Maenor has traveled a lot, but animals are not his specialty. He always has appreciated four-footed help in carrying his gear, though. He is drawn to the same animal as Coda.

Geno hangs back and watches. He's never been good with horses, and even if he were... he doubts they'd be amenable to the powers he harbors now.

The stablehand speaks the truth, and even Kalis is able to determine that all three mules are strong and hardy. Maenor is drawn to the one named Maribel, but can't quite explain why. That is, until Coda makes it known privately to the group that Maribel's disposition would be very easy to work with on the road, provided she is cared for properly. You select Maribel and part with the gold, and as a special the stablehand throws in a free bag of feed, which will last approximately 5 days if rationed carefully.

After securing your belongings amongst yourselves and upon your new pack mule, you are ready to proceed. From this point, you can easily see the well-worn trail that extends east across the distant Giyne Veldt to the horizon, a clear path taken by caravans and other travelers.
OOC:
Determine a marching order, and watch order for camp. If there's something your character wants to do during the journey, whether on the road or at camp, let me know.

OOC:
If possible, i'd like to buy 10 more days of feed. In the phb it's labeled 1 day costs 5 cp, so the total comes out to 5 sp.
Marching order, i'll stay by Maribel's side so what ever order she gets put at and Coda will take first watch if that is okay with everyone.

OOC:
Good idea, HypCo.
I'll take second watch, and can take point or bring up the rear

OOC:
I'll take watch after Maenor, and I'm going to spend the time whittling some small wooden dice.

OOC:
Kalis will take whatever watch remains, and will walk in the center of the group. He's going to spend his time writing a story on the paper he brought (he's not sure what the story will be about)
Oct 31, 2016 2:30 pm
OOC:
Yeah, Geno sticks behind Kalis and will take any remaining watch.
Oct 31, 2016 5:40 pm
OOC:
Excellent. You now have 15 days' worth of feed.

After applying some logic to the marching order, I have the following:
Maenor
Daniel (blind)
Kalis
Geno
Coda & Maribel

Same for the watch order, assuming 2-hour shifts:
1st: Coda
2nd: Maenor
3rd: Daniel (blind), Kalis
4th: Geno

Adjust yourselves as you see fit!

The trail is wide and well-traveled, but you see no traffic in your first few days. The flat grasslands of the Giyne Veldt offer little scenery except for a few rolling hills off in the distance. During this time, your pack mule proves very capable even though she isn't laden heavily, and Maribel is very cooperative and goes where needed.

You've made good progress and on the third night, you pull off the main road some distance to make camp. There is little cover by way of tree or hillside, unfortunately, but the weather does not appear foreboding and the winds are calm. It looks like it will be another peaceful night as you settle in for another meal of dry rations and water, while Maribel stands off to the side with her nose buried in a feed bag.

You have nestled within your bedrolls as the night grows and the warmth of the fire becomes comfortable. Coda sets himself up for the first watch.
OOC:
Coda, please make a Perception check

"You can sleep well, friends, knowing that Coda is on the job."
OOC:
Okay, I haven't gotten the chance to update my character sheet since the bag of feed, so three days have passed so I mark off three food rations, leaving 12?

OOC:
You are also traveling through the grassland. We can assume that you let the mule graze at times to supplement the feed and stretch your supply, so while you're in this environment one day's worth of feed will last you two.
It has been an hour into Coda's watch. The wind has died down such that even the tall grasses appear to have gone to sleep. Only the light snap of the fire sparks through the air, almost loud in spite of itself.

Both Coda and Maribel perk up from a barely noticeable difference in the area. It is hard to pin down, but taking cues from Maribel's change in demeanor, Coda senses that something is amiss. Steadying himself and attuning to his surroundings, the bard attempts to figure out the cause.

It starts as a small thump, like a faint heartbeat. It is slow, but constant, and there's a weight to it that calls to mind something big, something with stride. And it's coming closer.

OOC:
Does it seem to be coming through the forest or from the trail?
Nov 2, 2016 12:25 am
OOC:
It is coming from the wilderness, away from the trail.
Nov 2, 2016 12:38 am
Coda groans to himself "Why did something have to happen on my watch." while pulling out his signal whistle and resting it in his lips. He pets Maribel, in hopes to calm her a little, and whispers "Ishs going to be okay." He waits for the noise to get a little closer before blowing the whistle.
Nov 2, 2016 12:40 am
The sound continues, and does seem like it is getting closer. Almost like the sound (or source of the sound) is making a bee-line for the camp.
Nov 2, 2016 12:51 am
Coda grabs his whistle and gives three short bursts of air, resulting in three short, shrill whistles Preet, Preet, Preet! Coda quickly throws his whistle back into his pocket, grabs his lute from the ground and holds in out with the handle pointing towards the noise.
