Anton holds the iron bar and observes the second attempt.
OOC:
Just for your information, my character can theoretically grant luck tokens by casting bless. So, maybe, don’t hesitate to use the token on natural 1s, since they can result in increased stress levels…

Clarence, watching Tibor struggle with the bar, casually reaches over and tries himself.

Surprisingly, the bars prove resistant even to "the body" himself!

That's good to know! I dont know if i could use it retroactively, but it is probably okay for my character to take the crit fail for now. I'm sure we will need some blessings more later on.

Varos holds his mothers perfume bottle as he thinks fondly about her. Why is this here and what for he ponders.
OOC:
I will stash the perfume bottle safely and would have grab the candle and matches while grabbing the bottle.

The description is that once the illusion/phantasm disappeared, all we saw was the skeleton and Tarot card. Which implies the candles and matches were part of the illusion as well. I guess I misunderstood. Assume that if the candles and matches were real, Clarence would have grabbed them before looking at the smoldering card, please.
OOC:
Ah, I understand. The candle and matches were not an illusion, I was just saying retroactively someone should have grabbed them but just didn't mention that in their post. Since Clarence approached first it makes sense he grabbed them. Add them to your sheet please.

OOC:
Nat 1s make the character lose a luck token so that's usually the only result they can't re-roll unless they have more than 1 luck token.

OOC:
Because of the nature of PbP being asynchronous, I will allow some rolls retroactively if it makes sense. I don't know if Anton would use a spell just to help pull out a bar. Remember, a failed roll means you lose the spell for the rest of this adventure so make sure they count lol.

OOC:
Clarence mentioned he grabbed the candle and matches first. But for getting a Trinket, you gain a 1d6 hit die which you need to roll and add it immediately to your max and current hp.
OOC:
Nat 1s increase the Stress Level by 1, but finding a Trinket reduces it by 1, so it's a wash.

The lit candle they found is burning low, with maybe a quarter of an hour left to go before it is entirely consumed. The flooded dungeon lacks anything else of note.

Wading through the chill water to the exit, with proper light, the party can see to the right is a half-submerged gargoyle, wings spread, mouth open. Dark patches stain its tongue. To the left, the corridor disappears out of sight, but the echoes of screams and whipcracks reverberate faintly off the stone walls.

"Try not to exhaust yourselves before we set foot out of the our cell!" Gregory warns the strongmen. The wizard would surely have need of the two fighting men before long, especially if they were to approach the sound of whips!

"Keep trickery at the forefront of your minds! This Count seeks to keep us here! The path most inviting is exactly the path we should most avoid!" Gregory goes on, meaning to approach the sounds of torture!

"We should go left. The gargoyle can wait, whoever is screaming cannot. Who is with me?"

The GM =) Here

Clarence swings his makeshift flail menacingly and follows the little goblin wizard. Right behind you, little one, he says wading cautiously towards the sounds of screaming.
Sep 24, 2024 3:51 am
Tibor finally catches his breath after heaving mightily at the second bar and wades through the water following the others.
Sep 24, 2024 4:52 am
After about sixty feet of wading through the water a wooden, iron-banded door with a heavy metal ring for a handle comes into view at the edge of candelight. The door is slightly ajar. The sound of screams, clinking chains, squeaking wood, and a whipcrack escape from within. As you approach, the sounds suddenly cease at once. You hear nothing but the sloshing of water and breathing from those around you.
Sep 24, 2024 5:13 am
That's bizzare. Little one, you are least likely to be noticed. Here Clarence unwittingly flexes his muscles for an imagined adoring crowd. Can you peek in and see if what we heard was real, or another hallucination like that creepy dead guy with the cards?
OOC:
@htech, Clarence doesn't mean to be rude, but he is a bit self-centered, an egoist, and rather full of himself. Also, your character could probably fit ON one of his pectorals. That being said, if it annoys you the player, I'll happily find another affectation for Clarence to use.
Sep 24, 2024 6:10 am
"Should we suddenly need to retreat, I shall bind the door behind us! Just ensure that you are on this side of it, before I cast my spell!" he warns the others, mentally preparing to beat a retreat back to the gargoyle if they are attacked while weapon-less!
Sep 24, 2024 9:50 am
Varos pulling up the rear is still wondering how the count got that perfume bottle. He wonders to if his mother is alright. The sudden stop of the sounds bring him back. "Another illusion?"

OOC:
@Avraham no problems. It doesn’t annoys me. =)

It may bother Frac, but we will play to see what happens.
"Unlike my brothers, I am clumsy and not even a little sneaky. But I am smart and powerful. That's usually more than enough." - he says while casting an Invisibility spell on himself.

Assuming he succeeds, Frac will look inside.

Frac utters mystical words and his body vanished from sight. However there is a large, disturbing hole in the water where is body has displaced it. The void of water moves forward as he approaches the door.

Opening the door Frac sees a torture chamber beyond. All manner of torture devices lay partially submerged. Yellowed bones still inhabit some of these devices. But what catches your eye is a ten foot high stone balcony at the far end of the room with a red curtain at the back. There is a single tall iron candlestick as tall as a human with a lit candle between a pair of high-backed chairs. The candle reveals a cloaked figure sitting in one of the chairs. As the door opens he stands and calmly glides behind the red curtain. The candle snuffs out.

Oh, Frac. I didn't realize that.
Frac opens the door for the group to see and explain what happened.
