Flash runs out of the temple No more threats. And you know, this remind me of what I saw in the flyer. I guess organizers will know what to do Flash dash back toward the tents to inform Treeflower (and Pyrax if possible) about their progress and to described the orbs.

Who knows, maybe those orbs are supposed to be here for the festival...
Mar 5, 2025 3:43 pm
Jeckle looks at the orbs, then at the constellation in the sky.

You know, he says to his comrades, These orbs match the colors of the stars in the sky.

Jeckle reminds everyone what Treeflower had said earlier:
Quote:
There's the big, yellow one in the middle, Yorith, and it moves from west to east across the sky. Then there's Nagar, the black star, just above it to the north. Below Yorith, to the south, is Sagin, a fierce red one. To the west is Wiyfa, a shimmering white star, and to the east, there's Bolubos, the pulsing blue one.
Since we've brought this creature to peace, fulfilling our request, perhaps we should return to Treeflower and see what he makes of this? Jeckle raises an eyebrow as he watches the orbs. I've heard the Fey are a mischievous folk, so Feyfest must be an invitation for mischief.
OOC:
I'd also like to make an Insight or Perception roll on the orbs, whichever makes the most sense. (They're the same roll for me, regardless.)

Rolls

Insight/Perception on Orbs - (1d20+5)

Jeckle is definitely on to something, but the owlbear is definitely not at peace. You can see jacket angry movements inside the golden orb as the Owlbear is tending to its injuries.
Quercus and Anders noticed that when he had the red orb in a southern position, the southern area of the golden orb was slightly more transparent.
Flash is still on the last remenants of the haist spell and rushes off to fetch Treeflower
Arden is keeping an eye on everything with a loaded crossbow
OOC:
What do you do?
The Orbs
Mar 5, 2025 5:56 pm
To Quercus, Arten apologizes Sorry m'lad. dunnae what came over me. I've regained my mind, rest assured

Hearing Jeckle's description, Arten fishes out the poster that Treeflower had:

https://i.imgur.com/ELOFWth.png

This 'ere poster has the orbs laid out exact like Ol' Jeckle just said - Should we try orienting them like that?

Arten will start to orient the orbs like Jeckle and the poster describe

Suneater owlbear

Arten orients the orbs as the poster describes. With a ripping sound, the tang of ozone fills the air. The owlbear rears back on its hind legs, its face top-lit in terrifying shadows cast by the 5-foot-radius star that floats above its head. Its featherfronds erupt in a retina-searing burst of light that settles into twinkling crackles of radiant energy.
OOC:

There is a small star floating above it breathing the area in sunlight - allowing its regeneration
You solved it puzzle fairly quickly, so instead of starting the third wave at 100% hp, it starts at 50% hp. As there is not much more to be discovered about this beast I'm going to play it more open, just to keep it a bit more interesting.
Quote:
Legendary action:Blinding Flash (Costs 2 Actions). The owlbear’s featherfronds release a blinding burst of light. Each creature within 30 feet of the owlbear that can see the owlbear must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of the creature’s next turn.

Ack, God's damned blinding bear!

Arten will whistle to Flash and let them know the beast is back. He will dodge back to his old sniper post, unsling his crossbow, and fire a sneak attack, trying to trip the beast to set up his comrades to quickly finish it off

Flash is surprised about Jeckle's keen mind and remembering word in word what Treeflower said earlier. Surprised to see owlbear back so soon. Either she run out of arcane energy or just out of surprise, wave of lethargy sweeps over it.s a wave of lethargy sweeps over her, just as it does over Quercus
OOC:
As per spell "When the spell ends, the target can’t move or take actions until after its next turn, as a wave of lethargy sweeps over it" no actions don't move

Wave 2, the puzzle, combat buff expires (hast, bless, rage, etc)
Wave 3, the second round of combat, where @GreyWord / Flash is ready to move around. She was going to threeflower, but did get further than the bottom edge of the map

Giving Arten THE EYE for some loooong seconds, Quercus starts laughing and claps the stout fellow on the shoulder. Like an avalanche ramming into a rock. "Ah, already forgotten my friend. You little folk just can't see far enough from down there to take a straight shot. I get it." Grinning, the goliath turns around and is totally surprised by the blinding light and the reappearing Owlbear.

Bringing his hammer back up, he roars in challenge: "Still not enough, feathered ball of fur?! I'll show you your place in the order of things!"Slamming his heavy weapon down twice, Quercus tries to crash the beast to its knees.
OOC:
Bonus: Rage + 6THP from Vitality Surge as my Rage starts

Despite being blinded, Jeckle is elated at the showering of compliments from his friends. Trusting in the moon goddess Selûne had caused him to ask about the stars above, which led to the information from Threeflower and the information that aided his team. His heart fills with the coolness of faith as he says a prayer and moves his hands for the spell that cures his blindness.
OOC:
Jeckls casts Level 2 Lesser Restoration to remove the Blindness effect. This is a bonus action.
[ +- ] Lesser Restoration
We all are blind without the moon and the stars, Jeckle says to the Owlbear as he holds forward his mace. May you find sight, and peace, in this dark night. His smile turns towards a frown of someone performing an action they don't want to do, but know it must be done, and he swings his mace to attack the Owlbear.
OOC:
I don't know how helpful this is, but maybe if the enemy is sapped, that will at least give disadvantage to others. Also, please let me know, here or in the Out of Character thread, if someone needs healing, as I'm having trouble keeping track of that. (Thanks in advance!)

Anders rapier sinks into the Owlbear and you can see how it fights to get back up, but it just doesn't have the energy. It lays on the grass with labored breath, until even that is to hard, and then it stops breathing all together.
You are declared heroes of Springgarden. A feast is held by the Blossom Union in the party’s honour and you offer each of you one of the folloing magical item from within the shrine.

While the you are considered heroes of Springarden, Xyxl grants the party free access to the spring and shows them the garden’s teleportation circle.
This concludes this adventure

Laying a hand on the beasts flank, Quercus accompanies the last breath of the owlbear silently. It had been a proud, strong being and had fought well.

Looking up at his friends, he silently gets back to his feet and proclaims: "A job well done.

Good thinking there with the orbs, Jeckle."

Sheating his enormous weapon, the goliath is ready to party with the fae and all his friends. All of them had earned it.
OOC:
Thanks Runekyndig! It was nice story and a good place to start with the new rules. Learned some things here. Respect for your openess to use the 24 rules, because every fight post did cost me about 30 minutes to write. On your side it must have been much worse. ;)

Thanks to my fellow players, as well. We worked good together, the puzzle was solved and all of you kept my barbarian alive. Wonderful job!

Hope to see all of you soon in another game. =D
Mar 7, 2025 11:11 am
What a pity Treeflower were not here to see the performance with orbs! He seemed invested into this thing.
Indeed, Jeckle solved everything without asking gnomes help. You know, actually. Let's not tell him - he will only be disappointed about missing the scene.
OOC:
Thanks Runekyndig, thanks everyone. Looking forward for another game

I wanted to ask if your enjoyed yourself?

Was the investigation parts was satisfying?
The adventure suggested that you could experiment with the feather, try different kinds of damage on the father stuff like that

Was the fight balanced?

If I was the run this adventure again, anything I could improve from your perspective?
Mar 7, 2025 2:40 pm
It was fun, and different. I had a good time, and would love to do more of these!

Thank you for running it, and thanks to the other players for sharing in the experience.

As for feedback... the only thing I can think of is that you might let players struggle more to interpret the clues? Instead of linking directly to the post with the answer, perhaps tell players they remember something about these four colors and let them do the legwork. (Maybe ask for a roll? We don't have an actual memory skill, but a straight INT check should work.)

Let me stress, I don't think how you handled it with us was bad or took anything away from the game, I'm just curious how players do if you leave it up to thrm. (Depends on the players, probably.)

This was a good time, hope we can all do it again! (And Anders is taken a Bokken.)
Mar 7, 2025 5:06 pm
Jeckle bows before his teammates. Thank you for the kind words. I will relay them to the other Selûnites as my siblings at the temple thank the moon goddess for our well-being.
OOC:
I had fun. Thanks @runekyndig! This was a great introduction for me, and I learned a lot (especially about not forgetting the attack rolls, lol.

My only suggestion, which may just be my ignorance, is how can I keep track of player health outside of following the update posts with player damage? I suppose asking my teammates is the preferred method; I just didn't want to focus too much on the back-and-forth for PBP.

Regardless, really enjoyed it! I will decline the treasures, as I don't know if I can join another game at the moment.

Thanks, all!
