"Noted. I will pass it along to to the 'warforged and his little pal' the next time I see them." Torhak snorted, his nose ring blowing up from the force. "Anything else, Rider?"

Tarin

Tarin
The rider's gaze remains locked with the minotaur for a long silent moment. He then sits up in his saddle, quickly changing his demeanour to weirdly friendly, "No, I think that's it, handsome.", he says with a wink. "Give my regards to Kalli."

With that, he flicks his steed's reigns and the black horse trots on, taking a wide berth from Torhak before continuing along the turnpike into town. The rider doesn't look back as he continues down Rail Street, turning onto First Avenue and out of sight.

The minotaur stands alone in the middle of the empty road.
Jan 24, 2025 3:47 pm
As the rider leaves, Vice loosens his grip on his chakram and slowly walks over to Torhak "Well, that was, thankfully, anti-climatic"
Jan 24, 2025 6:19 pm
Meepo watches as Tarin rides on into town and notes if he follows the past of his comrades or if he goes down a different route.

"Well glad that that didn't go down as bad as it could have"

He steps out of the shrubs he was once behind. "Should we go back to the church or maybe the buyers house?"
Jan 24, 2025 7:07 pm
"We should catch up with the group as quickly as possible. Can you fly ahead, or above and see where they are?" Vice looks up at Torhak, then to Meepo before looking towards the town. "I'm not that little"
Jan 24, 2025 8:46 pm
"sure I can go ahead but I don't know many places in town so unless I have some directions I might have a hard time finding them"
Jan 24, 2025 9:07 pm
Tryne nodded as he listened to Kalli speak about Tarin, "I thought it might be something like that with him shadowing us. Always those who find it easier to take from others than find it themselves. Sometimes being a scrapper it is harder to get the score home safely than it was to find the thing in the first place."

"I think we got lucky with terrain when we lost Tarin. We may have to consider some options with the coach. Maybe 37 and I can come up with something, or we've got a few people good with illusions. The coach is not subtle at all, so we are easily spotted coming and going."
Jan 24, 2025 9:29 pm
Vice replies to Meepo "Just look for the carts. If you don't see them, I think it's safe to say they are inside the church."

Meepo takes to the air. Once above the buildings, he sees the rest of the group getting to the church on the opposite side of town. He also takes note of Tarin's horse at the Grey Beyond. The kobold drops back to the ground to let Torhak and Vice know what he's seen.
OOC:
Timeline-wise, the three of you should be able to join the conversation at the church from here. Unless you wish to go somewhere else.

Kalli nods in agreement with Tryne. "It's a beautiful cart. I'm sure the more covetous in town would love the chance to snatch her from you. Whether here, or in the Mournland.", she says. "I really should let my patron know what you found. Is there a broker you trust in town? Would they come here?"

Laulalith thinks back to the brief encounter in the Grey Beyond and tries to recall what she can about Ikar's companions. "How many are there in this crew? And what can you tell us about the other members?" Information is power, and currently Laulalith feels uncomfortably powerless. This rival crew had been keeping the Guardiands and their hall under observation for a several days, and from Kalli's description, they had a habit of taking what others brought home from the Mournland. 'Well, that explains the welcome Ikar got at the bar.'

"It doesn't matter much that we weren't followed directly to this place. Ikar will soon know that we have returned with a load. In fact, he probably already knows." She gives Kalli a calculating look. "We are at a disadvantage until our friends return. How openly do you think Ikar will move against us? Will they dare to attack us in town?"

"If I had to guess, I would say Ikar would have over a dozen that I've seen here in town. Most of them are just scrappers he's recruited. Nethrisa, she's a shrewd tiefling and runs things in Salvation when Ikar isn't around. Tarin, it seems you've already encountered, is the nose. Sassy is the mouth and Clyde the muscle. The rest, just do what they're told and the grunt work. They're usually are kept in line by Sheriff. You've likely just got their attention. Not many have made the splash like 37 and Vice .", she says with a smile.

"It's been less than a month. The Sheriff gives you this church, which I've been told is haunted...", she looks around for a moment forgetting where she actually was, before resuming, "Now the rest of you join up and pull a haul like this.", she nods her head, "It's pretty impressive."
Jan 24, 2025 11:50 pm
"Unfortunately when people have held a position for a length of time, and suddenly feel that position is being challenged and possibly usurped... they can do things they might not otherwise do. Good men do questionable things. Bad men... well..." 37's voice trails off as he splays his hands out in front of himself.

Kalli says:
" . . . It's pretty impressive."
Vice is still wiping off the dust from the walk back. Even though he only caught the tail end of the conversation, that doesn't stop him from talking. "Well I hope you remember our impressiveness when its time to be paid. We had to deal with pretentious ghost and dangerous flames and angry dust to get this stuff." he says, gesturing to the loaded cart. "Which we are storing for you, and you somehow managed to get us on a hit list from shady scavengers!"

Kalli blushes with embarrassment for a moment, "Yes, of course.", she says politely, "The dangers of the Mournland are the reason I hired you, after all. Based on what I see here, it would have taken a team larger than mine to get it back in one night.", she breaths a heavy sigh.

"As for Ikar and his gang of thugs, I place that blame more on your exploits, than my job. Though, I will admit, it likely didn’t help allay their concerns."

"However, as I have said, we should get a broker here to assess the value. Draev and I get along well. Irullah and I don’t see eye to eye. Belaluur seems fair enough, if a little shifty at times. Do you have a preference?", she asks.

Kalli shifts awkwardly in silence again for a moment, looking expectantly to the wagon and crates on top of the cart, "I’m sorry. I’m dying to see what you’ve found!", she blurts out excitedly, with a slight bounce of her legs.
Jan 25, 2025 5:59 am
"What did you do to annoy Irullah? I though she was the broker of choice fornthe Grey Dogs?"
OOC:
I'm assuming everyone is good with using Belaluur since weve used her as our broker in the past, unless we want to change things up?
Jan 25, 2025 4:29 pm
Tryne shrugs, "Who ever you worked with before is fine... I have no contacts in this city. I'm interested to see how this works here. The broker does what exactly? Decides what the lords get to skim off the top? And then the rest we sell to Kalli's patron?"
Jan 25, 2025 4:33 pm
"Belaluur has done well by us in the past, and there is something to be said for loyalty," 37 chimes in. With that, he will take Kalli to the wagon to begin showing what was found.

Kalli nods to Tryne, "That's mostly right, except that the brokers sell to nobles only. The Brelish King gave all nobles first right of refusal to goods found in the Mournland. Which mean anything found is the nobles' first. They get to pick what they want and sell the rest. The brokers have contacts they used for most of the rare items. Sometimes they sell it as scrap to Belleraphon if there is no interest. In this case, my patron commissioned me to find and retrieve the items from the warehouse. He holds a claim to it, the broker should respect that.", she says dubiously.

"The brokers make their money by selling the items to the nobles. They take their cut and the rest goes to the scapper. Usually we're lucky to get fifty percent."
Jan 25, 2025 8:02 pm
Laulalith joins the conversation between Kalli and 37. "I assume we should get Belaluur here quickly and discretely. I can fetch her while the rest of you unpack. I can probably get her here unseen if that is to our advantage."
Jan 25, 2025 8:12 pm
"I'm surprised that wily goblin isn't here already. If you could get Belaluur here that would be great. Please explain the situation to her, she'll know if there is any risk involved and act accordingly." Vice scrunches his face in deep thought "We should probably figure out a way to contact her, and the sheriff, when we need them."
