37 will say a brief mantra to clear his mind, before attempting to calculate the speed and direction of Dubdub based on the mystical glow, so if they lose sight he can direct the carriage on the most likely course to follow.
OOC:
Not sure if it would be investigation of perhaps Arcana (magical light from a magical creature, may not behave normally?) but the roll is the same either way.

As they drive through the darkness after the golden dragon, Laulalith's eyes turn black while she mutters incantation after incantation. Her magic causes disorienting images and sounds to manifest and mislead the pursuing swamp creatures.

Open water becomes clogged with non-existent rotting driftwood, or it turns to illusory dry land that forces the swimming creatures to take a detour away from the direct path to their prey.

In the water, unseen people scream and splash to attract the attention of the cursed swamp-dwellers and make them waste their time looking for victims that were never there.

Again and again, the progress of the cart is obscured by illusions, so the brief glimpses snatched by the swimming creatures show nothing but trees and shrubbery,
OOC:
Lali is running a full range of electronic warfare on the pursuing creatures.
Silent Image/minor illusion to create terrain features
Minor illusion to create disorienting noises
Rolling deception as Lali is trying to deceive them about our whereabouts.

As the others focus on thwarting those chasing them, Tryne focused instead on the coach itself. He had been examining and driving this coach for several days. Easing the controls, adjusting the steering, encouraging the elemental within the put out more power, pushing the coach to greater speed.

37 shows that he is an excellent navigator. Never losing sight of the dragon, he discovers a pattern to Dubdub’s flying, swooping in and out of the black leaves above. Despite the frequent moments where he seems to disappear from view, the Warforged intuitively is able to help guide the half-elf next to him.

All the while, they hear the random attacks taking place in the water on the side of them. Laulalith’s illusions seem to be working very well. There are fewer of the red eyes visible on their heels as the begin to put space between them.

Tryne instinctively follows the guidance of 37’s beside. His connection with the elemental within continues to grow. It dawns on him that while some within the group seemed to struggle with their magic within the swamp, the magic within the cart in unaffected. The Khoravar can feel an excitement within the sizzle of the lightning pulling the cart. Almost like a horse that revels in the speed with its rider. Tryne cannot help but share this exhilaration.

With just the three in the bouncing cart, they watch the night sky blink out of view as they pass large trees. Virtue begins to struggle more aggressively against her bindings. Leith tries to calm her as best he can.
OOC:
Four down, two to go.

Vice is up, with Torhak on deck.
May 5, 2025 5:27 am
Vice sticks head out of the window, and calls out to whatever animals are listening. It's a desperate plea, as this is a desperate situation. Dubdub, and I could use your assistance. Please, either help light our way or help hinder our foes."
OOC:
Hope this is ok, didn’t know what to roll. Hoping theres some sort of bioluminescent critter out there.

Vice calls out to the darkness and at first seems to receive no reply. The swamp indeed felled lifeless, save the monstrous creatures that pursue them.

However, the sweet smell of cinnamon begins to fill the air. The gnome recognizes the help from the tiny unseen grubs. Their fragrance forms a trail through the trees. With Vice’s guidance, the dragon and Stella pick up on the scent and follow it swiftly.

The swamp creatures fade further into the distance. Tryne knows they must be nearly to the ambush site.
OOC:
One more to go!

Torhak is up, with Meepo on deck.
May 6, 2025 8:52 pm
Torhak watches the group expertly handle navigating, protecting, and managing the threat. But all he can think about is that downed tree up ahead! If Tryne continued on his current path the right tire would clip it and this would all come to an end. "Tree!" he called out in his low and gruff voice as he rose to a semi standing position, he took his shield off his back and held it horizontally in front of him, then with an assertive throw he launched it, hoping to form a sort of ramp that would get the tires up and over the tree, and then he prepare to counter balance the carriage with his own weight to bring it back down on four wheels!
OOC:
Sorry thought I posted yesterday, I guess it didn't go through. If this is too much then we can retcon, just thought it would be fun. I am fully ready to lose my shield for this. Also not sure if this would be a ranged attack or an Athletics. I will roll Athletics as a hopeful

"There is no need to attack us. SHE sent us to deliver this water to the town."

The minotaur throws his shield ahead, attempting to ramp the cart over the fallen log. With a metallic **clang** and a flash of lightning, the cart crashes through the log. The noise attracts the attention of a nearby creature as the now dented shield flips through the air. As it disappears into the night, the giant hyena catches the shield in its mighty jaws. The hyena gallops along side the wagon, handing the dented, slobbery shield back to Torhak.

Meepo then waves the vial before the last remaining creature, trailing very far behind. The creature hears the kobold’s words and slows, before turning around d and disappearing into the swamp. Moments later, the group arrives at the ambush site. Now completely swallowed in darkness, with only the obscured, grey moons for light.

Dubdub
The dragon extinguishes the light as it touches down. "We bought ourselves time, but they may not give up so easily, especially if one of their own calls for them. She doesn’t have much time.", Dubdub gestures to Virtue in the coach with Vice and Leith.

Kalli Alran
Kalli stays mounted atop her steed. "We could make it to the hideout. It’s safe… kind of.", Kalli says, as she takes a sip from her canteen. She then offers a drink to Stella.
OOC:
You’ve escaped the creatures!

Let me know how you want to proceed. Do you head to the hideout, make for the bridge, or something else?
May 7, 2025 7:19 am
Laulalith joins Vice and the struggling Virtue in the cart. "I don't think she has time for a detour to the hideout. She needs a healer, soon."

She takes out her flute and looks thoughtfully at the cursed goblin. "Maybe I can give her a moment's release."

She puts the flute to her lips and starts playing a slow, but strong tune that fortifies the listeners. While she plays, she watches Virtue's reaction to learn more about the curse.
OOC:
Casting Protection from Evil on Virtue from Instrument of the Bards

Rolls

Arcana: Learn about the curse - (1d20+4)

(10) + 4 = 14

May 7, 2025 12:44 pm
Meepo looks around to the group. "No one here knows how to remove a curse right?" he then walks over to the axe beak and giant hyena to pet them and have them split one of his rations for a job well done.

"Meepo agrees with Laulalith. It might be best to find a healer sooner than later." he then turns to Kalli "are we looking for anyone else?"
May 7, 2025 1:17 pm
OOC:
Maybe someone with better Arcana than Lali can figure out more about the curse. Either way, I'll give it a weekly reroll..

Rolls

Arcana - weekly reroll - (1d20+4)

(14) + 4 = 18

Leith
Leith shakes his head gravely at Meepo, "There's no one else to look for, friend. Just me and Virtue that made it. And likely only because of Dubdub.", he says quietly.

Laulalith takes in the scrapper's words as she assesses the pale goblin. Heeding Dubdub's warning and Meepo's earlier conversation with the creature, she already knows that the water will change Virtue into one of these cursed abominations. The water clearly is driving Virtue to drink more and she knows this must not happen at all costs. The elf is almost certain that if Virtue were to drink any more, she would be under the control of this 'She'. Concern rises in the elf as she recognizes that Virtue will not drink normal water and has not done so recently. Without water, no one can survive. At most, Virtue has two days to find a proper healer that can remove a curse. She would also know, this is not a cheap endeavor. With these revelations, she now understands why there have been no obvious living creatures. Any creature of consequence that drinks the water, would carry the same curse... and transition.

Kalli Alran
Kalli, sits in silence at Leith's words for a moment, "The only healer I know that can remove a curse is in Salvation. Mother Jahanah. Arythawn does not have such a healer. But Salvation is two days away."
May 7, 2025 8:08 pm
"Then we need to drive day and night to get to Salvation. Virtue will not drink, and she will die of thirst if we don't hurry."
May 7, 2025 8:18 pm
"Is it possible that beyond the wall the curse won't progress?" Torhak knew nothing of removing curses, he knew a few rites of blood letting used to cleanse disease but nothing for curses.
May 7, 2025 8:53 pm
Vice's fear and concern is showing as many questions; "Will she service for two days? Will a healing potion help at all? Can I afford the cost to remove a curse? Is it safe travel at night? How much longer can Tryne drive without rest?"
May 7, 2025 9:06 pm
Meepo turns to Vice. "Well maybe some can rest in the carriage while Tryne drives and then we can trade out drivers. Sure they might not be as fast but it's better than nothing"

Meepo then turns to Dubdub. "Will you join us on our trip back to town?"
May 7, 2025 9:53 pm
"Anyone can drive the cart, but the elemental is temperamental, so you would have to go slow. 37 does not sleep, so maybe he can drive for a bit. Kalli's horse will need breaks though, which the coach will not, well at least as far as I know - I do not think the elemental will tire."

"I cannot think of any magic which would help, I know some runes to purge poison, but not a curse."

He thinks for another moment, "I'm not sure we have much choice - we have to try - and if Sanctuary is the only option then that is where we need to go."
May 7, 2025 11:26 pm
Dubdub
The dragon "I will gladly join you on your journey to Salvation and do what I can for the little one. I cannot hold this form forever, but I will for as long as I can.", Dubdub says. "I’ve never seen anyone try to make it out of the Grey with the swamp’s curse, but I have no reason to doubt that its effects would linger beyond them."

Kalli Alran
Kalli nods grimly, "Stella can make it to the mists.", she says hesitantly, "But you’ll have to traverse the Thornwood on your own."
OOC:
Tryne would absolutely know by now that the elemental never needs rest. He would also know that without attuning to the elemental within, driving would be difficult.
