I should have thought to look for a representative from the Magician's Guild in Threshold! Anton would definitely want to do that :)

Threshold reads well with me. Will won’t have much to offer, but can give moral support.

It seems to me that we have two adventure paths to choose from, the first being we could continue on to the goblin castle, and the second is we could play this like a murder mystery. I think it's a good idea to get a little more information before we finalize our decision. Let's talk to the Scruffers and see what they have to say about the castle. And we can hang out in town long enough for Anton to meet with the Magician's Guild. Question, how big is Threshold? Is there a representative of the Thieves Guild in town? This may be an issue if we want to play the murder mystery route. I suspect the girl's murder is a red herring trying to draw the town's attention away from something. And when we eventually make it out to the castle, I think it's a good idea to scout the surrounding area before going into the dungeon.

Reads well to me, but I encourage we take anything the Scruffers say with a grain of salt.

I'm in for talking to the Scruffers and having Anton check in with the Magician's Guild.

I opened both threads for your investigation. Feel free to post in both of them. Anton might not be the only one who wants to visit the Magician’s Guild.

As for the questions asked: Threshold is a big settlement (by Karameikos standards) of 2000. Finding a representative from the thieves guild (if one exist) will require some legwork.

I'm content to table the Thieves Guild idea. Nightshade has been using his woodsman archer persona and has not openly revealed himself as a thief/rogue to any of the townsfolk, so I'm happy to keep it that way.

Am I correct that there is a church of The Faith in town? Is it a large organization or just a priest and a room? Something in between?
Jan 10, 2025 5:55 am
The Faith is not an organized religion. Balan is one of the priests of the Faith in the city, and he goes where he is needed. There are a handful of other priests as well. No single structure of worship exists, but there are multiple small shrines scattered all over the city, as many as one at every street, and most people have one at the privacy of their homes. If you want to contact one of the priests of the Faith, just let me know. You are one as well, so you should know how to easily get in touch with them.

mostly I was wondering if there was a central place for prayer and offerings. sounds like the answer is no central place, but small shrines. Got it.

Hey guys, is there anything else we want to do in town? Are you, or is everyone ready to start heading toward the castle?

LOL Inconceivable!
I’m ok to move ahead. :)

I'm sort of curious to know how the Sheriff and town are approaching the issue of the murdered girl. That leads me to a broader question about the size of the town and how often murder happens. Is this a situation where murders are rare and this this is a big deal? Or do people get murdered in alleys often enough that this is just news of mild interest to most townsfolk?
Jan 11, 2025 8:10 pm
Threshold is a town of 2000. This is the first murder that occurred in many years.
The Sheriff and the guards have never investigated such a crime. They will start by questioning the farmers outside of Threshold (those are the people most likely to travel the roads near where the girl was discovered), but those are alot of people, and will take a while.

I like the idea of checking in with the sheriff and seeing if he has anything to say about the murder investigation or is planning any response to the goblin problem. It sounds like the sheriff is in over his head, and if we want to do a proper investigation, we will have to do it ourselves. What do you guys think of leaving to check out the castle at dawn tomorrow? Since it's midday, we'll still have time to check in with the sheriff today.

Just a side note; you guys are the heroes of this story. The NPCs (usually) will not be able to resolve the problems without your help. So the murder investigation will never be concluded without your assistance, no other adventuring party will ever clear Mistamere castle, etc, etc.

The funny thing is that it turns out that law enforcement and the administration of justice is an expensive, time-consuming, and thankless enterprise. So if we as characters want loot and XP, the castle is our best path forward.

+1 on the castle.
The scene with the Scruffers went better than I expected.
Jan 13, 2025 5:19 am
OK. So unless anyone has a different preference, I will kick off the castle scene

I kicked off the new thread.
You are left with quite a bit of open-ended quests from the previous threads, and you might want to come back to them at some point.
For now, you each get 25 xp, and 20 gold in total.
Also, let me know if you went up to Mistamere on your own, or if you decided to party up with the Scruffers, or with Hunter/Natasha, who also expressed interest in exploring the ruins. It would definitely be easier with more adventurers, but the spoils will also be needed to be split.
