I don't get how my Self-control was a critical fail or a fail?? She has 3 points in the skill.

Rolls

Initiative - (1d10+2)

(3) + 2 = 5

OOC:
Crit fail is when there equal on the die and odd, irrelevant of bonuses.

Watching her crew's life in danger put a pit In her stomach. She trusted these people which was hard for her. Losing that scared her, though Claire couldn't figure out why it unsettled so much in this moment. There was no time to be over dramatic right now. The hoard of dead were creeping along the field.
OOC:
Ah, okay. That's unfortunate and a little annoying lol.

OOC:
This game is brutal and unforgiving....and we aren't even using the Bust rules which make it harder.

OOC:
Initiative
Ham Bone - 9
Home Run - 6
Loan Shark - 6
Claire - 5

HB you're up first. I haven't had time to add all the combat stuff to the Rules area. If you have a mechanics question, I'll try to respond fast.

We are acting like a bunch of fucking amateurs, Ham-Bone thinks. But Theodore's reassuring presence is calming and refocuses him on the need to protect the crew. Taking a quick sideways glance at his friends, he turns his attention on taking down Casualties. Leveling his rifle, he lines up a shambler in the sights and squeezes the trigger. The butt recoils satisfyingly into his shoulder and the silencer reduces the roar to muffled pfoot.

Rolls

Shoot B - (1d10+2)

(7) + 2 = 9

Shoot R - (1d10)

(2) = 2

Oct 6, 2016 7:36 pm
The bullet whizzes across the field and implodes the rotting face of one of the Casualties in the middle of the mob. A black spray ejects out the back of its head and remains in the air as the body crumples to the floor.
OOC:
One down, eight to go. Run and Shark act simultaneously so either of you go for it.
Oct 6, 2016 11:03 pm
Run remains at the front, waiting for one to get close, waving and attracting them if necessary. The second one gets in swinging distance he lets 'em have it.
OOC:
Balls!

Rolls

Baseball hit(B) - (1d10+3)

(1) + 3 = 4

Baseball hit (R) - (1d10)

(6) = 6

OOC:
You can spend Will to flip the black and red dice.
Oct 6, 2016 11:08 pm
OOC:
They won't get to melee range for 5 rounds. You could move towards them this turn. You're SPD is 3 so you could get within 2 shambles this turn.

Hamish: Updated your combat reference sheet and added it to your last post (or the one before that)
Oct 6, 2016 11:13 pm
OOC:
I'm reluctant to move due to the ground. Run will hold fast as long as the others remain behind him

OOC:
Fair enough. It would be an athletics roll.
Oct 6, 2016 11:44 pm
OOC:
can they retreat without rolling for athletics?
Oct 7, 2016 1:05 am
OOC:
I think that's reasonable. Sure.

OOC:
Initiative
Loan Shark - 6
Claire - 5
Casualties - 0

Next Round
Ham Bone - 9
Home Run - 6

Loan Shark have at it.
Oct 8, 2016 11:35 am
Loan Shark manages to hero it together, but looking down at his noodles arms and small club quickly realises that he's not going to contribute if he just charges in to combat. I should get a gun after this pays out.

He scans the field for something, anything useful. Bidding his time...
OOC:
sharks looking for cover mostly, that or some other advantage. for this turn though he won't act, so I'm taking the ready action.

Rolls

Perception B - (1d10)

(8) = 8

Perception R - (1d10)

(7) = 7

Oct 9, 2016 10:59 am
OOC:
Genisisect: A couple things there, There is Foresight which is like for identifying tactical information, and Awareness which is closer to your traditional Perception roll. Loan Shark doesn't have either so they would both be defaults to their Potentials. So you would roll 1d10 against either INT (for Foresight) or ADP (for Awareness). If the result is less than or equal to your potential, you succeed. For what you're wanting to do, it would be Foresight (INT). Also, this would count as your freebie action.

As far as cover is concerned, the grass is tall enough to hide and it would be stealth rolls if you are trying to just get away from the zombies. Actual cover wouldn't matter here since they can't shoot at you.

For the Ready action, you can choose to either act at the top of next round, or add your Potential to your next roll. Which would you like to do?

Everybody: I thought about it more, if you move your character at less than full speed (I.e., SPD - 1), I won't ask for the athletics roll for the terrain. I think that's a more interesting scene than you guys standing around waiting for like four turns.

Lastly, I'm out of town until late tonight, I won't be posting much until then.

OOC:
Ok, I'll roll against int for some tactical insight.... Failed

The way cover was represented in the text prevented you from being attacked until you were flanked.

I was planning to get the bonus to next roll.

Rolls

In Sight - (1d10)

(4) = 4

Oct 10, 2016 1:04 am
OOC:
Cover is a little unclear to me. That chapter that talks about cover is meant to describe the mechanics of combat between PCs and human NPCs and Casualty combat is covered in the next chapter. Either way, they would have to close to melee distance which is essentially flanking if you're behind cover. I guess the benefit of cover would be that there would be more obvious prey for them to go after and so they'd be less likely to go after you.

Valcos: What's Claire doing?
Oct 10, 2016 4:29 pm
Claire keeps her distance, she only has a hunting knife to inflict any damage. Her call outs to Teddy were short or merely sounds. She was guiding him into a position to kite the Casualties away from Ham. Splitting the mob would be a smart option.
OOC:
While Claire keeps distance she uses Teddy to kite or prepare to kite when close enough.
