Episode 1: The Salvaged Job

As the hobgoblin rides past, Kalis' swing nearly takes off its head as the quarterstaff comes around to smash into the helmet. The horse continues past, now riderless as the hobgoblin falls to the ground, its body bouncing a few feet from the momentum in unnatural ways.

Coda's voice seem to affect the bugbear this time, giving it pause momentarily as it deciphers the halfling's play on words. This moment is all Kalis needed as his magical bolts zip around the shield to strike the bugbear's chest. With a blurt of surprise, the bugbear spasms under the onslaught, and sinks to its knees before falling face-first into the ground.
OOC:
Only the swordsman is left.

Actions left to take:
Daniel
Geno
Maenor
Dec 18, 2016 11:47 pm
Daniel retrieves his sword and moves behind Maenor, ready to strike should the hobgoblin try another attack. "Let's try to not let this one get away, shall we?"
OOC:
Readying an action to attack when it's in range, and using Maenor as cover.
Dec 20, 2016 2:37 pm
Geno faces the swordsman wreathed in his infernal armor. He fires a blast of eldritch energy at the remaining hobgoblin, hoping to topple him before he closes the distance.

"Indeed. We should catch the horses as well, else they will go home and give us away. They may also carry answers to our many questions." His calm demeanor makes what happens next all the more surprising as he begins running toward the charging swordsman.
OOC:
Dash action: 60 feet

Maenor dashes ahead on a glorious charge toward the mounted swordsman. As the elf and hobgoblin close in on each other, a blast of arcane power pierces the air above Maenor to strike the hobgoblin full in the chest. The sheer impact causes the hobgoblin to lose its sword as it struggles to remain in the saddle and hold the reins.
OOC:
Player turn!

I considered Geno's Eldritch Blast to be a held action, since the hobgoblin was 210 feet away and wouldn't yet be in range. It is now 90 feet from the party, and 30 feet away from Maenor.

Ready to end this, Kalis sends a single bolt of fire at the swordsgoblin.

Rolls

Fire Bolt - (1d20+5, 1d10)

Geno moves 30 ft. forward, ready to unleash the arcane fire.
OOC:
Dang. I didn't realize he was so far away still. Whoops. I think I can fire from 60 ft. though!

OOC:
Do I see any of the horses?
Dec 20, 2016 8:33 pm
The sorcerer proves to be the bane of these goblinoids this day, and his blast of fire flings the hobgoblin's lifeless body to the ground.

All three horses are in view. Bereft of riders, they slow to a stop with deep breaths, nearly exhausted after their mile-long run.
OOC:
Combat over!

Also, even though I'm using milestone leveling, you've successfully navigated around many obstacles and roleplayed beautifully. You all advance to level 2!
Dec 20, 2016 8:40 pm
Coda hops off Maribel and gives her a handful of feed and some head rubs. Taking two handfuls of feed, he makes his way over to one of the horses and places one of the handfuls of food about 10 feet away from it and steps back about 10 feet from that and opens the other handful of feed and holds it up in the air.
OOC:
Is it level automatically or after a short/long rest?
Dec 20, 2016 8:46 pm
OOC:
You may apply the level immediately.

Also, make an Animal Handling roll for this particular horse. If anyone else wants to approach the other horses, you may also make Animal Handling rolls.
Dec 20, 2016 8:50 pm
OOC:
If level is immediate, I get Jack of All Trades.

Rolls

Animal Handling - (1d20+4)

(13) + 4 = 17

Daniel goes to retrieve his dagger, flipping it in his hands a few times before returning it to his belt and turning his attention to the bodies.
OOC:
Using whichever is more applicable.

Rolls

Investigation - (1d20+5)

(8) + 5 = 13

Perception - (1d20+7)

(16) + 7 = 23

Kalis lets a deep breath out after the last goblinoid falls. He feels less now that he's released his hold of his draconic power, but forces himself to push the feelings aside. I WILL control this power that I have, I will not let it control me, he thinks to himself.

"Everyone ok?" he asks, looking around at his companions.
Dec 20, 2016 9:02 pm
Kalis approaches a different horse, trying to ease any fear it may have at his presence. It sure would be nice to not have to walk anymore.
OOC:
Can kill EVERYTHING, but can't calm a horse down. Must be that dragon heritage, I guess

The horse before Coda doesn't seem interested in the feed right now, but it stands there watching the halfling with some interest. It was the mount for the first hobgoblin that fell, and it breathes heavily, resting from its high exertion. Unfortunately, Kalis approaches the horse of the recently-slain archer, and with adrenaline still high it bucks and trots away to gain some distance from the group.

Daniel inspects the body of the bugbear, the closest creature near his dagger. The bugbear has a poorly-fitted and haphazardly-constructed suit of hide armor. It was armed with a morningstar and a scorched and dented shield remains strapped to its arm. A coin purse containing 12 silver and 5 gold pieces is found on its body.

Coda gives the feed he is holding to Maribel, waves his hand and recites a few incantations, then slowly approaches the horse with his hand up. "It's okay," he says, a bit confused, wondering if his spell worked "I wouldn't dream of harming you. I guess food is kind of silly after the run you just did, water would probably be more appreciated." Coda smiles at the horse as he pulls his waterskin out. "It isn't much...probably not enough to quench your thirst..." Coda grins as a thought crosses his mind "But if you come with us, we can find a body of water and we can protect you." he stops about 10 feet from it, and uncorks the waterskin and holds it forward in an offering manner.

The horse regards Coda and the halfling's 'words,' which to the party sound like a halfling making horse noises. Finally, the mare snorts, flaring her nostrils and stamping her hoof.

Maenor slows his run to a walk as he sees the last hobgoblin fall. He approaches the final horse slowly, holding out his hand for a sniff and speaking gently in Elvish, "There now, rest easy, today is a day most fortunate. Your cruel masters have fallen and you will be protected and cherished." He silently calls on his goddess to help him understand how to calm the animal.
