QUICK PITCH:
Let's play the PbtA game, Starscape. A rag-tag crew learns to trust, or not trust, each other while going on adventures.

NUTS AND BOLTS
GAME SYSTEM: Starscape rpg quickstart rules (a Powered-by-the-Apocalypse game) with some additions from the beta test rules. Quickstart rules are available free on Starscape's Kickstarter page
NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 5
POST FREQUENCY: 5-7 posts/week

DETAILED PITCH
THE RULES: Starscape is a game about the relationships among a crew of spacefarers. The game leans into the theme of found family and the waxing and waning of trust among the crew. The rules also leave plenty of room for fun sci-fi adventure.

THE GAME: For this game, I want to go full improv. We'll colaboratively build the foundation of the game during a "session zero" exercise, then I'll springboard off of that. I'll set up some situations, you'll decide what your characters do, and then we'll see where the story goes. I plan to use some solo-gameplay tools (Mythic GME, Starforged's oracles, etc) as prompts for myself. We'll embrace the PbtA mantra: "play to find out what happens."

THE CHARACTERS: Starscape uses PbtA-style playbooks: The Hot Shot, The Warrior, The Civilian, The Rebel, The Explorer, The Gifted, The Greenhorn, The Outsider, The Unfamiliar, and The Normal. Everybody gets one.

As a side note, the ship's captain will not be a PC. Starscape has rules for NPC captains that still allow for some player control. There's also the option of having no captain. We'll decide that in session zero too.

HOW TO APPLY
Post interest in this thread. Selection is NOT first-come, first-served. I'll keep the add open until Dec 27, and then I'll pick the players. In your post, name a book, movie, or show about a crew of spacefarers that you like and say something you like about it.

I've been wanting to play this game for a while! Definitely interested.

As for a piece of media... I'm tempted to just go with Star Trek, but I'll go with something less popular. It's been a couple of years, but I remember liking the Green Lantern Animated Series when it came out. This scene in particular is one I sometimes think about.

The Gifted
Dark Matter
The crew were cool badasses with an awesome ship

Interested!

As for a piece of media... I'll go with The Expanse. The books are great and, if you get past the first episodes, even the series. There is a grounded realism there, a hard sci-fi that just hooked me to the possibility of all that happening someday.

Also pinging @Tickettbror @LightOfMidnight @CESN @PhoenixScientist and @ThatTaoGuy that expressed interest in a Starscape game before. =)

Cheers fort he ping. I am definitely interested, just aware I am close to game limit and also showed interest in another game. Still I'll throw my hat in.

I did have the concept of an Outsider info broker just pays rents to stay on the ship, and is definitely not up to mischief.

For media, I may be boring and go Star Trek, especially Voyager. I grew up on it, and still enjoy it now. I enjoy the focuses on characters and their interactions, along with the different dilemma's they show and approach on the show.

For full disclosure, I haven't run Starscape before. I've run other PbtA games, and I was in a very short-lived Starscape game here as a player (and I'm stealing the character sheet that @Beardhare made for us when they ran that game).

I'll volunteer my own piece of media. I'm a shameless Browncoat. I love the crew of Serenity from Firefly, individually and as a group. I followed Sean Maher to a couple of small conventions where I got in interact with him some. Really nice guy from what I could tell.

Thank you!
I was looking through pieces of media and was seriously disappointed by the lack of firefly :)

Any crew of spacefarers? really? 😈 Well then, time for something different:

* Alien. That sort of situation sure needs some trusting between the crew members
* 2001: A Space Odyssey or, less deadly, Lost Universe, because a spaceship with character always looks nice 👌

Thanks for the tag! I'm definitely still interested in trying this game.

I'm a huge fan of ragtag crew/found family sci-fi stories. Firefly is a definite favorite just for the characters and their interactions alone. Star Wars is a childhood favorite; I love the science fantasy aspect, the variety of aliens, and the epic good vs. evil story. Cowboy Bebop has a great little group of misfits and a great aesthetic. And one more because I can't NOT mention the comic series Saga - it may start out as an actual family but they add enough members for a great little found family as the story moves on. Obviously Star Trek, but now the Lower Decks crew is a new favorite, especially after that series finale.

My favorite thing about all of those is the interplay between the characters. The Han/Luke relationship in Star Wars IV is fun. It's the same for Mal and his crew in Firefly. The comments from Jayne, the goofiness of Wash, Kaylee's unbridled optimism, Zoe's grounded realism... they all have a viewpoint and even if they disagreed, they found a way to work together.

...and now I've rambled.
