OOC:
With your connection to fire elementals, you would easily know this is not one of those. Arcana would be the right check to learn more.

Laulalith is grateful to see Meepo's power overcome the fire magic their foe had projected against them. Not so much for own sake, as the was confident that her new ring would protect her, but her companions had no such protection.

Vice's question gives her an idea. "I don't know, but let's find out". She sends him a wink and takes five quick steps to get behind the outcropping cliff and out of sight of the fireball. There, she grasps her silver medallion and closes her eyes for a second while she recalls a formidable Cyran army major she once met during the war. The effect is instantaneous as the medallions magic washes over her: In her place stands a stern, human woman in her fifties with short-cropped grey hair and fierce blue eyes wearing the field uniform of a Cyran major.

Then Laulaith's eyes flash black, and she instantly vanishes, only to reappear right in front of the fireball. From there, she strides forward, while she wills confidence into her steps. She holds out her hand in the universal signal for 'stop' that also prominently displays her ring. "STAND DOWN! THATS AN ORDER!"

She repeats the same message in Ignan, where it comes out as the deep rumbling of great furnace.
OOC:

Actions:
- Move 10' behind the cliff to break line of sight (V15)
- Action: Diguise Self
- Bonus action: Misty step to reappear (R19)
- Move 20' towards the fireball (O18)
- Free action: Talking :)

So I'm gambling that:
- the fireball is intelligent
- ... but not too intelligent
- it speaks Ignan
- it recognises the ring
- it falls for the deception

That's probably a high-risk approach.

Plan B: Lali has resitance to fire, so she is not the worst decoy :)

In case you want Deception in stead of performance, just drop the d4 from the roll.

Rolls

Performance - (1d20+7+1d4)

(10) + (1) + 7 = 18

The elf dashes up and vanishes in a swirl of mist, only to appears before the ball of fire. The heat radiating for it is intense, but the elf feels it as nothing but warmth. As the ancient Ignan language comes from within her, the construct before her does not speak or respond to it. Her understanding of the fire language gives her some insight however. This being was created by unnatural means and is woven together through some kind of magic. Whatever it is, it is primal and indifferent. It only seeks destruction.
OOC:
I love the attempt, but it just wouldn’t be able to understand you.

Torhak is up, with 37 on deck. (Caught the typo)
Dec 19, 2024 1:23 am
Torhak watched the elf brave the fire, bravery that was impressive, and with that ring possibly tactical. Though he couldn't tell what had really happened from it. There was only one thing to do, it was time to find out if Fireballs could wither!

Torhak gripped his warhammer in one hand and rushed forward toward the fireball, then he skid to a stop and as he did a growing energy around his shoulder began to snake down his forearm quickly before he thrust it forward and released a bolt of necrotic energy at the fireball, the chain from his manacle whipping across his armor causing a loud clanking sound. As he did so the pain of using his mark caused him to wince with pain.

Then with but a thought he ignited his warhammer in black shroud of energy, feeding off his own blood, producing an ichor that would drain the life essence from his foes!
OOC:

Move: to Q17 (I think I counted that properly)
Standard: Necrotic Bolt
Bonus Action: Divine Favor

Rolls

Necrotic Bolt (Fire Bolt) - Attack - (1d20+8)

(10) + 8 = 18

Necrotic Bolt (Fire Bolt) - Damage - (2d10)

(210) = 12

The energy from the Minotaur’s hammer disappears into the fire before them. The flames flicker deep inside and ripples pulse back outward.
OOC:
Roll your d4 for divine favor.

37 is up, with Tryne and Talon on deck.
Dec 19, 2024 3:50 am
OOC:

Unless I am mistaken, I hit it with Necrotic Bolt (Fire Bolt reflavored), which isn't a weapon attack so Divine Favor wouldn't apply right? I was doing it preemptively for next turn assuming I engage the fireball in melee.
Dec 19, 2024 6:28 am
OOC:
Fair enough. I appreciate the honesty.
Dec 19, 2024 8:06 am
Sensing no reaction from the living inferno in front of her, Laulalith prepares herself for the inevitable attack. "Another performance wasted on an unappreciative audience."

"It didn't work Vice!"
OOC:

Not entirely unexpected. Still more fun than Hex + Eldritch Blast :)

37, moving in an arc to their left, works on securing the map again even as the crystalline node on his chest begins to crackle and hum...

"Yeah, I gathered. Thanks for trying though!" he shouts back. Looking around at the others still on the cart he ask "I don't suppose either of you have any tricks to deal with a large ball of fire?"
Dec 19, 2024 9:42 pm
Tryne had been on the verge of diving off the coach when Meepo dissolved the incoming fireball. "Great job Meepo!"

As 37 launched lightning at the enemy, Tryne responded to Vice "Nothing like that..."

Tryne hopped down from the coach, with Talon following behind, upon hitting the ground Tryne followed the rocks around to the right. As he moved, Tryne was mumbling and selecting options on his tool, "Had to be fire - couldn't be something else..."
OOC:

Move: Toward R15 which I think Tryne can reach with Talon next to him.
Action: Use multi purpose tool to configure a cantrip - Ray of Frost

37’s lightning sizzles past Laulalith, striking the ball. The smell of ozone wafting through the still air. The glow of the electricity is swallowed with the magic’s flames as it flickers and writhes. While it doesn’t make any sound besides the crackling of fire, Laulalith knows that hurt.

Tryne and Talon rush up to join the others, the tool in his hand looks frosty cold.
OOC:
Roll your attack Tryne.

Vice is up, with Meepo on deck.
Dec 20, 2024 12:08 am
OOC:

It seemed to me that the action was consumed configuring the cantrip. I'll add the attack if you decide to rule the other way.

Rolls

Ray of Frost - (1d20+8)

(16) + 8 = 24

Frost Damage - (2d8)

(15) = 6

"So, we are all going toward the flaming ball of burning fire?! That's the plan?" Vice sighs as he scrambles down from the cart, and towards his friends and the fire, getting just as close as necessary to throw Envy toward the fire, hoping he isn't saying goodbye to the weapon for good.
OOC:
will use cunning to get far enough to throw an attack, then back to R18, and the relative safety of a Minotaur.
Vice
[ +- ] ENVY Poison Chakram

Rolls

Chakram (thrown) - Damage - (1d20+7, 1d4+4+2)

As soon as Meepo recovers from cancelling the large fireball Meepo takes off on his broom as fast as he can to get around and behind the living fireball as to spread out so the creature can not hit everyone at the same time. (I believe he can get to M10 on the brooms speed).

As Meepo flys around he sees Laulalith's transformation and appearing in front of the living fireball and yelling at it in some unknown language.

Gauging the situation between the two Meepo casts ray of frost as the living fireball seems like it's aggression will continue
OOC:
rolling disadvantage in case there is no one within 5 feet before the fireball shows hostility and due to the sunlight.

"This is hardly the worst thing we've advanced towards in our time together," 37 calls out to Vice. "Remember the hydra at the haunted circus? Or the Corpse Collector?"
Dec 20, 2024 6:27 am
"True," Vice says, readying another chakram "but neither of those were on fire. There's a reason I'm a juggler and not a fire dancer."

Tryne’s ice splashes through the flames as Vice’s chakram disappears into its core. The poison doesn’t seem to affect it at all. Meanwhile, Meepo struggles against the continued sunlight.

The fireball rolls through the alcove into the group. A ball of flame flies toward Laulalith as it passes and tethers of flame whip out at Tryne, Talon and Torhak. The bolt hits Laulalith, but her ring absorbs much of the energy. Torhak feels the flames sear his arms as he defends himself. Tryne evades the ribbons of fire, as does Talon.

Deep within the construct, a white hot light begins to build.

"It's getting ready for another blast! Spread out!"

Laulalith takes her own advice and runs behind the ball of fire while she levels her birchwood wand at it. Her eyes flash black as two bolts of energy shoot towards their enemy

As Laulalith retreats, her eldritch energy passes trough the edges of the flames, but not deep enough to cause any damage. Tryne watches as the blasts hit the wall behind him.
