As in a fresh start, rebooting back to Roland Emmerich's film.

I would intend to preserve the dark and deep storyline presented. But like so many of the actors of SG-1 suggest do my own thing.

Namely I would place the Stargate program in the hands of civilians, making The Doctor Daniel Jackson a billionaire. Naturally the military would be involved but I find the restrictions of the military would chaffe creativity.

I am not an Egyptologist either, so maybe I would change the Stargate to something Sumerian/Akkadia, maybe something based on Kalevala, or even go to Scythian as I know a lot more about these myths and languages than anything Coptic.

I would also like to do something from later seasons SG-1 and get input on player related subplots, written at least in part by the player. Provided of course, that the players go to the end of their first deadly mission in the heart of the unknown.

As for rules, I am thinking something very lite. 2 stats, one for combat, the other for everything else.

Any interest?

Would have thought this would have attracted some interest.

The premise does look interesting, but the rules are too light for my liking. You could still run this with something not so light, like FU, Fate or Cortex Lite.

I am still interested. Hope there are a few more SG crew members, though.

The purpose of this checking interest thread is to gather feedback, respond, and set expectations. While I loved Stargate SG-1, it just became another D&D clone as the seasons progressed. There are other, better ways, of showcasing the heroes' journey. That is why I want to stick away from a militaristic Stargate - though obviously they will be a part of the story. Having the program run by civilians opens up opportunity that is otherwise unavailable. The militaries of Earth use many rocket propulsion systems, but the best rocket was funded and invented by a civilian. The military is quite good at logistics, but compared to Amazon? See where I am going here?

The answer is simple. If you change the process you change the results. We have thousands of years of story already. You know some, I know some, we call it ancestry. The Stargate was always about the oldest stories humans wrote. Who was Marduk? Where did Tiamat come from? What does it mean to be human since we can be both?

The idea of rules is to provide a framework to build upon. I had in mind something like Fate's stunt mechanics. A way to add utility without unnecessary weight dragging creativity down. A lighter framework just means there is less gambling with dice. Where a more rigidly defined set of rules can narrow the scope.

We can always add more rules to a rules light system. We cannot remove rules generally.

You will be a welcome addition. I was aiming for 6 though 4 would be my mandatory minimum. More than 6 is too much, people get paralyzed with indecision.

I'm interested! Is the system a variation on laser's and feelings? I can commit to posting every 1 to 2 days although with the holidays coming up that might end up being every one to 3 days.

Maybe? I was going to shamelessly steal from 3:16 Carnage amongst the stars.

Do I need to know the Stargate universe at all before declaring interest? I like the rules light nature. You have piqued my interest.

I like rules light and interested, but would probably need guidance and trying out the system to understand how to play for me. Also, I have only seen the one Stargate movie. I like the idea of going with a different setting as well! I can post up to 5 times a week.

Should be fairly friendly and easy to pick up. No knowledge of stargate is required, though I would recommend watching Roland Emmerich's movie.

Looks like we got 5, lets call it a compromise. I will get up to writing the preamble over the course of the weekend. Call a very soft start of December 1st.

As this is my first game I will need to acquaint myself with the website a little. Please don't hesitate to point out any issues with my participation as this is new for me (I pretty much exclusively solo normally)

Don't worry, I will be gentle.
