Chapter Three - Return to the Mournland

The horse Vice mounts indeed stays remarkably still. It nickers quietly as the saddle shifts and the invisible gnome climbs up. Unseen by anyone, he stands on his very tippy toes atop the saddle. From this vantage point, he can just see inside the house through the window closest to him. There appears to be some sort of sitting room through the window. Several unique items from Cyre sit mounted on the wall along with the taxidermied head of some foul creature. The stranger from the Shrine is seen talking to Tarin, along with the Tabaxi Sassy. The other window seems to show a study of some sort. Shelved tomes and scrolls can be seen there.

Meanwhile in the carpentry shop…
The carpenter stops and looks up, "The little warforged? Yeah, I sent him away. Those bandits laid siege to this town for weeks, then tore it apart with that little shootout.", he says gruffly. "Now I appreciate what the Guardians did to save Salvation and I’m happy to sell them what they need for their new home. But, while that little guy runs free, Sheriff still has one his buddies in a cell next door. Why should I trust either of them?"

At the Salvage Market…
Kalli is beaming with an ear-to-ear smile, "I agree, Mr. Meepo. Would you mind accompanying me to my home to secure this?", she gestures to the rather large bag of coin.

With that, she bids Belaluur farewell, then leaves the market and the trio stop at Kalli’s home. She enters and returns quickly. Meepo and 37 notice a golden glow faintly show around the door for an instant. Kalli nods, "Thank you. Let’s get the rest and yourselves your gold."

A few minutes later, the three are secure, back in the hall.

The Carpenter shakes his head. "No can do.", he says firmly. "I can appreciate having sympathy for your own kind. The little guy may well have earned it. But he has a long way to go to prove himself to me.", he says bluntly.

"I'll tell you what I can do.", he continues. "I need the business, I'll sell you the lumber you need for the old church. It'll likely be a hundred gold for the timber. I can get glass for the windows, or any other materials if needed. That'll be extra. But, if the warforged is a friend, I'd ask you tell him to keep away for now."

The carpenter looks away from Torhak in thought. He takes a long pause while he stares at the unfinished chair. He runs his rough hand over the flowing lines of the armrest. "Coundn’t really call myself a businessman in this town, if I wasn’t willing to accept a bribe... could I?", he says finally. There’s the faintest hint of disappointment in his voice.

"Very well," he says, turning back to face the minataur once more, "A hundred and twenty gold and the wee automaton can pick it up himself."

He offers a handshake to seal the deal, "Any funny business and I’ll drag him to Sheriff myself. Understood?"
