Burbage says:
The silk weighs 5 lbs.
OOC:
While that doesn't encumber me any further, that does actually put me 4.5 pounds over my 30 pound limit of what I can carry in my backpack. I have an empty sack but I'm guessing that's designed to be carried in a hand? If someone else has room in their backpack for the codex let me know.
@Burbage does Thrud or any of the others feel the same thing Jacky does about the door? Is it similar to the feelings of dread we encountered in the tower or that hole down in Gog's territory?

I have a small sack in my backpack that can hold 10lb. Meant for treasure we want to keep. Do you want it? I'm at 105.3/125 for encumbered if you want me to packmule a few items.

Ella acted with an alacrity at Jacky’s calling. She moved up to the front of the party to examine the door. She approached with a systematic attitude: she observed the door, and then the masonry around it and above it under Thrudmarr‘s lamplight. She then asked the part to stay back with their light and stood in the dark looking at the door quietly, wondering if their might be some kind of strange infra-red signature.
OOC:
Ellagel isn’t a thief so she has no skill at trap-finding, but she’ll give it an honest try with her above average intelligence and elven senses…
OOC:
If needed, Ella will carry the recovered tome, even if it pushes her over her weight limit and forces her to walk at a 6" rate.

No, only Jacky. And it’s not a feeling of unnatural dread or anything like that. It’s just that Jacky’s thiefly spidey senses are tingling - there’s something about the door, but he can’t quite put his finger on it.

Ella can see nothing unusual about the door or its surroundings, even with her infravision.

"Well, nothing for it. Show me a sign, Lightfingers!" Jacky says, pulling out a coin from his purse.

Heads! The halfling does as luck dictates.

"Wait! Are you sure about this? We might at least tie a rope around your waist," the elf insisted, thinking that if the threat were a pitfall or slope, they might keep their companion alive.
OOC:
Your quite down on hit points, are t you?
Mar 29, 2025 9:17 pm
Jacky accedes to the elf's request. Who has the rope?
Mar 29, 2025 10:53 pm
OOC:
Grim has rope, we can use his.
Edit - No he doesn’t, NM, sry.

The elf turned to the brawny fighting men, and observed them silently.
OOC:
Do Zacharias or Thrudmarr have any rope? Ella has none.

Zacharias slowly unspools the 50' of silk rope he has on the side of his backpack, and hands one end to Jacky. "Make sure it is tight, Joshua!"

"Thrud ready. Be careful." Thrud sets his lantern down and grips his axe as he stands by Zacharias, ready to help hold the rope or leap into action if need be.

With Zach’s rope securely tied around his waist, Jackie cautiously opens the door to the south. It hinges towards him in a completely normal fashion. However, as Jacky appraises the corridor that now stretches out before him, he notices a very fine, taught, silken thread spanning the far side of the open doorway, about a foot off the ground.

Beyond the doorway, a 10’ wide corridor continues south for 20’ before arriving at another closed door.

Jacky waves the others back when he notices the fine thread. A trigger, but what for?

"A trip wire! Someone set up a surprise here, and not a nice one, I'd bet." Jacky taps his chin. "Why don't we back away, and throw something at it to see what happens? It's a pity you left that chain mail behind, Thrudmarr, it would have been just the thing."
Mar 31, 2025 2:49 pm
"Shouldn't we just avoid it, Jacky?"

As she is saying this, the elf is getting ready to back all the way back to the yellow sitting room, and to stand behind a corner, so as not to be blasted by a lightning bolt, or poisoned by a cloud of noxious fumes...

Aye, even meh own stubby legs can prolly jus’ step over it.

"That's true, Grim, but I'd feel better knowing what the thing does rather than leaving it behind if we go that way." Jacky shrugs. "If you feel strongly about it, we can go the other way too."
Apr 1, 2025 8:50 pm
Thrudmarr leans forward to peer past Jacky at the thin thread spanning the doorway. He shakes his head at Jacky's suggestion to trip it, agreeing with Ella and Grim that it's best avoided.

"No throw, string go big boom!" Thrud mimics an explosion with his hands. "Trap for reason, danger. We look other way first, come back?"

OOC:
Were there bones in this room?
Apr 3, 2025 3:57 pm
Ella awaited for Jacky's decision. She trusted the halfling would know what to do.
OOC:
I'm okay with Jacky springing the trap from afar, as long as we're all safely away, and that he doesn't take up too much risk.

@Avraham, according to posted descriptions, the yellow room had no bones, the other 20 x 20 non-descript room before that had some debris, but no bones. There were no bones described in the junction passage that lead to the door Jacky just opened.
