Bekassine let's out a soft chuckle at Ramank's toast. Then tries to remember what the societal expectations are at a gathering like this as she enjoys the appetizers.

Thoroughly out of breath and excited to have won the competition, Aurelia laps up the attention and congratulations as she ascends the stairs to the balcony. Her efforts to be an accepted and sought-after member of society were bearing fruit, at least artistically. Now, it was time to impress socially.

She knew about wine and decided that would be her target in which she would endeavor to display her wine-tasting etiquette. Aurelia lifts her glass, swirling the dark wine with practiced grace.

She inhales, then sips. "A bold choice. This wine speaks of power, subtle, enduring, and unmistakably Chelish."

Horace sits with his companions as the feast begins and marvels at the food as it is brought out, dish by dish. "This is quite an amazing feast," he says with a smile, "Look here at this dish, how elegantly it is prepared! It takes great skill to fold the dough exactly right. And this soup, it is regional to Taldor, if I'm not mistaken. Many of the ingredients would be difficult to source in this city. Remarkable."

As the final courses are served, he stands and taps his wine glass with a fork. "I want to say thank you, to everyone here, for showing us - mere newcomers and visitors to this fine city - the incredibly artistic talent you have to offer. And particularly, to Zachrin, for hosting this wonderful event and allowing our creativity to come together. To Zachrin, and to Kintargo!"
OOC:
Going for Proper Etiquette and then a Toast. Idk if it is still Deception for an 'honest' toast?

Zachrin smiles politely at both Ramank's and Horace's toasts, though he doesn't seem particularly impressed by either one. Horace's and Aurelia's focus on etiquette prove to be more of a success, the other guests nodding and smiling at their decorum.
OOC:
You have gained 3 Fete Points. @Furmyr,@crazybirdman, you each may still attempt a second Fete Activity for this hour.

Ramank will sit down next to Motman, he knows he didn't leave the best impression, so will try to rectify. "Sorry if my previous praise was perceived phony and insincere," he begins. "I'd really like to know the thought behind the painting."
OOC:
By the rules it should be a skill roll using the same skill, with DC 15. Though the GM can allow different skills and different DCs depending on circumstances (for example in a good cop/bad cop routine).

"Oh, yes, of course, of course!" Motman mumbles, nearly knocking over his goblet of wine as he explains his artwork. "It's a bit of social commentary, isn't it? Commonfolk building homes out of castoffs from higher society, and all that." The gnome talks at length, and both Ramank and Bekassine do remarkable jobs of feigning interest for the duration of the conversation, leaving quite the (false) impression on the artist.
OOC:
You have gained 2 Fete Points!

After the feast, the party relocates down into the main auditorium hall while Zachrin and his acolytes and servants prepare for the auction. During the first half hour, the guests are given a chance to relax and further socialize.
OOC:
PCs can take any of the basic Fete Activities at this time (save for Spend Time with Zachrin Vhast) or can also attempt once more to Brag About Artwork (but at a –2 circumstance penalty, as the artwork is no longer on display). The auction occupies the second half hour, during which no Fete Activities at all take place.

BRAG ABOUT ARTWORK: The PC spends a half hour bragging about a piece of art they or another PC entered in the show. The PC can attempt a DC 25 Art Lore or a DC 30 Society check to earn Fete Points. If the PC is bragging about their own artwork, they gain a +2 circumstance bonus to this check.

Aurelia, buoyed by her successful showcasing of her wine knowledge, begins to mingle, laughing and nodding when appropriate. She looks for anyone who looks worth cultivating as she makes her way across the room.

"Anytime. Just wish I could be more helpful here. This high society stuff isn't too familiar" She replies.
Apr 9, 2025 10:26 am
Not capable of speaking of art, and having no more persons he's trying to impress, Ramank for the first time is free to just walk around and enjoy the art.
Apr 9, 2025 10:35 am
Horace is able to talk up his art enough to pique the other guests' interests further.
OOC:
You have gained 1 Fete Point.

At last, the time has come for the art auction. The guests all sit as Zachrin prepares to accept bids on the pieces on display.
OOC:
Each auction opens with a bid of 100 gp. Artists aren’t allowed to bid on their own work. Each PC who wants to bid on a piece of art can do so by taking the Bid on Art activity. After each auction closes, the winning character can pick up the artwork starting the next day at Songbird Hall.
[ +- ] Bid on Art
OOC:
The opening bid for each PC artwork is always 100 gp. In order to determine how much their artwork sells for, the PC who created the artwork must attempt a DC 28 Crafting check. Other PCs can help to drive up the bid by taking the Aid action and attempting a DC 20 Mercantile Lore or Society check.

Critical Success: The artwork sells for 600 gp and makes an amazing profit.
Success: The artwork sells for 300 gp and makes a profit.
Failure: The artwork sells for 100 gp and doesn’t make a profit.
Critical Failure: The artwork fails to sell at all; it’s returned to the PC after being appraised at a value of 50 gp.

Bekassine doesn't know why, but she is enamored with Delmonia’s fighting peacocks. She doesn't know where she would put it, or what she would do with it, she only knows that she has to have it. She looks to her familiar for confirmation before bidding, and Fox gives an enthusiastic nod. "It's a fair bit of coin, but you're right, we do deserve it."

Horace looks over the pieces on display and his eyes fasten upon Obsession, the painting by Almidia Decarruf. He didn't think he would want to buy anything, really, but feels he must at least try.

When his own piece goes up, his heart catches in his throat, wondering if anyone would take any actual interest in it.

Ramank leans back and enjoys the show. Having little to contribute to get the bidding up, he's afraid he'll do more harm than help or end up owning an impractical work of art.
Apr 10, 2025 8:58 pm
Aurelia also is entranced by the peacocks but doesn't want to bid against one of her group so she settles. Abigail's work is a fraud in her opinion so that won't do. She raises a finger to let the auctioneer know her interest in Motman Primm’s oil painting. She isn't a huge fan, but she appreciates the subject matter.

Rolls

DC 28 Crafting for her own work - (1d20+18)

Horace's artwork sells for 300 gp, while Aurelia's goes for 100 gp. Bekassine fails to win the auction for Delmonia's sculpture, which ends up selling for 900 gp. Aurelia bids on Motman Primm's painting, getting in the highest bid at 200 gp.
OOC:
Aurelia may choose to win the auction for Motman's painting.
The fete drifts to an end after the auction, and the revelers slowly leave the opera house over the course of the next half hour. Most of those at the party noticed your group, and at the end of the evening, several partygoers take the time to personally bid some of you good evening.
OOC:
You earned a total of 23 Fete Points and made a good impression! This grants you 2 Production Points.

Following the fete, Fallenta suggests setting up an appointment to meet with Zachrin Vest as soon as possible. Now that he can put faces to your names, it should be easier to accomplish.

Indeed, Zachrin is eager to talk to you, and shortly after picking up the art you won at the auction, the acolytes at Songbird Hall escort you to Zachrin's office. Zachrin’s office is elegantly appointed, decorated with paintings, tapestries, small sculptures, and more—exquisite art created by many of the temple’s previous high priests.

"Ah, welcome, friends," Zachrin says with a smile. He invites you to join him around a low table on which has been set out plates of cheeses and fruits to snack on while you talk. "I understand you have a business proposal for me?" he asks curiously.
OOC:
This influence encounter plays out over the course of an hour, with 3 20-minute rounds. Everybody may make checks for the first round now.

Discovery Skills: Kintargo Lore, Perception, Society
Influence Skills: Art or Theater Lore (to share opinions and inspirations on entertainment), Deception, Diplomacy, Intimidation, Performance (to establish your skills or even give a short demonstration), Religion (to speak on matters of faith or to talk about Shelyn)

You learned previously learned Zachrin's weakness and resistance.

Weakness: Weakness: Even though Fallenta told you not to mention her name, should you choose to admit that you're working with her when the time comes to influence Zachrin, you will have a much easier time, as he believes she is an excellent director.
Resistance: Zachrin loathes greed, and anyone who brags about finances or financial interests within his earshot increases all DCs for that character to Influence him by 2.
