37 sits quietly in the carriage, going over the professors notes and schematics in his head with the hopes of adapting some of it to his own armor.

Vice sits quietly, trying not squirm too much even though he doesn't like being cooped up in the cart for so long. He does look around often, ready to cast an illusion if need be.

Meepo checking out the window seeing if there are any dangers, anomalies and of course any interesting alchemy ingredients but trying to look at everything at once is not that feasible, especially in a mask he is not used to

Tryne finds the return trip much faster without having to travel over rocky hills or wait for the cart’s tracks to be covered by Meepo. In no time it seems, the looming wall of the Grey Mists can be seen clearly ahead. Talon sits dutifully behind the driver, keeping a wary eye on their surroundings.

Torhak seems particularly distracted. The minotaur has a few moments along the railway, where his mark sends waves of searing hot pain through his shoulder. At times, it’s nearly unbearable. The monochrome grey of the Mournland appears nearly red before him, seeming to drip with blood. Then, just as quick at it began, the pain is gone and all is as it was. The mechanical lion behind him, seems to take interest in his mark for a moment, but then returns to watching the horizon.

In the cart, 37 studies Professor Avgo’s notes and manuscripts. He realizes there isn’t much time before they are back in Salvation, but he does find some interesting information that might help enhance his natural armour. It would take some time, and gold, but it does seem feasible. He knows he’ll need to copy the notes for reference later, just in case Kalli’s patron claims the research for themselves.

Vice can’t help but squirm the whole way. Something in the voices is getting to him. At one point, a vivid flashback of a clown faced hydra flashes before his eyes. A faint whisper in the voices almost seems to laugh in delight before it fades in the distance, as does the hydra.

Meepo keeps an eye out the window of the cart. However, instead of finding any ingredients for his alchemy, he feels nauseous from the faster pace and rocking of the cart. The ground beneath him seems to spin a few times and he sits back in his seat until the queasiness passes.

Laulalith sits elegantly in the cart, enjoying the return trip more than the rest. The desolation is often interrupted by the strangest of shapes, like rolled and twisted molten rock, frozen in place. Hints of macabre beauty dotted throughout this wretched land. As they pass the edge of a ravine, she notices the first sign of anything resembling a river. She notes a flowing, inky black liquid. Even at this distance, the flow seems unnaturally slow and viscous. The ‘river’ flows deeper into the Mournland. She wonders where it would go, as the large cliffs to the east would obviously block its progress at some point. As the ravine fades from view, the elf notices a single rider on horseback, travelling behind them to the south. She’s uncertain how long he’s been there, but she’s nearly certain the rider is following them.

Around the same time, Tryne takes note of the rider as well. The figure seems to be keeping their distance. Talon sees her creator and turns her attention to track this stranger as well. The half-elf can see the mist is less the half an hour away now.

Tryne points out the rider to Torhak and calls out to the others. "We've got a rider out there again. I wonder if someone doesn't watch everyone coming and going in the Gray. Maybe the patrons are making sure they get their cut and no one is sneaking through. Everyone stay alert in case he causes trouble."

"We are coming up on the wall..." he eases up on the speed as they get closer "is leaving as bad as coming in? Do we want to make any preparation for this crossing?"

Remembering vividly the train illusion which nearly destroyed them on their way into the Gray

Meepo trys to look in the direction of the rider but catches himself for a moment as riding in the carriage is a bit more difficult than riding on an animal or riding on his broom.

"Well it's probably too late for an illusion now. Hopefully he is just making sure we pass safely"
Jan 17, 2025 8:54 pm
Laulalith calls out to Tryne "I want to find out who that is. Discretely." She follows the rider with her eyes for a moment. "Let's stop the cart and pretend to prepare for entering the Grey. Then one of us can slip away unnoticed and double back. An invisible scout on the broom should be both fast and safe." She looks around at her companions in the cart. "Don't one of you gentlemen feel an urgent need to water the non-existent vegetation before we proceed?"
OOC:
Did the cart ride count as a short rest.

OOC:
It’s been about two hours, not quite long enough for a short rest.

OOC:
Checking in, are you stopping, or are you going to continue to Salvation?
Jan 19, 2025 4:36 am
OOC:
i think we are stopping and seeing what that rider does, unless someone objects?
Jan 19, 2025 11:45 am
OOC:
Probably not the best idea, but stopping seems to be the general consensus.
Jan 19, 2025 12:02 pm
OOC:
I'm ok either way. Lali is just curious and a little paranoid. :)
The idea was: We stop and everybody gets out. We all get back in/on the cart. Lali makes the scout invisible inside the cart. The scout flies out before we close the door. The cart proceeds ahead and pauses for the scout to return before we enter the Grey.

By the way: when it's time to enter the Grey again, Lali will want to put bardic inspiration on 4 of the others.

OOC:

Tryne would vote for pushing for home and then checking with contacts about if anyone else has seen the riders.
