Well... In this game, your characters are the protagonists, which means they automatically
succeed at what they attempt, unless there’s meaningful opposition.
Opposition can come from another PC actively resisting (by rolling against you). If they succeed, we describe how awesome they are, not how your PC failed.
Or opposition can come from a risky situation where failure would lead to an interesting result (which is when I would roll). If I succeed, I would describe how interesting, complex and complicated things got, not how your PC botched it.
If there’s no opposition, you don’t need to roll—the action just happens. Since you rolled, I assume you expected some challenge, but if you’re now giving up before seeing any opposition, that makes the roll unnecessary and you should have... Told us what happened, not a "never mind" =)
