Okay, so far I have John Oldman, a centuries old fledgling psionic. He started as a warrior and perfected his body and physique. But as the ravages of time took his strength and stamina from him, he worked to perfect his mind. Now he's confined to a wheelchair, but his mind is literally his greatest weapon.

His real name is Kael, but I dont' know if anyone knows that. He's had many aliases over the centuries.

Possible names: Brainstorm, Professor Mind... Mindforge? The ASCENDANT. Maybe just "Psion"?

Oh and his background of "centuries old" comes with "a secret society is hunting you" so there's that, too.

So the 'fledgling' bit is him brute-forcing things to learn the mental powers. He didn't train under some master or have innate abilities... he learned through discipline kind of thing. Yeah?

Why is the secret society hunting him, and what are they known as in certain circles? What are those circles that know of them?

The fledgling bit could be him finally leaning into his mental abilities as his body finally failed him. But I imagine he studied with someone. It could be a mystic order, but I think I like the idea of an ancient master. Here's a couple ideas.

Maybe the last member of a mystic order? Master Hiraku, the last sage from The Eternal Order of the Thousand Paths. Once a secluded group of monks who believed in the perfect harmony of body, mind, and spirit, Master Hiraku is the only one left. He has only trained a handful of disciples across centuries. He teaches an esoteric martial art that includes meditation, psychic development, and the channeling of life energy.

Or a supernatural mentor - The Shade, a mysterious figure (a ghost or an ancient entity?) who only appears to those on the brink of enlightenment. The Shade’s training focuses on mental resilience, teaching students to weaponize thoughts and emotions while emphasizing the ability to blend the seen and unseen, making the student adept at navigating both the material and psychic realms.

The secret society is The Brotherhood of the Unseen Blade. They're an ancient order of assassin-philosophers who believe reject physical violence, focusing instead on mental domination and the subtle art of controlling outcomes through thought. They believe that Kael's former master stole their secrets. They may have killed or destroyed his mentor and now they're hunting Kael to kill the last thief of their secrets.

We could also go the self-taught route - After centuries of winning, he finally lost everything in his last battle. He wandered the world for decades, seeking enlightenment. He meditated in solitude, endured harsh wildernesses, and studied lost texts in ancient ruins. Over centuries, he developed a unique philosophy and technique that no single master could have taught and has finally unlocked the powers of his mind.

The secret society could still be mad that he stole their secrets. Maybe some of the ancient texts he studied were theirs. But I think either mentor idea gives you more to play with and a fun NPC.

Maybe the society is linked to the government organization that studied Light's character or trained Bowl's?

I'm still toying with name ideas.

Real Name: Kael
Current Identity: John Oldman

Superhero Name Possibilities:
Professor Mind (more of a joke, I'm less serious about this one unless we all go with goofier 40s-60s hero names)
The Ascendant - this might be his name when he's solo before he meets the team and is full of ego
Brainstorm
Mindforge
Psion

If his mentor was The Shade, he might be named:
Umbra
Wraithmind
Psyshade

I like all three ideas regarding the source of his power, and it's definitely the kind of game where those details can emerge or get refined through play. I'll run with whatever option you choose.

Seems a stretch / a bridge too far, but I could be convinced.
What's in a Name?
These are modern times, so the Golden / Silver Age names won't be a great fit unless you're calling back to those eras -- say because you've been around that long! In a long-running supers campaign I have, some NPCs changed their names throughout the decades to stay current / relevant.

And now I see that you're going with Brainstorm. Sounds good!
Looks like you grabbed the damage values for your Psychic Energy Blast -- cool. You can also add a line for Unarmed, as unlikely as that seems.
[ +- ] Hand to Hand Damage

Added Unarmed.

Also, I think I'm going with Psion, as he thinks it makes him sound like an Scion of something important, but it's not a pretentious as The Ascendant.

Brainstorm was my placeholder, the first passable name I came up with.

I'm trying to come up with a costume idea, but I don't think he wears one. I can see him just wearing the suit and tie all the time. No secret identity for him. OR... he wears the suit and tie in the wheelchair, but maybe has a crappy costume he puts on when he goes superhero, and he just always flies when he's superheroing... always just using his Fly and Telekinesis to hover a couple inches off the ground. Unless that goes against the wheelchair limitation, in which case he's probably just in his wheelchair in a suit. I'm good either way.

Cool. Remember to change his name in the various places it needs changing, please. Dig Psion, fits your concept better.

Costume-wise, "None" is fine. And on the wheelchair front, I think using TK to fly is fine -- being in a wheelchair will still be limiting in various ways.

One thing I like about this game is that you're free to color in how your powers manifest. Are his abilities visible, appearing like ghostly ninjas carrying him, attacking when he uses blast, etc.? Or is it a glowing energy? Or -- well, you get the idea.

I think he's too egotistical to let it look like anyone helping him. He'd want people to know he's doing it himself. He overcame even old age to still be more powerful than most people in their prime. As psychic energy, I would imagine there is no physical manifestation - he just does things and acts like he's the most powerful. Stuff starts flying around, he zaps people's minds, an unseen attack. He likes the "strike from out of nowhere" vibe of it. He looks helpless and unthreatening. He is not, and he likes to surprise people.

Looking a-ok. Please make the following final tweaks...

🔹 Rename the sheet from Brainstorm to Psion.

🔹 Change Wealth of 0 to Disposable Income (0)

🔹 Fill in Voice, Stature, Hair, Eyes, Smile.

Otherwise looks good to go!

Final review... looking good. Love those super-beefy descriptions. I *hope* you had AI assist with those. 😂

In case you need the power descriptions handy...

Telekinesis (Power 4)
You can move physical objects with your mind through intense concentration. This is a rare example of a situation where rolling under usually determines how well you perform the task this time, rather than how difficult the task is.

Telepathy (Power 3)
You can manipulate the minds of others by extracting memories, reading surface thoughts, or implanting new ideas. If using this power to make someone believe they want to help you, they get another chance to roll versus and shake off the effect any time they notice something is wrong. This additional roll versus does not cost additional stamina.

Energy Blast (Power 3)
An energy attack. Most PCs with this power must choose a type of energy at character creation. Entropic: Double damage against machines. Organic targets age rapidly.

Energy Shield (Power 1 per round)
You can produce a flat or dome-shaped surface of energy within visual range that blocks incoming attacks. Roll versus the attack to avoid damage completely. When creating an energy shield large enough to protect several individuals at once, roll twice and take the worse result. Hand-to-hand attackers suffer the additional effects of the shield’s energy type.

Fly (Power)
You can fly or hover at will. You don’t usually need to roll for this, only when rolling versus or under stress.

Etiquettes
This skill allows you to interact in certain social environments as if you belong there. You can persuade NPCs to help you, ignore you, or believe you. Types of social environments include: High Society, Academia, Military, Emergency Services, and Street Culture.
