@Totes_McGee I was thinking that she had the sort of wealth one might expect from Matthew Murdock, i.e., the air conditioner once worked, long ago. She owns her own business but it's just starting up.

Perhaps she's richer than all that but is isolated from her money?

Quick sketch, I know his shoes don't match. Costume color is kind of a navy blue with gold accents, brown hair

Superhero Name: Rebound
Real Name: Derek O'Shay

At a science expo, Derek O'Shay was arguing with another student that a device that siphons kinetic energy from a parallel dimension doesn't qualify as a "perpetual motion device" when the the sinister agents of SERPENT (that's the Society of Evil Reptile People Engaging in Nefarious Tasks for those of you at home) blew the front off of the venue. Derek was thrown into the machine, which malfunctioned, and in doing so permanently bound his body to the kinetic flow of another world before SERPENT stole his buddy (along with a number of other young scientific prodigies).

Wearing a mask to protect his identity, Rebound has been on the super-science crime beat ever since. Unmasking android infiltrators, injecting retromutagens in malicious mutates, punching up power armored punks, his quest to rescue his friend from the coils of SERPENT has kept the battling bouncer on the move

Bouncing Kinetic Hero: 4
- Superhuman Reflexes & Agility, Kinetic Manipulation, 360 degree Kinetic Awareness
Banter and Blather: 3
- If being a streamer has taught Derek any kind of life skill, it's how to yap in high intensity situations. It distracts foes, endears with bystanders, and most importantly engages with the opposition as people. Give people a window to talk back, and they'll almost always want to share their story, and that frequently means they let slip something useful.
Budget Gadgeteer: 2
- Rebound might not have access to a super advanced lab, but he is surprisingly talented at repurposing busted consumer electronics and scrapyard materials into superhero gear.
Hold Down An Actual Job: 1
- Streamer, Cellphone Repair Guy, Uber Eats Delivery: Superheroing might not pay the bills, but in the gig economy nobody thinks twice about a guy juggling five jobs with flexible schedules.

Gear: Kevlex bodysuit, blunt steel 4" diameter throwing discs, radio tracers, mask comms w/ police scanner and spotify, camera, disposable handcuffs.

I'm going with...

drumroll

...@Celestine!

I'll send you an invite shortly.

Thanks for the interest, @Qralloq!
Feb 22, 2025 9:39 pm
I would have suggested you take her over me, so glad you did!
Feb 23, 2025 11:35 pm
Suddenly the calf muscle quotient in the game went *way* up! (Dig the sketch, Cel!)

Just reading this thread for the superhero character ideas has been a blast for me! 😁
Feb 24, 2025 10:18 pm
And these demanding players with their well-crafted backstories probably expect me to create character-specific missions for them, don't they?!

....

Well, I will! And I'll like it!
Mar 10, 2025 9:14 pm
A subatomic shrinker spent decades (yes, decades!) down in that microscopic realm, and now she's out of sync with reality itself! I mean, has she never read Boyd's Quantum Paradox?!

Help her...do something? It's unclear how the team is gonna tackle this problem, but it'll likely involve high-tech construction, possibly theft, a lot of pseudo-scientific terms, multiversal shenanigans, and maybe a rapacious mega-corporation!

The application process is the same as before: submit a character concept, complete with dice distribution and gear. An avatar image is also appreciated. We need one more!

I'll be gone Tuesday and possibly Wednesday, but I'll be back to check applications/questions after that!

I love psuedoscience nonsense. I hope you like dumb superheroes.

Tomo (alias pending)
Immortal Me 4
Tomo has the ability to respawn after she dies, walking out from around a corner and looking at her own corpse curiously. Possessing absurdly bad luck, the immortality comes in handy for the stray falling flower pot...or grand piano...or hotdog cart. While Tomo doesn't know how she got her immortality, she's gotten used to it. Death, the great equalizer, doesn't faze her anymore, contributing to a listless personality.
Immortal Me(s) 4
Sometimes when Tomo respawns, more than one Tomo spawns! The extra Tomo(s) go off to live their own boring life. As such, there are quite a few Tomos running around. Spend time in the city and you'll notice Tomos around town doing mundane things like working the counter at the coffee shop or washing their clothes at the laundromat. Tomos keep in touch through an evergrowing group chat.
Lawyer's Pet 2
This iteration of Tomo took up work as a lawyer's assistant. It was quickly discovered by that ambulance chasing lawyer that Tomo's bad luck and functional immortality makes her a cash cow. However, there was a law quickly passed to stop Tomo specifically from exploiting that loophole. In response, the lawyer is in the middle of filing a class action lawsuit on the behalf of all Tomos for discrimination. So, she, and every other Tomo, will be seeing a 7 dollar check in the mail about 12 or so years from now. For now, the lawyer laid off Tomo until the law's repealed and he can make money off of her again. In the interim, Tomo somehow ends up in the superhero life through a string of improbable misfortunes, so that's what she's doing.

Jamie Madrox meets the Nameless One.

Definitely intriguing, but I'm wondering how her cliches will play out.

What does losing dice mean to someone who's immortal? If she's at Immortal Me (1), what would that look like?

How does she attack enemies? Jump in like Wolverine, without care for bodily harm? Is killing herself repeatedly (and hopefully spawning an extra Tomo) how she handles fights?

How do the other Tomos help Lawyer Pet Tomo, if they're elsewhere? (I can see this being an inappropriate cliche, where she phones-a-duplicate to ask them for info she doesn't have. In the comics, Madrox sends his dupes out to learn different things, then acquires their information/skills when he re-absorbs them.)

And I'm wondering how I can challenge your character narratively. As written, she can just sigh and shrug off most threats.

Her main weakness is that she's only human, unlike the other supers. That definitely applies to her physical capabilities, but also mental ones as well. You know how supers have indomitable willpower, fighting against all odds? That's not Tomo. If she's at Immortal Me (1), she is on the verge of giving up, with all the casualness of someone dropping an attempt to pick up a hobby after too many setbacks.

Also, she has really, really bad luck.

For other Tomos, yeah, I imagine them helping her out with info or whatever menial job they happen to have. An example I thought of is a locked door to the supervillain lair, and Tomo asking the group chat if there are any Tomos working as a goon, asking them to come down and unlock the door for her.

That is so comically morbid! Do the bodies dissipate, or does Tomo basically keep donating herself to science?

Also, while you may not have intended this, I now FINALLY understand this TMBG lyric:

If I were a carpenter I'd
Hammer on my piglet, I'd
Collect the seven dollars and I'd
Buy a big prosthetic forehead
And wear it on my real head

A class action suit! Finally, this song makes a tiny bit of sense now. Just that one line.
Mar 12, 2025 10:28 pm
I have no idea what the lines are for violence/gore in the game, but I imagine the bodies do stay there. It gives her the option of solving problems with a mountain of bodies, or alternatively end up blocking her own way with one.

Funny coincidence about the song, I hadn't heard it before. Listening to it now, yeah, I understand nothing else about the song, lol.

@saevikas: Welcome to the team! I'll send out an invite shortly.

We had another player leave, so we need a replacement.

The application process is the same as before: submit a character concept, complete with dice distribution and gear. An avatar image is also appreciated.

@saevikas: Sex/gore info below. Copied from the game's original listing.

Sexual Content: Intimacy is allowed, but not erotic roleplay. Once the clothes would start coming off, fade to black. Think of what a PG-13 movie would allow. If you have questions, ask me, or just fade to black to be safe.

Darker Stuff: Things like torture, mass killing, slavery, etc. may be present, but there won't be gratuitous descriptions.

PG-13 or thereabouts, basically.

If you're still looking for a player... can I introduce Blended.
Cape name: Blended.

Real name: Uhhh... can I say redacted? Is that allowed?

Background: I woke up one day and I was... dead? But like not. There were colours, and reality kinda wasn't real. Anymore. Its hard to explain when I don't remember anything specific except I was a person when I went to sleep and now I'm not. In the conventional sense. When it happened the government tried to take me in, contain me. They put me in a box, and put that box in another box. I wore shackles of some advanced supertech, and then found myself sitting in a shack in the Swiss Alps because someone accidentally built a teleporter out of a ski lift.

Things happen to me. It's like reality forgot me one day and is now struggling to make up for my existence. Usually I bleed colours, or people's perception of time goes all weird. Sometimes the world turns into a poorly programmed video game and cars clip through the floor. On the weirdest days something will irreversibly shift around me; a person's entire world line changes as they fall through a glitch in the space time continuum meant for me. No idea.

All I know is if I concentrate really hard, I can get things to sort of go my way. I would say I have a power which is "luck" but if I'm being honest my power is hoping really, really hard that nothing terrible happens to good people. Might as well stick around with the people who do have powers and hope they can mitigate the crazy, right?

Powers:
[ +- ] Improbability (4)
[ +- ] Freaky (2)
[ +- ] Tired (2)
[ +- ] Stuntman (2)

And now for a disclaimer; I'm not the fastest poster with a lot of stuff going on irl at the moment, so if that's not great for the game no worries, otherwise I'll do my best to be consistent!

@Tickettbror: Over time, I have had to replace several players due to lack of activity, so that's a concern.

Can you muster roughly 5 posts a week?
Mar 14, 2025 8:11 pm
I should be able to, yeah. I may not be able to be super detailed every time, every week, but if for whatever reason I couldn't one week I'd let you know. Still, if you'd rather keep looking I'd understand!
Mar 14, 2025 8:45 pm
Got it. 👍

I'm gonna leave this open for a few more days to see if anyone else bites. Then I'll review everything again and make a decision.

That work for you?
Mar 14, 2025 9:03 pm
Of course! If someone more suitable comes along there's no hard feelings.
