Even as he speaks, Maenor sees movement out of the corner of his eye. Down the eastern hallway, the cleric can see the bodies of several jackalweres standing up. Roused by the lamia's roar, they seem aware that there was battle, and bark and yip excitedly as if to warn others.

However, the two creatures closest to Maenor stare silently at the crumpled corpse of the lamia. Having witnessed the fatal blow, they look to Maenor and the bloody blade and seem hesitant to make any move.
OOC:
Still in "combat" rounds, so Coda and Kalis have turns. The jackalweres have not taken actions yet.

OOC:
Maenor, go ahead and post any actions or movement you'd like to perform. The map shows where the jackalweres are, who are in the process of standing.

Maenor straightens and flicks his blade clean. He stares at the two jackalweres intently as he calls out to their comrades, "Your master is dead. Do not oppose us, or you will meet his fate. Leave now, and no more need die today."

The nearest jackalwere snarls, baring its teeth. It looks as Kalis joins Maenor. "You. Let us go?" it barks. The other jackalweres approach from the far chambers, some with scimitars drawn.

Maenor frowns in confusion and replies, "That's what I said."

He turns to Kalis, "That is what I said, is it not? I tried to use smaller words, like you taught me."

Kalis nods, "That's what you said alright," then turns to the monsters, pointing at the one that spoke, "Go and live. Stay and die. Choose now!"

As he points toward the one that spoke, sparks fly from his fingers for emphasis.

The first jackalwere flinches as the sparks crack, and the second takes a step back.

A third jackalwere approaches from the far room. "They are two. We are six. We kill, eat." This seems to bolster the creatures, but not enough to actively step closer to you.
Mar 9, 2018 8:11 pm
Coda steps beside Maenor and Kalis "Three. And us three just slayed a beast much larger than you, much fiercer than you, much more clever than you. Numbers cease to be advantageous through underestimating. We don't want to fight, we only came for items that were stolen from us. You don't want to fight, you only want food. We have common ground—my friend speaks the truth—no more blood needs to be shed today. You want food, I see an already prepared feast, no hunting required, no risk of death involved. We give you that in exchange for our items back."

"And think, mutts," comes another voice, as the cook you've met previously makes an appearance at the far end of the rooms, "all those men out on patrol now are free from The Master's grip. Maybe they're coming back, and do you think they'll be happy?"

The jackalweres looks to each other, mutterings and growls indicating a rough conversation. Finally, one of the jackalweres turns back to you and yips, "We go. You no follow, no kill." The humanoid canids step carefully past you, keeping their distance, as they make their way into the larger chamber and down the west tunnel.

When the last jackalwere has left, the man leans against the wall and clutches his head, evidently suffering some kind of headache. The smoke that fills the rooms leaves a haze, but the air is not suffocating. A quick glance into the once-luxuriant chamber shows that most of the fabric has burned away, leaving little fuel for the fire to spread.
OOC:
The jackalweres exited through the arrows (C-11) on the map.

Coda turns and smiles at the man "Welcome back to the land of the free-willed. Do you recall anything or is it sort of a blank void? Don't overexert yourself though, if you need a moment, by all means, take it."
Mar 12, 2018 2:37 am
Kalis sighs in relief; he hadn't been looking forward to more fighting. More than willing to let Coda handle the cook, he leans against a wall and closes his eyes for a moment to relax.
Mar 12, 2018 9:49 am
Maenor likewise withdraws from the conversation, murmuring quietly as he presses a hand on his wound.

The man shakes his head, either in response to Coda's question or to clear mental cobwebs. "I remember fine," he says. "Thank you. That monster had me enthralled to serve him and his minions in the kitchen. I was forced to prepare non-poisonous food at specific times, or I would suffer intense pain.

"There were others with me, and some that have been here before. What I said was true; those men went out into the desert to patrol the monster's territory, or to scout for caravans to raid. I don't know if they're actually coming back, though."

The man coughs, waving away some of the smoke that wafts through the room. "I'm not much of a warrior. I drove wagons for a caravan. I thought the beast would eat me, but I was fortunate it saw other uses for me."
Mar 12, 2018 11:25 pm
"You're very lucky indeed," agrees Kalis, "What do you plan to do now?"
Mar 13, 2018 12:36 am
"I guess I'll see if there's any horses or anything," says the man. "Otherwise I'll have to walk back to Frysor."
Mar 13, 2018 5:03 am
"You drove wagons for a caravan...any wicker baskets for sale?" Coda stares at the man intently.
Mar 13, 2018 7:11 am
The man blinks. "What? No. I only drive, I don't sell. Master Sinik would have been responsible for that, but he died in the attack. I don't remember loading any baskets, though."
Mar 13, 2018 9:11 am
Coda scratches his head, a bit confused "Do you know where they kept the things they stole from the caravans?" He turns towards his group "Do we even know what we are looking for?"
