Daylight begins to wane as the party continues down the road. Tryne and Torhak keep close watch from atop the cart. The crackling lightning illuminates the road ahead of them. It's only now that Torhak notices the hoofprints joining them on the trail. He's unsure where they came from, but the hair on his back begins to rise. He knows where they are going. Growing in the distance is a narrowing in the road as a second hill rises from the swamp on the left.

"There are hoofprints that have joined the tracks" Torhak said to Tryne, pointing them out.
OOC:
Can I make a check to identify what they might belong to? Are they 4 legged or two? Do they match my hoofies? Or smaller maybe like a Satyr or something like that?

Laulalith looks over Torhak's shoulder as he examines the tracks and places a light hand on his back. "I assume it's the tracks of someone heading for the ambush. Maybe Tarin's horse?"

Torhak easily recognizes the tracks as horse hooves. Six horses in fact. As they reach the pinch point in the road, Torhak can see where the ambushers dismounted. The tracks of two horses lead into the hill on the right, four disappear into the water on the left, seeming to head to the other hill.

He also notices only two of the sets seem to be returning in the opposite direction. No other tracks can be seen following.

Night is nearly upon them as they pass through the gap. In the fading light, evidence of a some sort of fight can be clearly seem. Arrows and crossbow bolts can be seen. Torhak's mark flashes in sharp pain as the vision floods his mind.
[ +- ] Torhak's Vision
A set of wagon tracks disappear into the swampy darkness to his left. Evidence of a chase can be seen.

"The grey dogs made it through a skirmish here and headed west over that hill" Torhak visibly squirms under the pain of his mark, he reaches up and rubs it with a meaty paw, as if that were going to resolve the pain, nothing ever resolved the pain. "It's getting dark though, it'll be harder to track"

"We cannot afford to wait," 37 states simply.

"Meepo agrees. We only have so much light left where everyone can see. We need to make up as much distance as possible"
Apr 12, 2025 10:06 am
Laulalith touches the front in of the cart, and the fender starts glowing with bright rose golden light. "We can make light in the darkness. There is no time to waste."
Apr 12, 2025 12:12 pm
Tryne keeps driving and following Kalli along the road. "Let's keep our eyes up also. We don't want to get ambushed ourselves because we are focused too much on the ground."

The driver makes sure his new rifle is close at hand in the event of something happening.

OOC:
We're following the wagon tracks into the swamp, not the road, right?
Apr 12, 2025 8:17 pm
"Wait, who can't see in the dark?" Vice ask, suddenly remembering that may be an issue for some. Especially if a battle breaks out in the night

OOC:
The tracks go over the hill, into the swamp.

I figured I’d let everyone weigh in. We’ll say you have half an hour of good light, before total dark.

We’ve also never really discussed this, but I’ll say the lightning of the cart gives a forty-five foot cone of bright light and ninety of dim light, if you wish to use it to search ahead.

Meepo takes off his mask as the sun sets. "I can definitely see better in the darkness than the bright light. If it is urgent enough to not check that last place it is probably good to press on in Meepo's opinion"

Meepo nods along to Trynes suggestion and looks out for any near ambushes

Tryne responded to the others, "I can see fine in the dark, but the front of the coach is lit up by the elemental. I'm less worried about seeing, and more concerned that this coach is a beacon to anything out here which just happens to look this direction. We are going to attract attention at night."

"We can keep going, but we need to remain alert."
Apr 13, 2025 5:32 pm
"Meepo, could you fly on ahead and keep an eye out for trouble in the dark? If you'll let me, I can turn you invisible, so trouble doesn't find you first."
Apr 14, 2025 2:01 am
Meepo thinks back to his vision as Laulalith mentions his broom, "Uhh hmm well" he looks around a little more nervously "Um i think my eyes would do really well down here. Um maybe when we get closer I dont want your spell to fade right before anything starts off after all."
Meepo looks at his broom for a second before putting it away and back out the window for anything unusual.
OOC:
DM the con check was just for myself to see how fearless/fearful Meepo was going to be.

Tryne turns the cart follow the trail. Daylight slowly fades into night over the next hour. The hill begins to narrow into peninsula which winds out into a deeper portion of the swamp. Less trees are visible in the darkness and large areas of swamp reveal the appearance of several red glowing eyes that quickly dart under the inky water and out of sight.

Tryne begins to feel an unease that they haven't encountered any sign of a fallen travellers. The memory of his vision begins to echo in his mind as Talon tugs at her ropes. Something in the swamp has her attention.
