The Castle - B2

Hefting the bag, Gregory is surprised at its lightness. It neither clinks nor jingles. In fact, it rustles and crunches. Then it hits him, this pouch looks familiar! It's not a money pouch at all, but a tobacco pouch that belonged to his family!
OOC:
Gregory found a Trinket. Describe its importance and roll 1d4 to add to your max and current hp. And add it to your character sheet. Edit: whoops, trinkets are 1d6, not 1d4, but let's keep your higher result lol.

"Oh…" the man says, suddenly a million miles away. The familiar waft of tobacco hits the man’s nose, and suddenly he sees his father there in the sloshing, damp depths of the castle.

For how long had his parents broken their backs for Gregory to afford his life of luxury in the city?…

How long had the scent of the leaf sat beneath his fingertips, reminding him of their toil as he bought his books and scrolls and arcane implements?…

Quote:
when you describe the figure’s movement as gliding, is it literal or figurative?
Quote:
As for the figure, Anton didn't see it so its however Frac wants to describe it. Whichever description sounds scarier and more mysterious is good haha.
The goblin’s voice is low and cautious as he replies to Anton’s question. "Yes, I think he was literally gliding," Frac mutters, his small, sharp eyes darting around the dark room as if the figure might suddenly reappear. "Like... floating in the air." His brow furrows slightly. "No footsteps, no sound... just moving, like a shadow slipping across the wall."

Frac then grabs a rope and adds a hook to it. He goes to investigate the area of concentrated bubbling about two feet wide in one corner of the room hoping that the cloaked figure does not returns.

Tibor takes the light hammer, clutching it tightly in his hand. I guess you can have that iron bar after all, he says to Anton, giving him the bar he previously ripped out.

My name is Tibor by the way, he says to the group. Stairs leading up sound appealing. I wouldn't mind getting out of this water. Although I'm not sure I'd want to run into that ghost... He says with a shiver.
Sep 25, 2024 2:32 pm
Clarence watches everyone scurry about. He stayed in the middle of the room, twirling his new staff, imagining hordes of adoring fans watching him. Wizard Frac, any thoughts about that bubbling oozing pudddle in the corner? Looks nasty!
Sep 25, 2024 6:48 pm
Anton took part in the search and observed what the others were finding and seeing. He could have used the hammer, but an improvised iron rod could certainly serve as a mace, or club of sorts. The lighting they had was clearly insufficient. He thought he ought to try and produce more light to facilitate their escape.

‘Madeera willing’, he had said earlier. It was time to ask his goddess for her assistance.

Clutching his holy symbol in one hand, he began intoning the prayer of orderly luminescence while gesturing at the tip of the iron rod. As he finished his prayer he opened his hand and moved it forward in an unsheathing movement.
OOC:
Theoretically that’s a success. But maybe the cursed castle plays by its own rules…

Varos will drop back down and grab the dagger and stick it in the built in sheath in his boot. "As far as I could see it was just stairs in the balcony. Any other exits down here?"
Sep 26, 2024 12:22 am
As Frac approaches the bubbles, it seems like trapped air escaping from somewhere on the floor under the water. Feeling around he knocks something loose and it bobs to the surface. A corpse surfaces! Frac is even more horrified when the corpses eyes open and it's mouth of broken teeth yawn wide and it lunges at the unsuspecting wizard! Luckily the zombie is waterlogged and bloated and too slow to catch the wizard...this time.

OOC:
Combat! Zombie attacked first, PCs are up in whatever order you post! SL goes up by 1, so all DCs will be 11 for now. The light hammer is 1d6 damage, dagger is 1d4. The Light spell is bright enough to brighten the whole room, luckily for everyone!

I don’t want to lose burning hands, so I’ll let the fighters take whacks at it first!
"Keep back!" Gregory calls to the goblin wizard, wincing as the thing grasps for the goblin with murderous intent!

He has a spell for such an occasion, but it was a risky proposition with some much wet and slime about! The flames may not catch properly…
Sep 26, 2024 12:39 am
Varos seeing the zombie lunge out of the water will pull his dagger and throw it . Missing terribly Varos keeps his eye on the dagger so he can recover it. Must have been all that time hanging from the fetters, That has to be it.

FEAR THE MUSCLES OF CLARENCE "THE BODY" BODIUEX rings out as the musclebound fighter charges with all the grace of a wounded rhinoceros. Clarence lashes out with his off-balance staff.
OOC:
I never picked a weapon for mastery, but if I did, it wouldn't have been a staff. I'll select greatsword now, as that fits with Clarence's choosing the heaviest weapon to use. Even with the -1, the to hit is +5 (+4 STR, +2 from rolled talents, -1 as described. See my sheet for the calculations, please.

Pausing for attack roll
Clarence a solid blow on the shambling, water-logged corpse. Take that you putrid corpse! You have run into "the body" and now you will die. Again, I guess. For the second, or third, or HOWEVER many time!

Tibor hefts his newly acquired hammer in the air and lets out a battle cry as he charges the zombie.
OOC:
I chose sword and spear for my weapon masteries so that doesn't apply. Forgot to add my +2 but still misses.
Struggling to get in a good position due to the water, Tibor swings the hammer wide of the zombie. whoosh

Clarence lands a solid blow on the zombie's torso with a sickeningly wet crunch. It's chest caves inward noticeably and if this were a living human he is sure blood would be pooling inside its chest cavity. As its fluids have long since coagulated, it merely staggers a step and lets out a moan as it clings to unlife.

If I lose this spell, I will be a man of words, and not action, for the game!
"Make way! Make way!" Gregory commands, as he steps forward and pulls his hands in close to himself! Even then, fire begins to lick at his palms, and the heat at his chest begins to rise!

He shoots his hands forward, and lets loose a torrent of fire on the wet, clawing zombie!
OOC:
Nooooooo! The f*#king damage!

Clarence is chomping at the proverbial bit for round two. Magic is nice, but muscles are nicer!!

OOC:
Lol just waiting for Anton's action and then we'll start round 2.
Sep 26, 2024 7:16 pm
Satisfied with the powerful light flowing from the iron bar thank to Madeira’s edict, Anton moved forward to assist in the attack, swinging the light-bearing rod with what little strength he had.

Besides making strange shadows move all around the flooded torture chamber, Anton’s attack was entirely ineffective.
OOC:
Is Anton considered proficient? I’ll just use his talent bonus of +1. If a penalty applies, please deduct from the roll. I’m assuming a d4 for damage… ignore if the bar is not a usable weapon.

EDIT: messed up the roll, and got a critical miss. Anton is indeed cursed!

Attack roll - (1d20+1)

OOC:
Anything is a weapon if you swing hard enough! I don't think there's a proper proficiency mechanic in the game. I think anyone could swing a large stick and it is uniform size and weight so its pretty balanced. The crit is unfortunate however. SL increases by 1, so the DC of all checks is now 11.
Being the last person to attack the waterlogged zombie, the zombie catches the glowing bar to the surprise of everyone, and yanks on the bar, pulling Anton within biting range! Anton is too shocked to let go and is yanked close to the zombie. The thing lunges forward and latches onto Anton's shoulder, taking a large bit of shoulder muscle and flesh.

5 damage to Anton.
OOC:
Round 2, players' turn!
