every now and then, and I'll try to not let it overshadow the other stories :)
"Dear bartender whom I've not yet asked the name of, what is your name? I mean, you've become almost our main supplier of general information and nourishment, and I haven't given you the courtesy of asking for your name. My name is Yendil Sartoris." Finishing the conversation with the bartender, Yendil would also ask a quick physical description of the merchant princes, which could come in handy as he is heading to Goldenthrone.
"Shall we all meet here at Kaya's again over dinner, before heading to the meeting with Miss Syndra, to share what we've discovered this day?" Yendil says to the party before everyone heads off into their own missions.

"Alright Elster, sounds good! Lets go to the Goldenthrone and find Kwayothé. Do you know where that is, or should I've asked directions from the bartender?"
Oct 25, 2024 4:24 pm
My name is Trakungank, but you can call me Trak. Bartender introduces and explain that he hear a lot but see little - he have never seen any merchant prince in person. More over he sounds flattered you like how much info he provides (he explain that is part of his job description - unlike the cheaper inn on the other side of Red Bazar, this inn provides wide service to his patrons.

Following detailed instructions Elster and Yendil return to the docks they arrived yesterday and rise to the hill, pass the temple of Temple of Savras and reach a bridge connecting with other hill. That's when you finally reach Goldenthrone - one of the most opulent structures in the city, rivaled only by the grander temples and the merchant princes’ villas (you see a few of them on both hills).

Although it's unlikely that Tonby somehow missed the half-orc leaving the Thundering Lizard, she nonetheless gives him a nudge with her elbow and motions towards woman.

"I'll let you do the talking."
Oct 25, 2024 10:00 pm
"Hello, my name is Elster, and i didn't mean to offend." he says, gesturing to the mace on his hip."Is there somewhere safe to store this while we speak to Kwayothé?"

Elster. None of the Merchant Princes arrived yet. You have a plenty of time to take care of your weapons. We provide no storage service. guard reply in official voice and add casually with a smirk Why would you need a weapon inside city walls anyways?

Tonby will approach the Half-Orc women, "Greetings, my name is Tonby and I was hoping to have a moment of your time, I was told you were heading out into jungle and just wanted to ask a couple of questions." Tonby is firm and direct. "Of course I will make it worth your time. Food and drink for just a few quick questions and a few silver for the alms box to aid in your good work fighting the undead."

"I guess that I'm just used to grabbing my kit before I leave the door. Wasn't really thinking about it. But apparently we've been walking through this rain for nothing, and that sucks. Ah, well, lets drop our stuff at the inn, and we could be back again within the hour."
Back at the inn, Yendil walks up to Trak and says with a smile. "Let me return the service, we just learned something. Apparently, you can't bring weapons into Goldenthrone. It was easy to find though. Anyway, we're gonna store this in our room, and head back out there."

Elster just sighs as he damply heads up to his room to leave his shield and mace. He comes back down, refill his waterskin, and waits for Yendil to be ready to head back out into the rain.
Oct 26, 2024 11:27 pm
Yendil drops his rapier and dagger in his room, and joins Elster. Back at the guard at Goldenthrone, he asks as he shows that he is unarmed "Hey remember us from a few minutes ago? Did Kwayothé arrive in the mean time?"
Oct 26, 2024 11:48 pm
Not that I would see fit to rush Kwayothé, but we have a meeting at Wakanga's this afternoon." Elster adds

I'm Undril Silvertusk. Can't resist such the proposal. I understand this is more than a few questions, so should we fo do that at the Thundering Lizard, not staying in the heavy rain? she point back toward the inn she came from.
OOC:
I can't stop drawing associations with cops knocking to suspect's door or bad guys holding a gun saying " just wanted to ask a couple of questions". I will assume the tone is differen here though LOL
Goldenthrone
Kwayothé not arrived yet, no. You can enter now. He steps aside and and switch back to official tone Behave! and makes a gesture meaning "I'm watching you".

As you enter the building you soon find seven decorated doors with a bronze plaque fixed next to each. One name on each (name of each prince). A large double door with no plaque and some well decorated chairs all around. Only few chairs are occupied. Razira stand up from a chair as she notice you. Thanks you so much for coming. You did come to help me, didn't you?
Oct 27, 2024 9:21 am
"Pleasure to meet you Undril, please, lead the way," Tonby says trying to be as cordial as possible as gestures for Larsie to join them. "This is my associate, Larsie." He wants Undril to be receptive.

OOC:
@Azule86 @szemely I'm not sure I'm best DM to provide NPC language flavor to enjoy, so let's get string to the action, go on and ask the questions you have
At Thundering Lizard
Undril explain Halfing bartender that you will need a table for 3 and you get a table in a quite corner. Undril asks for glass of water and explain to you she just got her free breakfast, but you could feel free to order food. Undril urge you to ask your questions and seems unexpectedly interested hearing them
Oct 28, 2024 5:43 am
Tonby will also order a glass of water and sit so he can see the entire room from their table. "Well, where to begin," he says pondering where to actually start then figures he should start at the beginning. "First, I must ask, have you heard of what people from the Sword Coast are calling the death curse, the affliction effecting people who have been raised from the dead?" He sips his water. "There are those that believe it is connected to these lands and the Undead outside the city. We were hoping you or maybe the other priests of Torm might have some knowledge of it that could be beneficial to us in seeking its source."
Oct 28, 2024 5:21 pm
Undril Silvertusk
Connection to Chult? First time hear that. Undril is surprised but she knows about the curse. I am not us much worried about people who once denied their death. I wonder what happens to the soul if a priest can.'t reach them. What will happen to my and your soul?
Oct 28, 2024 6:10 pm
Razira says:
Thanks you so much for coming. You did come to help me, didn't you?
Elster answers as he looks at the various doors; "We came to try yes. We'll see what we can do in the limited time we have. Has Kwayothé arrived yet? Do we just . . . wait here?
Oct 28, 2024 8:06 pm
Larsie listens intently to Tonby and Undril while they talk. Keeping quiet and sipping on her water while the two chat she only feels the need to jump in once Undril ponders how the curse may affect one's soul.

"If we are able to find the source of the curse and stop it, when the time comes, our souls will find rest. I have no intention of leaving Chult until this has been accomplished; but this won't happen without the help of others."
Oct 29, 2024 6:29 am
Tonby listens then responds, "We would not be here if there were not those who believed there was connection. As for our souls, I do not fear what is beyond this life. I do fear what will happen to my beloved should we fail." He takes a long drink of his water. "Have you or any of the priests heard or seen anything in recent months that might be a possible clue. Something you do not consider important. Like a new set of ruins being discovered or something somebody found that struck you as odd at the time but wasn't out there enough to question?"

Tonby figured if she couldn't help them directly, maybe one of the other priests could help. There was also Camp Vengeance. He hadn't gotten to those questions just yet.
Oct 29, 2024 6:50 am
Undril Silvertusk
That's very honorable of you, I wish you best of luck and send my prayers for you. We all have our own destiny, mine is to help cleanse undead who have been roaming the land for a century.
Undril sends her best wishes to Larsie, but there is little chult event knowledge she can share with you, answering Tonby: I'm not sure you picked the right person to question. You see - I've only arrived at port Nyanzaru with a ship few days ago. Though talking about ruins... she share with you following story:

When the Order of the Gauntlet first brought its war against undead to Chult, its members established this base camp around an ancient Chultan shrine. The shrine wasn’t the focus of the order’s activity, but it was an object of intense curiosity. Despite being in ruins, the shrine’s traps were still active, and they overcame the order’s attempts to reach the heart of the shrine.

The overconfident visitors neglected to build defenses around the camp, believing that their own strong arms were sufficient protection. A couple months ago, they were proved tragically wrong when hundreds of undead swarmed out of the jungle and overran the camp.

Those who scaped the undead onslaught retreated up the River Soshenstar. Three days later, they ended their retreat by digging in on this spot. Eventually they got word of their situation back to Port Nyanzaru, and they’ve since been reinforced. Their original, small camp has been transformed into a fortified base far more capable of withstanding attack than Camp Righteous ever was.

Undril came a part of reinforcement throw to complement Camp Vengeance forces.
OOC:
Note You can find Camp Vengeance on Syndras' map, she has obviously heard at least part of the story Undril just told you
Oct 29, 2024 7:09 am
OOC:
Does the timeframe of the destruction of Camp Righteous match up with when the death curse started?
Oct 29, 2024 7:31 am
OOC:
It does not. As I started in intro chapter "For the past several days, the talk of the streets and taverns has all been about the so-called death curse"
At least a notable manifestation of the curse started no more that a week from now.
Events at Camp Righteous are described as "a couple months ago"
Oct 29, 2024 1:51 pm
Ren, upon purchasing his jungle attire, will see the others head off to talk with a half-orc and will return to the inn to change. I think that was enough of an outing for one day.
Oct 29, 2024 6:22 pm
OOC:
Okay. I just wanted to check. I think I have one last question.
After hearing the story about Camp Righteous Tonby takes a moment to ponder then asks, "Does the order believe someone or something is controlling the Undead because that sounds like it was a coordinated attack and not just some random mindless horde simply rampaging through the jungle?"
Oct 29, 2024 7:16 pm
Undril Silvertusk
That's what exactly I'm going to help to figure out she beg you not to forget about her should you decide to move up the River Soshenstar, as she don't dare to go into the jungle alone. She will meanwhile be waiting for more of the Order representatives arriving in the city.

Goldenthrone Razira agree - waiting is all we can do for now. After waiting a few hours guard arrives telling you that none of the Merchant Princess seems to be visiting Goldenthrone today, you must try your luck tomorrow.
Razira suggest you to feel free to leave today, though she will wait longer even if there are no changes for prince to arrive. Tomorrow I will be here. she say worried.

Oct 29, 2024 7:44 pm
Elster answers the guard with a question "Where are the Princes now? Not that we don't enjoy your company of course, but we have work to do, and would prefer Razira's issue resolved."
Oct 30, 2024 10:48 am
"I'm sorry that we couldn't be of any service here to you Razira. We are meeting some people later, I wil try to enquire them for any knowledge to help solve your situation. Don't give up, neither will we" Yendil says with a reassuring smile.

Once Elster and Yendil have left the Goldenthrone, a site that apparently won't help us any further "Elster, we could also, before we head to Syndra, enquire about that guide Azaka. I believe we could find him through merchant prince Jabal... Oh, but they won't arrive here today... " Yendil turns back to the guard. "Excuse me again, I found a pamflet yesterday about a guide called Azaka, and with it the contact information to merchant prince Jabal. Do you have any idea how to reach them?"
Oct 30, 2024 2:50 pm
Goldenthrone
Razira assure you she is not about to give up and hope tomeet price tomorrow here at the Goldenthrone. As a matter of fact she double check that with the guard as it appears she don't know much about Goldenthrone's procedures herself. Guard explains that each price would seldom appear in the Goldenthrone. On a typical day one or two of them would be here to accept visitors. Each prince shows up at least once a week.

Yendil's question is answered with some sort of resistance though. Guard agree that merchant prince Jabal is the contact for anything related to guide hiring which is a good reason he as a guard will not get involved. A moment later relaxed he note that it would be best to ask around in either of inns at red bazaar.
OOC:
I don't believe you asked anything about Azakar to the bartender, did you? He would tell that guides seldom show up in the inn looking for customers. When they don't - they are in the jungles usually.
Oct 30, 2024 6:19 pm
"How many more of the Order do you expect to arrive? And when?" Larsie asks.

"Perhaps our two groups could work together should our group decide that this is a promising lead to follow."
Oct 31, 2024 7:11 am
Because of the pirates operating in the sea arriving over sea is troubled and Undril have no idea when to expect more arrivals. Could me days, could be weeks, could me more. That's the reason she is trying to get to the camp on her own.

Yendil spend some time walking around the city and discover
https://i.imgur.com/weLjUNL.jpeg

Traders from up and down the Sword Coast come to this market to buy timber, spices, medicines concocted from jungle plants, dinosaur skulls and claws, iron, tiger pelts, carved ivory, Batiri and grung handiwork, colored feathers, tropical fruit, monkeys, plesiosaur meat, and all the other riches of Chult. Street performers and tabaxi minstrels add to the cacophony. Colorful awnings protect the market from sun and rain but also trap the heat and smells.

There is also a large building separated from your inn by a wall but could only be accessed by a wide stone bridge connecting it to the Grand Coliseum

https://i.imgur.com/IKHvvKt.jpeg

For whatever reason whoever told you about the temples in the city didn't mention this temple. Perhaps because locals call it just Hall of Gold. And never temple to Waukeen, which it actually is.
This magnificent structure is called Hall of Gold for its shining, golden roof and for Waukeen’s focus on trade and wealth. Mount Sibasa is the highest point in the city, and when the sun is shining, light glinting off the temple roof can be seen for miles out at sea.

Being confronted by the guards at merchant prince Jabals requirements to ask about a guide, he quickly backs off, and will try his luck with Trak at Kaya's. Walking through the city he takes in all the sights. The Grand Souk in all it's liveliness, a place that makes Yendil's heart pound faster in excitement. Being out of the rain he casually walks through the market, giving a silver coin to two tabaxi minstrels who are playing a happy upbeaet song, and another one to the street performer that was juggling swords with so much finesse, that he stopped and stared for a while.

"The Hall of Gold. Even out in this heavy rain it is impressive. Might get a closer look when the sun is out again."

At Kaya's Yendil walks up to the bar "Hey Trak, unfortunately we had no luck meeting with Kwayothé. Apparently they seldom visit the Goldenthrone, but it still seems to be the best place to get an unscheduled meeting with them. By the way, yesterday, we found a poster of a guide called Azaka, have you seen them or heard about them in the neighbourhood?"
Nov 3, 2024 11:34 am
While traveling through the city you come harbormaster’s office

Trak share you that each guide regularly visit the inn (when not hired/travelling) and suggest that tonight you may meet at least few of them (due to weather). He also promise to let Azaka know you are looking for her, should she come while you are not at the inn, but he guess guides will be late (after you return from Synda's visit)
