Hey, everyone. I recently came upon a game system called Tango. I'm really wanting to try it out. Here are the rules:

Tango Rules

It's not very complex; in my mind, the system has just the right amount of crunch. Let's try it and find out what its pros and cons are!

I'm not sure what the setting will be, yet. Thankfully this system can be adapted to pretty much anything.

If you're interested, please post in the thread with a setting idea and a general character idea.

I'm also open to the idea of playing with characters and settings from popular franchises. I'd have a lot of fun playing a game in the Marvel Comics, Star Wars, Elder Scrolls, or Warhammer 40K universes, to name a few.

Ooh, this system does look curious, if a little too simplistic for my personal taste at a first glance. I'd like to try it nevertheless! Although only if the posting rate is going to be 2- 3 posts per week at most, I'm afraid I'm not consistent with faster ones. :)

If that's okay, I'd love to play something where I can use one of my old characters. Specifically, I have these I want to return to: a raccoon thief, a Jedi weapon master, a Jedi padawan, a dwarf ship engineer, a rogue AI android, a cyborg space mercenary, a fairy dragon(born), a mystery-hunting cat and a grumpy trash scavenger elf. Do you think there is a possibility to play a setting fitting any of these? :3

Also I personally would prefer an original setting (except for the Jedi characters), but I'm happy to compromise if other preferences so dictate!

All of those sound way fun! I'll take a few more responses. Hopefully we can start to narrow down the options.

I'd like to give this a go.

Looks interesting, I'd be down to try. Something modern or scifi would be my jam, though I'm also curious how this would fit into a superhero/marvel rpg type game. Would the optional talents and skills be in play?

I wasn't thinking we would do skills and talents. I'll look those over in the rules. I kind of like the simplicity of the vanilla game.

No worries, just wondering

I'm interested in trying a less crunchy system! An original setting with a Cowboy Bebop-like universe or animal universe sounds like it would be fun.

Looks like we have some takers. (Yay!) I'm going to leave this thread open for another 24 hours. After that, we can decide on a setting, and get started with character generation.

Let's keep brainstorming our ideas for the setting. So far, it looks like people are leaning toward an original sci-fi kind of thing.

I have next to no knowledge of Cowboy Bebop, but the internet told me that it's a space western, which does sound fun and makes me think. Maybe we can do something about space trains? A group of mercenaries or merchants travelling on a space train and seeing all sorts of weird aliens and planets. We can even make it episodic and test different aspects of the system in each: a dangerous planet for an exploration challenge, a confrontation with pirates for combat, a heavily populated space port for social interactions, etc.

(Admittedly, it's not very scientific for a sci-fi. But I want a space choo-choo. :3)

What mood are we going for? Just good fun adventures, or something more gritty? The first is probably better for a test of a system. Just silly shenanigans and light-hearted fun.

Could be like infinity train in space. Each car can be massive. Some could be different biomes, a whole train car could be a marketplace etc.
Interested in reasons why there is a train in space. Other than rule of cool. Are there tracks? Tunnels? Rickety space trellises?

Reminds me of the movie Snowpiercer. Which would be interesting in its own right, with a twist in space. Perhaps a line of connected spaceships, as we try to traverse to the front and overthrow the regime.

I was thinking more along the lines of Sunless Skies locomotives; more a spaceship with a train aesthetic than anything else. XD Although tracks in space is an interesting thought to consider. Maybe it doesn't necessarily need to be in space, underwater trains would be fun too. I just like vehicles in settings they don't belong!
[ +- ] Space Choo-Choo from the game
I don't necessarily mind moving through giant carts, whether magical or apocalyptic, but I would prefer if we avoid political and political-adjacent topics. These are really not my types of games (and I don't think this system is gonna work well for stealth, which usually comes up). D: I'd go for a post-apocalyptic setting, though! Bandit-fighting and all.

...so if we add *all* of that, this a railway in space with a massive magical train with each cart being a pocket dimension, and we are traversing towards the front. It does seem delightfully chaotic.

Sci-fi train adventure sounds like it'll be fun! Sounds like it will be up to the DM what kind of setting they would like to go with. As for tone, I agree about preferring more fun, light-hearted adventures, but we'll see how everyone feels.

Reminds me quite a bit of The Book of Boba Fett. Boba and some Tuskens had to jump aboard a hover train and commandeer the vessel in order to stop some spice runners.

Actually, everyone being aboard a space train is a good way to start the adventure. I'll have to give that some thought.

Here's something I cooked up this morning. I've been think a lot about this homebrew sci-fi setting.
It is the year 2121. The events of this story take place 48 years after The Kessie Incident, when scientists on a space station created a wormhole by accident and destroyed everything in a five mile radius, including themselves. Civilization has yet to recreate what happened to Dr. Kessie and her associates.

However, the wormhole proved to be a valid method of transportation, ushering in a new chapter of human history. Earth's people emerged in a remote corner of the universe, and finally made contact with aliens. The so-called humans were considered to be rustic and backward, but they managed to gain some powerful allies, and eventually, they joined the Community of Sentient Races, or CSR.

The CSR is rife with political intrigue and criminal activity, but it has remained mostly stable for centuries. In spite of this, explorers and settlers from the CSR are constantly finding new fortunes, and perishing from newly discovered threats. Such perils await any spacefarer who wants to make a living in the far-flung sectors of the Milky Way.

This works for me! :3

I'll probably go with either my cyborg or my android character then, depending on what characters other players pick (the cyborg is physical, the android is knowledge-focused, so I can fill party niches). Can we set up a game forum to discuss this further - or rather, can we apply to it, since I believe you already set it up? :D

If you've got space for an extra player I wouldn't mind throwing my hat into the ring!

Many thanks to everyone who expressed interest! I have sent an invite to Tickettbror and closed the game for applications. Can't wait to get started!
