Fair. When one roll sets up another, (and succeeded) rolling the follow-up is usually fine. But it can help to first talk about what the options are.

The fact that you have your 'game-face' on does not change the dice roll, but does, heavily, influence what the outcomes mean, and, possibly, give you the narrative licence to even try this on a vampire (without needing other setup first).

Do you have a preference for which price it is?
Costly would probably mean you get hit (they were attacking);
limited would only give you a brief window to act; and
unstable might mean it does not go the way you hoped but ends it and does not cost you more (right now).
