Three adventurers meet on the road. After deciding to form a party, they then...well, you get to decide!

There's no set campaign in this game. You're dropped into a standard fantasy world, and then are let loose!

Tired of fighting in forests, and want to explore an icy climate? Pack your winter clothes and head out!

Were you doing quests for the local lord, but have gotten tired of his aristocratic manner? Tell him to kick rocks!

Do you like this one kingdom, but hate this other kingdom? Try to start a war so the crappy kingdom gets put in its place!

Long-term stories will develop based on your actions, but you're not obligated to continue them. You might actually choose to avoid long-term stuff from the very beginning, instead focusing on one-shot style adventures.

What will you do with your Freedom™?

-----------------------------------------

System: D&D 5e (2014)

Character Creation: Start at Level 1. Standard array for stats. Fixed HP gain. No homebrew stuff. Evil alignments allowed, but please don't try to derail everything the party does.

I only own the core books, so I prefer players use only those options. Other official classes/races/etc. will be discussed if a player is truly intent on something else. No Kenders!

Party Size: I'm looking for three players. This party size will give everyone a chance to shine, will speed up the pace of the game, and make it easier for this noobish DM to manage.

Players will discuss what they want to do within the world, and voting will be used if there's no consensus. The party should be prepared to stick together, for obvious reasons.

Vibe/Aesthetic: Standard medieval fantasy setting to start. Vibe will change based on what you do and where you go.

Duration: Since this isn't a pre-planned campaign, there's no set end. However, I plan to get to Level 10. Once we reach that level, we'll discuss whether we want to continue the game.

Post Frequency: I'll be active most days, but you don't have to match my pace. Five posts a week will be fine. If you need a break or have an emergency, contact me.

If you go AWOL for more than seven days, I'll seek a replacement player.

Specialized Software and Resources: None. Played entirely on Gamersplane.

Player Experience Requirements: None needed! In fact, you (yes, you!) probably have more D&D experience than me!

DM Style: My forte is RP, not mechanics. I'm also still an inexperienced DM. If you ever see me do something wacky or flat-out wrong, feel free to discuss it.

I'm not a bloodthirsty DM who pines for TPKs. Expect difficulty to be easy-to-normal, with a few (but only a few) nail-biting encounters thrown in.

Clever RP will get you far. Rule of Cool FTW. But don't think because I'm a super-cool dude that I'll let you do anything you want. Murderhobos will get what they deserve!

I also tend to write meatier posts. If you're looking for a DM with a more breezy style, might want to skip this one.

Leveling: Because I hate numbers, we're using Milestone XP. Expect to level up when you accomplish major goals, or when you accomplish a decent number of smaller ones.

Sexual Content: Intimacy is allowed, but not erotic roleplay. Once the clothes would start coming off, fade to black. Think of what a PG-13 movie would allow. If you have questions, ask me, or just fade to black to be safe.

Darker Stuff: Things like torture, mass killing, and slavery may be present, but there won't be gratuitous descriptions.

Check out the game details here for more info.

To apply, simply talk briefly about your D&D experience, confirm that you can match the pace of play, and submit a character idea. No need to go crazy on this; a few sentences for each is fine.

I'll prioritize users I haven't RPed with before, and then users who are in fewer games.

Hello, I'm interested in this idea. Very experienced player and GM, but I like to be chill about it. Rule of cool is fine with me. I'm also good with the pace described. My initial pitch idea is Half-elf druid, leaning toward Circle of the Land and serving the healer roll for the group.

I am interested. I can usually post every day with an occassional skip. 5 days a week is no problem. I am in a handfull of games, but not in a serious d&d group one yet. I have about 5 years of d&d experience.
And I love the rule of cool.

I don't have a full concept yet, but a young sorcerer just discovering her upcoming magic is a character I like yo play.

Hello there!

I'm interested in this idea also, haven't played a full sandbox game yet, but I have had experience with DnD 5e, specifically 3+ years now. I can do five posts a week easily. Also rule of cool is the way I roll honestly, it's so much fun!

As for character ideas, I kind of want to create a knight (fighter) who uses polearms.

Three players already? Noice! And all your concepts seem like they'll add up to a balanced party.

I'm setting up some stuff for you in the game, and then sending invites.

Closing this now, but if anyone else is interested, reply here and I'll put you on a waiting list.

A player disappeared on us, so we need a replacement.

Game is still in its infancy. Currently, the party is helping a feisty gnome deal with some snobbish youths. You should be able to read the most recent IC posts to get a feel of what's happening.

Party is a stormy sorcerer and a polearm master fighter.

How to apply is stated in the original posting.

I'll leave this open for a few days before deciding on who to pick.

Posting interest! Decades of experience with (almost) all editions of the game. The posting frequency is amiable.

Human paladin or (war) cleric seeks to bring order and good to the Western Gate. Silly kids, let’s protect the masses and bring the hoodlums back in line. Let’s do this!

So, yes, interested.

Edit - Who Killed Harlow Thrumbey was the first CYOA book I read, as a kid. I think it was #9 in the series. /nerdy stuff

Hi,

I am definitely interested. I've been playing D&D for close to 25 years. Two Years ago I switched to Pathfinder 2e mostly in person games (mostly as GM). I can do more than 5 posts a week.

I can play any class and any race as is required. From the party composition so far I see that you're missing a Rogue.

So I would play a Halfling Rogue (thief), with the Street Urchin background, whose goal in life is to get rich and share his wealth with everyone who would share his Ale and a good story.

I wouldn't mind seeing where we would go. I've been playing TTRPGs for a good 35 years, with experience in all versions of D&D except 4E. I admittedly am in a number of games, but most of them are either very slow paced, on hiatus, or are my own games that are acting as repositories. I have about a half dozen active games, and generally pop on once or twice daily. Weekends are a bit hit or miss, but I'm usually good for at least one weekend day as well.

Character concept wise... I was thinking of a half-elf multiclass with Rogue and Paladin. It would -- after a few levels -- work as a source for rogue skills, decent martial ability, healing, some magical support, and could be a viable face character.

Glad to see some folks are interested!

I'll choose the lucky replacement player Wednesday or Thursday (13th or 14th).

In the meantime, others are welcome to apply.

@Kristian: You've been selected! Setting up stuff for you in-game, then sending an invite.

Thanks to everyone else who applied.
