Long ago, the great heroes of old led by the Wizard Thelonious Rex did battle against the an ancient Undead evil known as The Lord of Ash. It has long been believed that these heroes perished in their final battle against the Lord of Ash along with him but the truth is much darker.

Mighty was the Lord of Ash and his undead horde, so mighty even that they had seized control of the fortress of Telenor and were quickly spreading ruin across the land of Evermoon. When it seemed like all hope was lost, Rex and his companions appeared to confront them. It took time but eventually they confronted the mighty Wraith-like undead in his stronghold. The battle was fierce and long but they did not give up hope, even in the face of potential defeat. The Lord of Ash struck a mighty blow against Rex, nearly killing the Gold Dragonborn Wizard. It was at this moment Thelonious used his most powerful and forbidden spell. A spell with no name but so powerful that it obliterated the Lord of Ash and nearly killed Rex in the process or so they thought. Thelonious as he laid dying called his campions to him and warned that the Lord of Ash would return one day and that they would be needed to stop him but none of them would live long enough to face the Lord of Ash once more. With their blessing and his dying breath, Thelonious Rex cast a spell to seal his companions away in a magical stasis until they would be needed once more.

Deep in the ruins of Telenor, you have waited, in silence, motionless, unaware of the passage of time or suffering the effects of aging but knowing when you awaken, the world would need your help. In what seemed like a matter of seconds, you now find yourselves standing in a ruined fortress, surrounded by crumbling stone walls and a partially collapsed roof. The four of you find that most of your magical equipment has lost much of their enchantments over time and your body feels lesser than it once was. The passage of time seems to have weakened you more than Thelonious believed it would but this simple fact not as important as completing your mission.

Champions of Evermoon is a homebrew 5e (2014 Rules) campaign that will allow players to explore a world their characters are unfamiliar with while they seek out their ancient foe and attempt to finally put an end to its evil. The game will begin with the PC's at level 5 and proceed from there.

After awakening from a thousand year slumber, the PC's find themselves in a very different world than they remember and must navigate these changes while attempting to track down and slay the Lord of Ash.

The game will have mature themes, such as extreme violence, substance use/abuse, horror, and sex. Yes, sex.

Any 5e race except flying races are allowed. Custom lineages from Tasha's are allowed. All official 5e classes and subclasses are allowed but please feel free to ask about 3rd party subclasses. Any official 5e background is allowed.

I am looking for 4 players to post at least 4 times a week. Hopefully the game goes until the intended end around level 15 if not a little higher.

Players of all skill levels are welcome and should post their character concepts here and I will pick who I believe best fits the setting.

All are welcome to join.

I want to play a radiant warlock, something a bit, lighter. I would probably play him as a wandering healer to contrast the roving destroyer in your other game.

"a thousand slumber". How much have the world changed? In modern equivalent its like going from the viking age to the industrial age.
Or is it just a plot amount of time that means everything the heroes knew is gone and nobody remember from their time?

Would a bladsinger wizard, find that "morden" spellbooks and scrolls are just as normal, or have the entire magical system changed?

I would be interested in joining this game. I would love to play a Firbolg Druid. With a healer spot already spoken for, I could play it in whatever way rounds out the party best.

Here is what I was thinking for a short backstory:
"Fenwyn Willowglade is a cunning Firbolg druid who infiltrated a druidic circle corrupted by the Lord of Ash to steal the Seed of Renewal, an artifact capable of restoring life to Evermoon should it fall to the undead scourge. After fighting alongside Thelonious Rex and his companions against the Lord of Ash, she chose to enter a magical stasis with them, knowing the Seed must be safeguarded for the future. Now awakened in the ruins of Telenor, Fenwyn embodies a stoic yet nurturing spirit, determined to protect Evermoon and ensure the Seed is used to combat the encroaching darkness."

More like going from the early dark ages to the late middle ages. Yes, they would find that magic hasn't changed.

That would be interesting.

I like that, now I am picturing either a Circle of Wildfire or Circle of The Land Druid.

Oh I like the idea of circle of wildfire. Leaning into a guardian of balance role. Perhaps the Lord of Ash corrupted her former circle and tipped them towards destruction, which led her to rebel and steal the seed.

Hmm. Would a beast master ranger work. It has a Ranger Companion issue.

That sounds perfect.

What did you have in mind for the companion?

This sounds awesome! Here's my idea.

I'd play a human eldritch knight who fought with Thelonious and his companions. What became of his noble line, who knows. Perhaps he didn't even want this spell to be cast upon him. A man out of time now, he will feel duty, but mingled with confusion at the prophecy and temptation to abandon this duty if he should ever experience echoes of the world he knew and loved.

Not sure what sort of name would fit, if you like basing things on actual European naming traditions. How about Sir Talagon Everblade?

I'm thinking he wields two scimitars which are his namesake, and once he understands that their enchantment has diminished, they become a point of great insecurity.

That sounds like an interesting concept. I really like the idea of finding out if you have any descendants.

Okay, no more interest. Invites will be going out.

So with GeneCortess leaving we are down to three and need a replacement.

I think I'm ready to jump into one more game and this does sound promising

Now for concept - I can't explain reason but it just triggered me to want to play half-orc monk acolyte background
[ +- ] Inspired by
I would like to be as arrogant as to assume Telenor were seeking some wisdom/advice in the temple my PC were an acolyte and Half-Orc who has been hearing whispers of Gruumsh in his dreams, calling him to unleash the rage that simmers within believe it's his destiny to join Telenor. (or we can avoid Gruumsh if that deity does not exist in your world and Orc creation has different backstory)

Telenor is a place, not a person. That would have been Thelonious Rex. Telenor is where the battle against the Lord of Ash took place.

The only issue is that there is already a Monk in the game. The current party is a Human Eldritch Knight Fighter, a Firbolg Wildfire Druid, and a Human Way of Mercy Monk. Gruumsh is fine, this world uses the Grayhawk deities.

I didn't realize there is a monk in the party. That changes a lot. And yes I certainly mixed up Thelonious and Telenor, my bad. I'm going to sleep over the other character concept and come back unless anyone else takes the spot sooner

I understand.

Do tell me no if this is too edgy or not fitting the story, but this is what I've dreamed of tonight - instead of monk class I'm going with monk species - Githzerai - but stay with Acolyte background. My PC where part of party trying to find way to abandon plane of Limbo and ended up locked in Mechanus where Thelonious occasionally released him from with one of this forbidden spells (i.e. when trying to set up a mechanical defenses against undead horde.

Though her mental discipline allowed her to survive time spent in Mechanus, it affected her deeply. She is now Clockwork Soul Sorcerer.
Unable to get home to her won species she is thankful for Thelonious Rex saving her from the plane she did not belong to. She has been helping wizard since.

That sounds good to me. I will send out an invite.
