"They ambush and attack caravans. Those that resist are slain," the goblin continues, nodding toward the bodies. "The rest are taken prisoner, along with their spoils. This was perhaps their best raid, for there were twelve wagons."
Jan 17, 2017 11:54 pm
Maenor frowns and asks, "Which direction do they take the prisoners? And what by the heavens are 'dog men'?"
Jan 18, 2017 12:12 am
"Into the desert," answers the goblin. "As to your other question, I know not what they may be called by elves or men. They look like dogs that walk on two legs.

"If you are satisfied with these answers, I will leave you be."
They wait, ready to depart, for your dismissal.

OOC:
Is there something I could roll to figure out what he means by dog men?

OOC:
You can roll Nature.

"I can't think of any others." Coda says as he stands and extends a hand towards the goblin "I appreciate your time and want to apologize for my suspicions, hopefully you understand why I had them and can forgive me."

OOC:
Sorry, mouse likes to double click with the slightest press, delete this either.
My roll should be +3 as well, forgot about Jack of all trades.

For Coda and Daniel, the description of dog-men calls to mind lycanthropes and shapeshifters, where stories of such beings depict them as beasts that walk upright. Either that, or gnolls, who are more hyena-like but do have some similarities.

"You have granted us knowledge, little man, I believe to the best of your ability. I...thank you for that." Maenor seems to struggle with this last part, reluctant to praise a race he despises. He turns to his comrades. "We should treat him with honor and let him go."
Jan 18, 2017 6:21 pm
The white-haired goblin almost starts to shy away from the extended hand, eyeing Coda and Maenor for a moment. They seem to come to a conclusion, and gingerly clasp the halfling's hand.

The goblin studies all of you, mulling things over in contemplation. Finally, they hesitantly ask, "What... will you do now?"
Jan 18, 2017 11:14 pm
Coda smiles as he shakes the goblin's hand, releasing it after a few hearty shakes "See if anything remains of what we came here for, if not, probably go after these Dog-Men you spoke of." he strokes his beard with a smile before something clicks in his head "If you are asking about your fate, you are free to return to your people."
OOC:
Can I insight check him? It might be a little late but to check if he was truthful about the Dog-Men being the cause of this. If it is too late then use the roll for his demeanor or something.

Rolls

Insight - (1d20+4)

(10) + 4 = 14

The white-haired goblin does not appear deceptive in their mention of "dog-men." Coda figures that the goblin's initial defensiveness might have been borne out of a need to ensure the safety of their people, since they seem more engaged now that they are alone. Coda definitely gets the sense that the white-haired goblin is studying the demeanor of the party at this very moment.

"I see," they say, concluding something based on Coda's statement. "You were expecting these wagons?"

They squint at you, thoughtfully. "Hm... yes, perhaps."
Jan 19, 2017 12:17 am
Maenor starts, his eyes going wide, but stays silent.
Jan 19, 2017 2:09 am
"We were tasked to guard a wagon, so I'm sure you can see our predicament." Coda smiles, although there is a sense of sadness to it "Perhaps?"
Jan 19, 2017 6:16 am
"You bear the garb of adventurers, yes? You are... capable?" asks the goblin. "You might actually succeed in defeating the dog-men and their master. Yet if you fail, it will undoubtedly come back to me and my people..." The white-haired one shows obvious hesitation as they perform numerous mental calculations.
Jan 19, 2017 8:16 am
"I think we've done rather well for ourselves on the journey here but I also don't want to put your people in danger. What are your thoughts?" Coda addresses the goblin with a cocked eyebrow.
Jan 19, 2017 9:42 am
Maenor speaks gently, "If you have information that could aid us, you improve the chances we will defeat them. It sounds to me like that is both of our best interests."
Jan 19, 2017 4:14 pm
"I know where they lair," says the white-haired goblin. "But I will not guide your journey only for you to be captured and made to reveal who helped you. As capable as you may be, if you are taken prisoner you stand no chance of resisting the will of their master.

"Perhaps a test? Yes, if you prove yourselves against the unseemly one, you would do much to ease my misgivings. What say you?"
