Tryne's eyes and smile lit up like a child receiving a present on his birthday, which Tryne had rarely experienced as a child himself. He just stared at the key for a minute taking it from the coachman. "My name in Tryne, just arrived here less than a day ago, so I really have no idea where the smith is located. Only been to the train station, the tavern, and here. Vice, directions to Adrianus shop?"

Laulalith' runs her fingers down the side of the elemental cart, admiring the workmanship and wistfully wondering what it would have been like if it had been powered by fire instead of lightning. She has a sudden yearning to speak the language of fire again and connect with an elemental being of that realm. To commune with such a force - and to command it - must be a truly special experience.

As the others get the cart ready, she once again stares into the depths of her new ring - lost in thought.

Within the gem, Laulith watches embers glow and dim, then split, releasing bright flames. A kaleidoscope of ebbing and flowing energy. As she stares, the elf notices her thoughts seem to crackle and sizzle in the primordial Ignan language. As she continues, Laulalith hears the sounds coming from her own mouth. Barely above a whisper, but like a warm, gentle fireplace.

Vice is watching Laulalith watch her ring. At Tryne's question, he absentmindedly points in in the direction of Adrianus' shop.

OOC:
Lali is so going to try to have a conversation with the campfire tonight. :)

I think we're good to move along to the smith - or skip that she start the journey.

Leon
Leon gives Vice a nod and looks toward town, "Very well Mr. Tryne, let’s follow our nose. You coming Meepo?", he flicks the reigns and starts the horses, "Find the smith, Slippy."

The mighty horses smoothly pull the steel cart away from the hall and head into the heart of town. Many of the townfolk gawk at the team of black horses, drawing the elegant cart. Without much input from the coachman, the team heads across town to the rail track and turns to the right. They pass the little apothecary, a few little houses and shacks, before passing the rail station and stopping in front of the smith.

Garundah
Garundah bounces out of the shop, hopping with excitement. "She never disappoints, even with horses pulling her.", she runs her tiny green hand over the cart’s lines, lovingly. "I’m Garundah, sir.", she gestures to a slight, but muscular young blacksmith who walks out as well, "And the is Mr. Adrianus, Salvation’s blacksmith."

Adrianus
"A fine team you have there.", he says in a husky voice. "As Garundah, said, I am Adrianus. She also said you would like a hitch put on this contraption."

Leon
"Leon, little one. Also , kindly remove the hitch. You may keep it as payment if you wish."

The sinewy smith agrees, grabs his hammer and a crowbar. Leon begins a to unyoke the team and within minutes, the hitch falls loose to the ground. Leon takes the opportunity to feed and water the horses. Meanwhile, Garundah is taking measurements, working on positioning the trailer hitch. With Adrianus’ help, a short while later, a sturdy hitch is mounted to the rear of the elemental cart. It needs paint, but that can wait.

As the team is resting, Leon takes a few minutes to show the cart’s locking mechanism in the driver’s seat. The arcane key slides and Leon shows Tryne the brake lever, drive lever, direction control and the steering wheel. Leaving the brake set, the coachman gestures to the direction lever, "Would you like to do the honours? Gently, of course."

Tryne makes good use of the time as the smiths work on hitching the wagon to the coach. The artificer stands at the front of the coach, a simple looking steel rod in his hand as he looks intently at the gauntlet on his left hand. The glove notably does not match his armor, a full plate gauntlet with a large number of runes carefully etched upon it. He casually spins the steel rod, his multi tool, changing it - a screw driver, a wrench, a hammer, finally a smaller rod.

Talking to himself as he works, Tryne touches the multi tool to each of the runes as he goes, the rune glowing dimly at the touch of the tool. "Lets see - knowledge - magic - mind..." after a few more adjustments, he holds the gloved hand - glowing slightly - against the coach, his eyes closed.

Nodding to himself, he continues to in inspect the coach. Sometimes adjusting runes on his glove, sometimes making adjustments with a wrench. He pauses to quickly sketch the wheel suspension in a notebook from his satchel.

*******************

As Leon shows Tryne the controls, he pays very close attention, quickly understanding the mechanisms but knowing he does not yet know the feel of the device. He cannot help but smile broadly at the offer, "Gladly... " looking around the coach "everyone step back a minute."

Inserting the key, Tryne activates the coach, taking a moment just to feel the device as it comes to life.
OOC:

Tryne uses runes to direct magic with his tool, casting Detect Magic as a ritual. The rest is just him being a mechanic, giving the coach a quick once over. As the coach starts, his Detect Magic should still be functioning.

Meepo wanting to make sure the group doesn't leave without him decides to stay with the cart.

sure thing! he runs over and jumps in the carriage as they depart for the blacksmiths.

Meepo watches intently to the instructions on how to operate the vehicle in case the group might need a night time driver.

Meepo looks over at Leon. "does something like this need attunement? Or can it have multiple people attuned to it?
OOC:
I know you already said it does need attunement but thought I'd bring it in character and get that started if it can handle multiple.
Meepo takes a few steps back when Tryne requests to do so.

The Khoravar makes his way around the cart, taking in its elegant, robust, gnomish design. Perhaps surprising, the leaf springs and wheels are of fine make, but rather mundane. The components that draw most of Tryne’s attention are the curling loops are the front and rear of the cart. Much smaller than the arms of an elemental airship, these half loops appear to serve a similar purpose. Somewhere within the cart, he senses abjeration magic, likely from the bound elemental within.

As he warns those working on the cart, he eases the lever carefully forward. A flash of light fills his eyes as purple-white energy stretches between the loops before him. He can feel the static in the air as the sizzling energy glows. Held in place by the brake, the cart doesn’t move. Through the handle of the lever, he feels a connection with something within the machine. Testing the controls, the steering seems to be powered by the elemental as well. Despite the small control wheel, the carriage wheels turn with relative ease. As Tryne pushes the lever forward, he can feel the cart lurching against the locked wheels. Pulling the third lever, the lightning flickers out at the front and appears in the rear loops and the cart now leans in that direction. Perhaps problematic when towing. Shifting it forward agin and the lightning reappears in front of him.

Tryne realizes, it’s not the most discreet mode of travel and would clearly attract a lot of attention, especially at night.

Tryne grins widely as he tests the controls - then shuts down the coach. Hopping down from the controls, "Open lightning around the front and back is not really pedestrian friendly is it. I see why you would never want to start this thing up with horses. We will have to see how it does with a wagon attached. Of course, it kind of keeps anyone from getting in your way while driving."

Tryne and Meepo stand by as the cart is rigged up with the tow hitch. Part way through the modification, Leon excuses himself and mounts Slippy, saying he’s off to feed and water his team and get a drink himself. He then leads the team across the street to the town stable.

Tryne watches the little goblin work her magic, perhaps literally, on the cart. He recognizes a fellow artificer plying her trade. It takes nearly two hours to make the necessary adjustments, but the hitch is ready for use. Knowing the group are eager to leave, Garundah promising to paint it when they return. With that, the odd pairing of a half-elf and a mobile are ready to go.
OOC:
Roll me an animal handling check to see how well Tryne can control the cart back to the hall.

"Thanks Garundah, great job, this will really help. I'll let you know how the coach performs once we get back."

"Alright Meepo, lets see if we can actually get this back to the church. Hop on up. Be a shame if I wreck the thing before we even leave the town."

Tryne nervously goes through the controls which Leon described, actually pulling out his notebook and writing down each of the controls functions while it was still fresh in his head. He would diagram the entire control system later when he had more time to research.

Ensuring the break was on, he glanced around the coach to make sure no one was near it, then activated the coach again. He eased it forward, but kept the speed slow.

"Here we go. Keep an eye out for anyone walking, don't want to run anyone down with this."
OOC:

Not one of my better skills, but not bad result.

The elemental cart sizzles to life once more, drawing even more attention from the nearby townsfolk. Tryne is very cautious and decides it would be a bad idea to turn around. Keeping slow, he makes his way out to the south edge of town. He passes the Salvage Market, and turns down the last street. Straight ahead is the hall. Holding the throttle lever, Tryne can feel the elemental inside resisting him, but he maintains careful control. With the control wheel, he can sense that the elemental sometimes is not as helpful in powering the steering. Surprising even himself, he arrives unscathed.
OOC:
I think we’re all set now. You have about six, possibly seven hours of daylight left.

Torhak had sat quietly while the mechanics and magicians did their work. His shoulder throbbed and ached beneath his mark, he rubbed it with a meaty paw before returning to a resting position after it did nothing to dull the ache. He knew what would help, but that would have to wait until a suitable situation presented itself.

"Are we close to leaving?" he said as he intuited that perhaps things were wrapping up.

Meepo tips Garundah five copper. "just a thanks for seeing us so quickly and helpin us out right away!"

As Tryne tells Meepo it's time to go back Meepo darts back into the carriage and finds a spot near the back like a child claiming their designated spot in a vehicle and holds tightly just in case.
"all ready to go!" he shouts out

Once back at the chapel he calls out "We're baaaaack! And all ready to go!"

"I think so. Of course, we'll like ending spending the night there, especially if we find anything worthwile. Is everyone ok with that?" Vice ask
Dec 9, 2024 6:18 pm
37, who had been discussing the group's immediate abscence with Famul, hears Meepo announce their arrival.

"Again, if there are any issues notify the Sherrif. Don't risk your own safety." Famul had money of his own now, and 37 was worried someone might attempt to rob the smaller construct. With that, the metal man exited the church and made a beeline to the Sherrif to notify him of their absence. Only then does he return to the cart, and work on removing the barrel full of water from his Bag of Holding into the towed cart.

"We will not be without food or water." And with that, he gets in their carriage and settles in for the trip.

Laulalith gathers her belongings and ensures that her disguise is back in place before she joins the others at the cart.

She winks nods to Tryne. "I take it back, it does look much better without the horses.".
OOC:
Ready to go

Trusk

Nictorah

Trusk
Trusk expresses concern about entering the Grey and says he may rejoin the group on the next journey. "I feel there may be other leads I should follow up on, first. I thank you for the roof over my head last night."

He bids the team good luck and collects his belongings, then departs the hall.
OOC:
I think that’s everyone. I’ll have the first post for the journey up in a few hours.

As everyone loads in Meepo asks the group. "Does anyone want ride up front with Tryne? I can but my eyesight is not the best when the sun is out. Vice you said something about the person who hired us asked to make sure we were not followed correct?"
OOC:
Along the journey Meepo would like to peep out of the windows to see if we are being followed as well as if there are any interesting plants or substances that he was looking at in his alchemy book
