Tryne moved forward, "We did not have a chance to test them. We were more focused on keeping them hidden and I think firing this would probably make a considerable statement." He smiled as he spoke about the weapon. "Would certainly deter someone at range. We were shadowed in the Grey by a rider until we lost him. I imagine a couple of these would encourage anyone to move along. I imagine the range is pretty impressive." Tryne's mind was already whirling on how he could improve the site capabilities of the weapon.

Laulalith listens disinterestedly to the technical discussion about the rifles. She would love to hear what goes on in the back room negotiations, but at this stage it seems too risky to attempt to spy on their patron. Instead, she considers how to convince the lord to fund an expedition deeper into the Mournland to search for the professor. She has her own reasons to go deeper, but her companions probably need the lure of profit.

Now I want a rotating turret with mounted elemental rifles on the cart. :)Last edited February 23, 2025 1:50 pm

Tryne's eyes lit up for a second, but he shrugged in response to the question, not wanting to give up any team secrets. "I just got here couple days ago. Any real test of range would have to be outside. I'm sure the lord will want you to test them once you get them delivered to where ever you are going."
He thought for a moment, "As for the rider, I think he was making a statement - letting us know he was watching us." he shrugged again "or maybe it is as you say, a mistake on his part as we were able to elude him."

The group hears a loud thump in the back room. A green skinned half orc with pointed ears drifts next to Laulalith.

Vice speaks up, "A haunted bell tower, yes. But . . you can't just fire one of those things into the town."
Feb 24, 2025 7:30 am
Laulalith raises an eyebrow at the half-orc's words and replies in a deadpan neutral tone. "What happens in a closed room between consenting adults is nobody's business but theirs." In spite of her words, she strains her ears to hear whether anything untoward is going on in the back room and discretely puts her hand on her wand in case the goblin turns out to need help. 'It's only paranoia if they're not really after you.'

"The boss gets a little excited sometimes. I know the sound of his fist on a desk when I hear it..", Urabur says.

Meepo looks to Vice. "Have you met the ghosts up there? Are they friendly ghosts that may want to watch them shoot or mean ghosts that may attack and .. get shot?"
Feb 25, 2025 4:00 am
Vice answers Meepo. "Oh, there was only one ghost, and I didn't see her. She is the woman finally at peace in the basement."

The brightly colored artificer had been putting up some resistance to displaying the weapon to the whole town, but the urge to see how the weapon actually worked finally broke down his hesitation. Tryne picked up the rifle he had been examining since it was already out of the storage and he was most familiar with it. Gathering up some ammo, Tryne would wait until they were in position before loading the weapon.
"Why not? I have not seen the bell tower yet."
He looked at the rifle, "I've been wanting to see how this harnesses the elemental in action. If it blows up, well we won't be in the main church next to the rest of the gear."

37 says nothing, but when the others head into the belltower to shoot the rifle he follows. Seeing these weapons in action is too good of a chance to pass up.

Vice will remain downstairs, eager to hear how Belaluur's negotiations re going.
Feb 25, 2025 9:26 pm
Meepo heads to the bell tower to see if there is enough room to watch the show but will remain down directly below the bell tower if there is not enough room for four people

Remi pumps his fist in excitement and begins gathering up the two spare rifles and some ammunition. As 37 makes for the back room and the ladder to the attic, Remi hesitates.
As if to answer his pause, Belaluur emerges from the back room with Orakh in tow.
The little goblin has a large grin on her face. Lord Tornn, seems less pleased, but not upset. "Well, tall grey and handsome, keep me in mind the next time you’re in town. Your friend Kalli is quite the advocate for you."
"Of course, Ms. Belaluur.", he says with surprising satisfaction in his voice. He looks at Remi quizzically.
"‘Scuse us, Boss. We just gonna test these out."
Before Orakh can protest, he ducks past the half-orc lord and makes for the attic. The group passes Famul as he is cutting lumber with saws large circular saw in place of his hand. 37 takes note as the warforged had never realized that the little construct was so modular. The attic seems to be coming along quickly, with much of the damaged framework already replaced.
Continuing up and into the bell tower, there is room for the small group. From this vantage point, they can see much of the town, including Ikar’s base. To the east, the towering grey mists. Turning to the south, there is a shallow and wide ravine. Approximately seventy-five feet away, is a dead, bleached and gnarled tree. There are five twisted branches coming off the main trunk.
"Let’s see what you’ve got, Inventor.", Remi loads both rifles and hands one to Tryne. "Who can hit the most branches on the little guy down there."
Without any other words, the bounty hunter quickly fires off five rapid shots. With each round, a flash of bright red flame erupts from the end of the barrel. None of the spectators can see the munition fly through the air. The only indication of the bullets is two of the branches exploding and falling to the ground.

Tryne smiled as the bounty hunter casually hit the tree twice, "Not sure I have that kind of flare..." he joked.
He had examine this weapon for several hours, knew the magic elements which surged within it, knew the sites were perfectly aligned.
Tryne raised the weapon, propped himself up on the edge of the tower, his mind racing through calculations of range, the drop, the elevation of the tower, the size of the tree, the bird landing on the branch, the wind moving the branches... a million calculations.
First shot rang out - he'd pulled it - too tense firing the weapon - kick was more than he expected.
Recalculating, adjusting for the range - released a breath he had been holding
Second shot cleanly removed one of the branches - a slight smile
Third shot - damn bird had move scared by the shooting - getting cocky from the last one hitting
Pausing - calculating the oscillation of the moving branch, the sway of the tree, the time to impact
Forth shot removed another moving branch
He had the range now - Fifth shot catches another branch
Lowering the weapon, he brushed it almost affectionately "This baby has some punch."
He offered a hand to the bounty hunter - "Nice shooting - in a fight - I'd have been dead before my first shot."

Vice stands next to Lord Tornn, and tries to mimic Orakh's stance and voice without coming off as mocking, "Now Ms. Belaluur, as we have a moment, perhaps it's time to tell us the tale of your missing ear?"

Belaluur
She plays out the act of getting her ear removed. Her head jerks to the side as she shakes off the imaginary slash. "He took my ear.", she pauses for for dramatic effect, before thrusting her imaginary sword at the unseen opponent. "I took something far more valuable.", she grins menacingly at Vice and gives the gnome a sly wink. As if on cue, they hear Tryne's final shot in the tower above.
Orakh's men nod approvingly at the little goblin woman. Lord Tornn just smirks.
