OOC: 7.2 Ship Shares

OK. This is OOC so we make sure I (the player) know what is going on so I can play Hank correctly.

From what I remember, we decided that the CV doesn't have any "ship shares" in the classic Traveller-esque sense. Primarily because this isn't Traveller and because we didn't think the Captain would be one to operate that way much. Instead, we set up a common fund that would allow us to side invest as a group towards obtaining our own communal Free Trader. Target goal: 1 mee-yun dolla! Uh, I mean, 1 million credits. I know Erin invested and think Mariella invested. Don't remember if Jil did. Hank included some of his own, too, to get it to a nice even number to facilitate an initial purchase. (This doesn't include what anyone else has invested for their own efforts.)

However, I don't remember all of the specifics. Plus the "characters" for Status and Celestial Voyager are no longer visible/present, so I can't see if the information is stored there.

But, anyway, I need to be able to see what we've done thus far to see how to include Douklan (and cash out Peter).

Fixed the Status and Celestial Voyager characters. I didn't make them private, it was probably a bug during the recent Gamersplane database migration/upgrade. Anyway, thanks for letting me know, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed.

Both Erin and Maya invested in the funds for the new ship and Hank completed it, so you bought 2 tons of stuff. Mariella, Peter and Jil did not invest.
That's precisely it. Valeria owns the CV, but you're all saving up to have your own starship. =)

It is important to note that Hank and the other PCs also have their own private credits. I don't know if you also want to buy something else, but for the PCs that don't, I suggest you direct all or at least most of your credits to these funds. Moreover, we are not controlling individual shares in this fund, I am sure it will never be relevant in this game. This will make the bookkeeping easier =)

The funds are available in the Status character sheet and the speculative cargo is in the CV'S.

Last but not least, Peter has shares in Mercer’s company (Therion Provisions Inc. - the one with the refinery). This one we are tracking the shares, but he will sell it cheap for Mercer and/or Hank.

So, on Therion Provisions, it's up to Mercer on how he wants to handle it. Hank is willing to go anywhere between 25 and 45 percent, whichever Mercer is most comfortable with. Regardless, he wants to make sure Mercer has clear control of the concern.

On the ship fund, then it looks like both Erin and Maya have put in 4.5K each. Hank contributed 1K and will add to it as they go along. So, anyone else can join as they desire and contribute what they want. Hank will make sure he increases his "seed" money to at least match Erin and Maya as soon as he can. (Speed is dependent on what he has to do to help buy out Peter from Therion Provisions.)

How much Douklan puts in depends mostly on what his Navy retirement/mustering out fund looks like. He hasn't really had to worry about money for the past twelve years, and so he hasn't paid any attention to his finances. Realizing that is why he's trying to get involved now.

The way I am looking at the Ship's Funds fund is this: Contribute what you want. You are always entitled to your contributed funds, but not any proceeds. So, if you contribute Cr2500, then you can always get your Cr2500 back, but anything earned on that contribution remains with the fund. Looking into the future, ownership shares will be determined by the contribution ratio over time. The specifics will still have to be finalized, but it's good enough for us now.

As for your current finances, you'll have to hash that out with @htech. When that is determine, you can figure out your contribution.

The way I'm looking at the Ship's Funds is this: Contribute whatever you want. The more you give, the faster the group will get their own ship.

Now that everyone is a civilian, there's really no point in getting anything back from the ship's funds. Getting money back is only necessary if your PC isn't going with the group on the ship or if everyone is rich and the game is over.

I think things are much simpler this way, because ownership shares in that ship will only be relevant after we finish the game, so there's no need to track them =)

Fair enough. I do think, however, we need the "rule" that says you can get whatever you contribute just so it is defined. It just seems like an important detail, even if we hopefully never need to use it. The rest of the ambiguity, I'm good with.

I think we should have percentages, otherwise I'm holding my funds till the last minute to buy in on the new ship.

Also how much for the Therion shares?

Okay! I don't wanna track those shares, just the credits and goods, so no problem with you holding those funds till the last minute.

Sure. Peter is just leaving in Englene Station.
Remember that the fund is managed. Right now it has 2 tons of cargo, and it will be sold together with yours. Transferring to the fund or investing yourselves will, usually, get you in the same spot.

Edit: The only difference is that you can spend your money with something else. The fund is just for the ship and its fittings.

I am not opposed to all players basically doing their own investing, and then Hank and the NPCs are segregated on their own. I'm good with that if it makes everyone feel better and feel like they have more control. That works well, too.

As for Therion, if Peter's shares are 6,300 and he has 45%, that means the total investment is 14,000. So, Hank is already in for 1,400 (10%). If he goes to 25%, he needs to contribute pay 2,100. If he goes to 45%, he needs to contribute 4,900. He will definitely do at least 25%. However, we will have to see how things pan out with the sales to see how close to 45% he can get.

As an update on Therion, Hank will go to 25%. This will cost him $2,100 out of his pre-payday total of 2,633. This leaves him with just 533, to which his salary is then added. He will likely want to make some purchases later at Englene Station. (Not here, since they are not staying long and the place sucks.)

Also, this assumes the math from my prior post was all correct. Assuming it is, the above is what I will do.

Then, with the speculation, Hank will just roll the returns of his independent speculation into the Ship's Funds and let it just be one fund, not two. At this point, he is all-in on the Ship's Funds to get a ship at Altairia.
