Preface: CherokeeWind passed away peacefully with family and friends as a result of her struggles with cancer.

Wow. All I can say is wow. Never would I have thought I would have developed such a deep connection with someone who played online RPGs with me. She was a genuine, compassionate and caring person. Even as she struggled with her health she would try to help me in my petty struggles. She played games as if they were stories and drew you in to the worlds you created together. She thought way outside of any box I’d ever imagine and turn a game in a way no one could expect. It pains me to know that our stories will never be finished. I’ll always wonder what would have happened next, what she would have done to color the world and changed the trajectory of a game.

Reflecting, I think this scene of one of our character interactions is also completely true of CherokeeWind.
Bells, I have something for you…

Zin pulls a carefully wrapped package from inside his cloak and hands it to Bells. Inside the simple cloth wrapping is vibrant pink fairy glove.

It is a fairy glove. They grow in the mountains near my home… It reminded me of you, do you see? The flowers are all shaped like tiny bells. Each bell is so colorful and beautiful on the outside. Inside… Zin reaches across and gently lifts a petal of the flower … inside, is a different kind of beauty with its spots and imperfections. But the best part of this flower, the part that reminds me the most of you… is in its nature. Zin carefully lifts the flower spike and holds it upright You see the flowers of the fairy glove are not like most flowers. Most flowers open upward, asking… Zin gestures with his free hand showing an open flower facing the sky …begging for birds or bees to come and drink from them. The fairy glove points it’s flowers down… It means that any bird or bee that seeks its nectar is forced to change its perspective, to come from below. I imagine that is a shock to birds that are always looking down on the world to suddenly look up and see the half of the world they were missing. That is why the fairy glove reminds me of you. Through your kindness and the joy, care and concern you try to bring to all those you meet, you force those around you to a new perspective… one that has showed ME a world I was missing… one that is so much more vibrant and colorful than I ever could have imagined. And I wanted to thank you… Bells the Bard… at those words Zinvaris stands and gives a dramatic bow. When he comes out of the bow a peaceful smile rests on his scarred face. He gently reaches over and places the fairy glove back on the wrapping.
Thank you for giving me new perspectives and creating games that extended beyond a game. They wrote treasured memories on my heart. I will miss CherokeeWind. A true friend.

That's terrible news. Condolences to all who knew her. RIP CherokeeWind.

I'm truly sorry to hear that! She was a delight in every game I shared with her, truly a font of creativity that pushed the RP to new levels. I was in that same game with her as Edmund, though our IC interactions were quite different.

She was good people. I was lucky enough to play with her more the once.
Her writing style sat the bar high and inspired to follow.

This is the second time a beloved player have been lost to me. It sucks, but it's a part of life.
I'm telling myself that she found joy and an escape from the sickness in our games.

Sad news, indeed. Please extend my condolences to those that knew her well. I am thankful to have known her, even if it was just through casual interaction on the forum, and I take solace that she made such a positive impact on our community.

CherokeeWind was the player who led me to GamersPlane from another site. I don't think we shared any games together but she was always gracious to chat with and will be missed.

I played many games with CW. She was my friend. CW was a joy to be around, with never a barbed word. Her writing sparkled and danced with wit and creativity because she did too.

She loved her characters and invested them with parts of her soul, because of this I had to promise never to kill off any of her PCs. In Rime, the other players joked they could CW's character as a shield. But the concession to always spare CW's characters was easy to grant, as it meant we could continue to enjoy her company at the table.

There aren't many people as playful, clever and kind as CW, and I shall miss her terribly.

I really enjoyed the couple of games I played with her. She was always fun and loved to joke around. This is so sad.

This is the saddest news. I only had the privilege of playing one short game with CW, but I miss her anyway. She was kind and funny and creative and genuine. Her writing made me laugh, and it was a pleasure to interact with her in and out of character. She wrote the most perfect three-line post I have ever seen, and I will always remember how kindly she welcomed me to the game we played.

My heartfelt condolences to her family and all her friends.

Very sad news. It seems like she had a profound impact on a lot of people here. I played with her for a very short time but it was very enjoyable. I have a very special message sitting in my GP inbox from her that meant a lot and it even more now that I know she was expressing such kindness while fighting such a personal battle.

@Edmund_Balworth I trust that you will let her family know that she has left a noticeable mark here on GP?

We haven't crossed paths a lot, but I recall seeing CherokeeWind around the community threads, and she always seemed like a nice person with a lot of creativity. My condolences to her friends and family. And she will certainly be remembered here!

I had the pleasure of playing with CW in two games. She had a knack for writing posts filled to the brim with personality. Out of game, she was a joy to carry out long conversations with. A hilarious and deeply caring person. You will be missed.

Very sad news indeed -- she'll be missed here terribly. Condolences to her family and friends.

Edmund, thank you so much for sharing -- both the tragic news and a little piece of CherokeeWind herself. Let's hope her spirit is now soaring.

This is sad news. I had the pleasure of playing in a Deadlands game with her. She was a wonderful player with such a rich character in that game.

To those who knew her, I’m sorry for your loss. Edmund, thank you for sharing that beautiful memory. It’s nice to see (and be part of) an online community that acknowledges the person behind the username, avatar, PC and GM personas—and their very real struggles.

From what I’m reading, CherokeeWind sounds like a wonderful person who touched a lot of people here on GP. RIP and prayers, CherokeeWind.

I'm so sorry for your loss and for the loss to this community. I didn’t have the privilege of knowing CherokeeWind, but it’s clear from your words and the memories shared by others that she was a truly remarkable person. While the stories you shared may remain unfinished, the memories and inspiration she gave you will always be a part of your journey. I hope those cherished moments bring you, and everyone who knew her, comfort in this difficult time.

That's terrible news! I am glad she passed peacefully with loved ones by her side, though. I hope she truly understood the impression she had on many-- and I say that just looking around this website. I have to imagine the number is so much larger in the real world.

I am thankful to have known her, even as I extend condolences to those near her for their loss.
