Name:
Charm
Race:
Human, Variant
Class:
Warlock, Fathomless if we are near the ocean, maybe Undying otherwise
Role:
Sweet little girl face; tentacle-happy blaster
Alignment:
Chaotic Good
Appearance: Usually a pretty, sweet featured, little girl of about 10-12. When threatened, her eyes turn black, her voice drops to an almost inhuman harsh rasp, and tentacles appear attacking whatever threatens her (reflavor appearance of Eldritch Blast as well as using a lot of the tentacle spells that warlocks get).
Personality: Sweet, but immature. Wants to be cared for and liked so she tries hard to please her guardian and their friends. But her brain stopped developing when the rest of her did so she has very little thought for the long term, focusing almost always on the immediate. She loves sweets, particularly with honey to soothe her perpetually sore throat, as well as beads and bangles and bright colored clothes. She is not above stealing them if she spends all her money, then lying about it even if caught.
Backstory: Charm's father was a successful trader/merchant with his own ship (again, if you want the nautical theme, if not a caravan merchant); her mother died before she can remember. She grew up with adults and adult concerns all around her and quickly learned to manipulate them to get her way. But then the day came that she can never remember. She remembers the sky grew dark and the wind howling, then nothing. No father, no ship/caravan, no one knew her.
She made her own way as best she could until she was attacked by bandits. Then her eyes grew black, her voice strange and inhuman, and tentacles appeared out of the ground, smashing and slaying bandits. It probably would not have been enough, though, without a timely rescue by the person who later became her guardian. They came upon the scene, slew the attackers, and took her under their wings, despite having seen the other side of her nature. Now she travels with her guardian, who instinctively tries to protect her but is still an adventurer with all the danger and possibility of death that that implies.
And even if she has occasional nightmares and watches strangers carefully when out of towns, her dark passenger seems to appreciate the chance to wreck havoc on any who threaten the form it has chosen to hide within.
