Okay, lets get to work

Alright folks! Here's the documents again:

RULEBOOK/HANDBOOK: Your text to link here...

CHARACTER SHEET: Your text to link here...

File > Make a Copy to get an editable sheet

In terms of getting yourselves set up, here's a good workflow:

1. Basic info (top right of sheet)- Name, etc etc
2. Character (far right)- Background, Personality
3. Special Trait- We won't have specifc classes but consider this a way to build out your character a bit further, have some fun with this. You could give yourself some kind of unique passive trait/ability, or an active ability (usable once/day, in a pinch, etc). I'll reserve the right to veto or suggest changes if your idea is too overpowered.
4. Stats- You'll be starting with 7 points to spec however you'd like. Go all in on sniper rifles, make a marathon sprinter, or balance out.

Proficiencies: At a certain number of points spec'd into a stat, you earn a unique bonus called a proficiency. These must be equipped (bottom left of your sheet), and you start with 2 slots at level one. The number in each Proficiency denotes the number of points required.

Reminder for the backstory: You were hiking in the Eastern European nation of Chernarus when an infection hit. Chernarus is fictional, but in-universe is on a peninsula jutting into the Black Sea, sharing borders with Russia and the Ukraine.

By all means, fire away with questions. If you need inspiration for characters or traits, let me know!

Will you be sad if I don't use the character sheet linked?
Jan 1, 2025 3:45 am
That depends on what you have in mind. I'm more than open to alternatives

With thoughts on picking skill, what kind of cash items are we going to be able to start with? What I can have would have an effect on what skills I would like to have.

As far as character sheet, I was thinking a plain jane custom sheet. And deal with everything that comes that way.

Trade with NPCs is mainly barter based, but there will be some currency involved. Every hub/settlement will have their own stock. Think, pistols & knives in the first then progressing to bigger and better equipment as you move along.

Starting equipment will just be the clothes on your back, didn't realize this wasn't copied into here but this is the story intro:
Your hiking trip through the rural, Black Sea nation of Chernarus has taken a wild turn. A few days ago, all you heard was one brief explosion. Yesterday, the country collapsed under the weight of the virus.
The "infected" seem more dead than alive, but the way they move, the way they groan, they can't be dead. Not yet, at least. From the edge of whatever town this is, you observe them. Every waving tree branch, every rustling leaf- they notice it. They can't be dead.

In short, camp is overrun in the night, local guide dies, you run from your tents with nothing but some rags. (The intro will have plentiful but random loot to get you on your feet)

And for the character sheet thats totally fine. I automated whatever could be automated in the spreadsheet, but if you have your own idea in mind I'm not against it- whatever works best for you

Woot. Shirt, jeans, jacket, belt, shoes, & underwear. Don't take skill with bazooka or high speed cars. Treasure my pack of gum in my pocket. Would that be accurate. Skill wise think about what I could find and use.

I did look up "Black Sea nation of Chernarus" to at least get an idea of climate and such. Russia?

Well I have a character started. His name is Antoly. Not good enough with an editor to remove the others in the picture. Character is applied to game so you can view it.

I still need to figure out how to adjust the rules book... the tables have a column to the left I can't see.
Jan 1, 2025 4:26 am
What are you considering to bring in MaJunior?
Jan 1, 2025 4:39 am
Not sure yet. I haven't read as much as I would have liked, because I've been distractes trying to figure out how to fix the document so I can read those tables.
Jan 1, 2025 4:56 am
Yeah, you're on the right track Wander. You won't have much gear to start out with

DayZ Wiki's page on Chernarus
This may help. Fictional nation in the caucuses, mostly rural towns and villages with a fairly sizable military presence. Temperate climate, terrain is pretty rugged
OOC:
(there's some damn good sniping in-game)
.

Let me see if I can make the tables look any better. I'm not having issues on my end. Are you on PC or Mobile, MaJunior?
Jan 1, 2025 5:10 am
If you're on mobile, it'll look weird. Worst case, if you're on PC and having the issue, I can move everything into an excessively large spreadsheet

Edit: Happy New Year from the east coast

Antoly is background as a smuggler/rebel and I guess that isn't too far to use.

I will learn how to highlight the custom sheet to make it look cool. Just takes a bit of looking around and learning.

I use a windows 11 desktop for access and Microsoft edge for a browser. I have central time.

Winks. Antoly has a precious pack of cigarettes with that pack of gum. LOL. Has a rockstar shirt on.

Rebel would absolutely work within the lore of Chernarus. I could see some cool specialty ideas coming from the smuggler background too.

I'm saving the material you have offered up so I can look at it without all the ads and such. Can't say the copies were great. They are not.
Jan 1, 2025 5:49 am
A txt file for the first one is too large to even try to copy here. but this one is possible. I tried to copy these to Notebook and it isn't kind to it.
[ +- ] Txt copy of Chernarus
Rule one to survival. You don't have to be fast. Just faster than the guy next to you.

Mobile.
I haven't owned a PC in like... 15 years. Realized everything I'd use one for, I can do on my phone. 🤷‍♂️

You don't have to shoot first, but you better shoot last.
