Returning to the group, he updated everyone on the status of the oxen, not that anyone probably wanted or needed an update on the beasts. "They are fine. Seem to have enjoyed the rest. Looks like nothing bothered them."
He glanced a Gundren, the man seemed broken by what had happened. Raven hoped they would be able to help him. "Do we want to camp here for the night or push on up the trail a bit? We all could use a good rest - but I wonder if the goblins might make trouble."
Should the decision be made to camp for the night, Tatiana casts her Unseen Servant to prepare a low fire and set up her tent. She will secure her belongings and her person with a magical Alarm, then ward the area of the camp with the same. Once things have settled for a bit, Tatiana will inspect the two vials to try and determine their contents.
"I think it's a bad call, but fine. Here's what we do: I'll stand watch. Yes, all night. In the morning, I'll ride in the cart and... gather my thoughts... while we travel. Objections?"
I don't know if the wagon had provisions planned for camping or if the intension was to be at an inn. If there are provisions, Raven will heat up something for everyone. If not - everyone is on their own :)

Sildar and Ammos apologies about not taking a turn at watch. Sildar is exhausted and doesn’t think he can stay up at all. Ammos wants to stay with Gundren and watch over him in the night, in case the blind dwarf needs help or wakes up and doesn’t know where he is.
Everyone give me perception rolls for watch please. (tell me if you want to change spots in your Perception roll)

Decklan you hear the roar and the crack and only then connect the rush of wind to the possibility of a flying creature.
The roar is far enough away as not to wake anyone who is asleep. It comes from the east, the direction you will be traveling in the morning.
Before she closes the tent flap, she pauses. "And... thank you, Decklan," Tatiana says, and retires for the remainder of the evening.
With that, he moves over to wake Alex. Nudging the man in the side, Decklan growls, "Wake up. You've got watch."
No special plans before breaking camp.
If Decklan did not mention the noise from last night to everyone, Tatiana reports the incident. "I cannot definitively say that it was the rumored dragon., nor if that creature noticed our campfire. It is best we remain alert on our journey and include the sky in our watch."
Trakomak realizes he have underestimated Tatiana. But he believes in no rumors and will tag along the party toward the Phandalin if you don't have any objections. Safer together.
She then asks of Sildar, "Have you been to Phandalin? I imagine it must be a small town, so far from the main road. What might we expect?"
"They are well rested, so hopefully we will make good time today." keeping to business discussion rather than adding to the worried talk of dragons.
He gets up on the bench seat of the cart and settles in, crossing his arms over his chest. "I was up all night. I'm going to relax for a bit."

Everyone packs up and the group heads out. The oxen pulling swiftly along the trail begin to get a little antsy after only twenty minutes of travel.
Raven you notice that the ox ears are searching as their nostrils flare and huff, their eyes are fixed on the curve of the road a head.
He leans close to Rudy the lead oxen, laying a comforting hand on the large ox's muzzle, speaking to him quietly "What are you getting big guy? I'm not seeing anything, but you smell things better than me."

Rudy

He comforted both of them - *speak with animals "Slow up while we check up ahead"
Raven brings the team to a slow walk, letting Trakomak get out ahead of them. He calls out, "Rudy says he smells blood - and ice. We should be careful."
Trakomak you stride forcefully forward. As you approach the curve in the road you hear a few cries echo out from the way your coming.

Tatiana, you want see this! Magic! Trakomak moves forward to scare crows away to help others investigate the scene, while he is looking around for dangers or wolfs attracted by the smell.
Are the deer on the road or just near it? Raven will try to avoid walking the team through them (swing wide, go around).
Looking at the bloody smear on the ground, Tatiana checks if there are signs of a great impact that might determine the size of the aggressor. She looks for abnormal tracks and signs that a giant creature might have taken flight, as well as any other disturbance that might provide insights into what happened.

Raven the deer are on the left side of the road but on it. The oxen allow you to lead them to the far right with minimal encouragement, but are eager to put the scene out of sight, and smell.
Tatiana your investigative eyes are very sharp on the scene before you. You see tracks of a herd of six to eight deer exiting the woods to the right side of the road, making their way to the left. Something large with claws that sunk deep into the earth appeared on the road with no other tracks, suggesting that yes it was able to fly. The aggressors landing position is the point of origin for the swaths of ice. Great claw tacks show the deer were frozen, most eaten, then the predators tracks disappear, taking flight. You don’t need detect magic to recognize that the ice is not natural, but a magical effect or spell.
"If we believe the rumors are true, this was our dragon," she continues. Kneeling next to one of the impressions in the earth, Tatiana uses her wand to measure how big across the clawed foot was and how deep it sunk into the ground. "I should not presume what kind of dragon just yet, not without further research, but with the deer frozen first and then eaten, it makes me think of a white one."

Closing her book with a snap, Tatiana catches up to the wagon. "Let us hurry. Perhaps the beast has sated itself from last night's meal and is no longer on the prowl, but I would feel better if we were much farther along the trail."
It was probably a mistake comming here. What can we do against a dragon. This place is doomed. half orc considers, but keeps going forward.
As you approach, you see children playing on the town green and townsfolk tending to chores or running errands at shops. Many people look up as you approach, but all return to their business as you go by. The eyes that fall on Decklan linger longer than others. Trakomak also gets a few double takes.

But first, there is the matter of Gundren's condition. Tatiana helps Ammos bring the blind dwarf down from the wagon and to wherever he might find treatment.
To the oxen, "Almost there. We just have to find the inn and then we'll get you guys a nice meal."
Stonehill Inn

The cart is entering town in blue.
The red marked building has a sign that reads Bathen’s Provisions.
The yellow marked building is Stonehill Inn.
He looked around the streets as they past, a farmer come to a new town. - Phandalin. It was bigger than his home village, although most things were. Still small though.
She accepts whatever answer is given and proceeds into the Stonehill Inn to speak to the proprietor.
Sildar Hallwinter

No matter. Tatiana pulls her shoulders back and straightens into her noble upbringing. Smoothing out the mud-encrusted folds of her soiled skirt and tucking a tangled hair behind her ear, she approaches the proprieter. "Master Stonehill, a pleasure," she begins. Knowing that her brother is busy with Gundren, she continues with a gesture towards the dragonborn, "May I present Ammos Grifstone of Waterdeep? I am his younger sister, Tatiana. We look forward to your accommodations." She finishes with a slight curtsy.
She steps aside to allow Alex his opportunity to fill the conversation with his usual flourish.
Nudging the team back to a walk, "Just a little bit more and we'll get all this delivered." there was a big short from one of the oxen "Yes, I know we passed it..."
Toblen Stonehill

As he rides, he'll keep an eye out for a temple or any sign of where a Cleric might be found.

He glances at the dog, "I like your dog."
As he chats, he keeps his attention on the oxen making the turn and making sure the cart does not hit anyone or anything.

Should the overnight accommodations be settled, Tatiana says, "I will return to partake in your menu. I must see to business at Barthen's Provisions, and find someone have a look at Master Rockseeker's condition. May I be directed to both?"

two with four bunks. A silver for single, a silver and five copper for a double room, or four copper for a bed in the bunk rooms." Toblen looks searchingly at Gundren again, "What condition is it that needs looking after?"
Sildar Hallwinter

He continued to guide the oxen.
He looks at Sildar, surprised the he would buy everyone a drink for saving his life. Looks at Tatiana, Ammos, Alex... huh these nobles hardly know how how to drink.
Toblen. You know. I am lucky. Still alive after facing half doze goblins and ... he decides not to tell locals about the dragon - need no stress around. Trakomak buy an ale to every patron.
Turning to Alex, she says, "If you wish to remain here for an early lunch, do let us know the quality of fare." Tatiana proceeds to head back outside under the assumption that Raven is waiting there.

Trakomak you see three patrons in the common room curantly. Toblen takes the coin from you when you offer it.

Following Tatiana’s lead Ammos stays with Sildar and Gundren in the Inn.

"We could help you deliver them," the halfling boy says softly to Raven, "w-where are you taking them?"
Standing at the doorstep, she looks around with concern at the absence of the supply wagon and her companions. Tatiana's first thought is to check the stable, so she walks further out towards the side of the inn while scanning her surroundings in case some thief is still absconding with her charge.
"Well my new friend Carp, we are headed to Barthen's Provisions. Might you know where that is?" Raven knew if he looked up the street he would see the sign. "And have you guided a oxen team before?"
Seeing Tatiana looking for them, "Master Pip, there is a fine lady leaving your father's inn. If you could run over and tell her we are turning the team around and heading up to Barthen's Provisions."
Gesturing to Carp, "Walk in front of me... " he handed the lad the light guiding switch he carried to help guide the oxen, although he himself rarely needed it. Raven softly gave Carp suggestions, knowing that this team was well trained and he controlled them mostly with calls and whistles. "Keep them steady..."

She detours her path to join Raven and Decklan. "So kind of you to tell us," she says to the young child. "What is your name?"

Trakomak with free drinks given to them most the patrons in the Inn gave you polite nods, but one older human man near the hearth gave a loud "Cheers," and big smile when you did the same.
"Oh," Toblen looks a bit ashamed at your question, "towns been have’n it a little trouble with orc’s lately, coming down from the mountain’s. They’ll come round to a lad seems nice as you." He hesitates a moment, "If you’re looking for work though, my wife’s been on me to go out to check on her friend, Adabra. I mentioned her to your blonde friend. The Town Master’s been offering 50 gold to check on her too. Though the wife was more worried about a friend than the gold." He winks.
Pip Stonehill

To a point, at least. "No, I am not married," says Tatiana. "Raven and I are business associates, along with Alexander here."
The wizard pauses. "I do have a brother, and he is here in town, inside the inn." Tatiana turns to Pip, bending slightly to eye level. She says, quietly, "A challenge for you, then. A copper coin if you can, without assistance, identify which one of the newcomers is my brother."
Pip Stonehill

The boys have still not noticed Decklan in the back of the wagon.

He kept the oxen headed toward the provisioner up the street.
Trakomak continue drinking his ale and share some war stories with Toblen if human or any of the patrons willing to listen, but otherwise just waits for his party members to return. Fighting orcs is not a job fir him alone. The other job should also be tricky if Town Master value it at 50 gp. If something Trakomak learned at army - strength in numbers.
Just before their arrival at Barthen's, Tatiana relays the availability and cost of lodging at the Stonehill Inn. "I've already informed the proprietor of our numbers, but I did not presume to select the type of room on your behalf. I believe Alex and Trakomak have already decided on the bunkhouse.
"Speaking of Trakomak," she continues, "what do you three think of him? He appears to be a capable warrior; a bit direct in his approach to problems, but skilled nonetheless. He deserves Surge's payment for delivery of these supplies."
"Seems good in a fight, definitely helped us against the goblins when he certainly did not have to help. He could have just kept on going. I agree he should get Surge's pay. Beyond that, I'm not sure what's next after we make this delivery."
Raven felt a little sad, he had been enjoying working with the oxen and would miss them once the job was completed.
She looks for the signpost marking Barthen's Provisions. "You are, of course, free to depart for your own pursuits once this task has been completed. If you have not yet made a decision, perhaps wait for Master Rockseeker to recover."
Barthen’s Provisions

Tatiana as you right yourself and enter the shop you see three people inside. A half elf is winding cords of rope in the far corner from the door. A Red haired halfling woman is inspecting the items on a shelf to your right, and an older human man with a bushy gray beard and a round belly leans against the font counter. When the older man sees you he stands up straight, smiles, and calls out, "Welcome to Barthen’s Provisions. What can I do for you, mill?"
She indicates any of her companions that have entered the store with her as part of her introduction, then says, "The wagon is just outside, if you wish to inspect your delivery."

Out in the yard the oxen are happy for Raven’s attentions. Decklan no one approaches the yard but you do notice that out on the street a group of three rather ruff looking men are walking past and other townspeople are quick to get out of their way.

Trakomak you notice the boy puff up a little more, "I’m not afraid of talking to people, plus we’re on a mission from the blonde lady. You have to be brave on missions." The halfling boy next to him nods seriously in agreement, "She sent me to investigate something and you and those two over with Gundren are the only new people I see." He gives a little nod like things are now in order. "Who’s you favorite person you were traveling with?" Both boys await your answer with bated breath.
"There are six of us, sir," answers Tatiana. She waits professionally for Elmar to take possession of the supplies, and her eyes scan the shelves for a brief inspection of the merchandise.

Within Barthen’s Tatiana scans the shelves. Barthen's is the biggest trading post in Phandalin. Its shelves stock most ordinary goods and supplies, including backpacks, bedrolls, rope, and rations. The place is open from sunup to sundown. Barthen's does not stock weapons or armor.

Trakomak the boys talk in whispers for a moment before the young human urges the red haired halfling forward. "I’ll tell you the secret if you don’t tell my mum." The boy says, his freckles disappearing as his face flushes an embarrassed red at being the center of attention.
She briefly glances out the window to gauge how much sunlight remains, and decides that now is as good a time as any. "If there is nothing else to settle with our business arrangement, I should like to browse your wares. Others in my company may wish to, as well."
Tatiana indicates her interest in a hooded lantern and a bundle of rations. While she waits for the items to be retrieved, she gives a demonstrative scan of her head across the shelves and says, "I note that while you have an impressive selection, delicate items like jewelry appear absent. Are there other merchants in town that might carry such stock?"
Also, assuming Alex, Raven, and Decklan don't wander off, Tati will hand over their share of the gold.
As Tatiana give him his payment, he simply says "Thank you." carefully pocketing the coins.
Since she is shopping, he glances around the wares, but does not seem to really need anything at the moment.
He stands silently without looking at Tatianna, eyes watching the believed troublemakers. "I may go start a fight. It's a maybe, because if they're just goons I don't want their boss to drop the hammer on the town after we leave. Still..." His voice trails off as he seems to be considering making bad things happen.

Trakomak the young halfling nods, "When me and Pip were playing kill the hydra over in the hollow, we found a secret tunnel in the woods, but bad guys almost caught us. We had to run all the way home." Both boys watch your reaction to their adventure carefully.

It appears not half orc interpret "bad guys" to be other boys of the town - the most reasonable explanation to the Alderleaf's words.

Trakomak you see both their eyes widen a bit. "No you can’t," the dark haired one says, "Papa says we just get away from them if we see them. They’re not nice, they could hurt you." After a pause he adds, "What’s your name?"

"I’m Pip," the small human grins, then elbows his friend softly, "this is Carp. You’ll know um by the red bandanas they wear, and they’re always looking mean at people. They think they’re the boss all the time."

He plants his heel and pivots in a facing movement that would make the hardest drill sergeant smile (inside) and heads towards the shrine he observed earlier.
Before she leaves, Tatiana appraises the young man seemingly lost in thought. "Raven," she says, hoping to provide direction now that his main focus was taken away. "Come along. There are other matters to address."
Hearing Lady Tatiana's voice take a turn to the acerbic as she questions the storekeep shakes Alex out of his dawdling. He remains uncharacteristically silent as he takes in this information [OOC - because his player was busy :)].
Toughs in Phandalin and possibly impotent Lords Alliance representative? Opportunity for both wealth and disaster. Which will it be?
Turning to the storekeep, Alex asks Master Elmar, was it? Do you have standard arrows amongst your many wares? If so, may I have a brace of 20, please? he says as he flips one of the gold pieces from hand to hand. And if I may prevail upon your loquaciousness, these Redbrands, would you say their mischief is more of the subtle kind or are they more akin to bugbears with less facial hair?
As they leave, he tries to get one last look at the oxen who he had walked with for several days. He gives a little sigh to himself thinking they were good company.
Glancing over her shoulder, she pauses. "You've heard our conversation about these 'Redbrands'? Probably just some local hooligans," she says, quietly so as to not declare herself to everyone in Phandalin. "Still, just in case, walk with a little more confidence." Tatiana's eyes flit to Raven's shoulders and the penchant for his chin to turn towards the stables. "Straighten your back and look ahead like you know what you are doing and where you are going. Small-town thugs will only bother you if you appear lost and weak, so don't give them that opportunity."
Raven attempts to stand straighter and look more confident, but at only 5'5" tall and 120 pounds, Raven is anything but intimidating. After a few steps, he is slumped back into his normal posture and stopped to scratch the stray cat which walked by them in the street.

Alex Barthen shakes his head, "I don’t sell weapons and the like, for that you want Linene over at the Lionshield Coster. Big building south of the Green, look for the shield with a blue lion on it. As for the Redbrands, they do both. Sneak around stealing things and, if rumors are to be believed, people. They’ll also bash things to bits when things don’t go their way."
Catching up to them, he says somewhat breathlessly M'lady, yon master storekeep informed me that the place to restock on armaments is none other than the Lionshield Coster—the very group whose items we found in the back of the goblin cave! Perhaps we will even receive a reward for the information! Regardless, I need to go anyway having expended some of my arrows on the various beasts we encountered, but if we go as a group, I believe that would lend credence to our claim and perhaps move the costermembers to be more…thankful. As he says this last, the ambitious Alex mimes the weighing of coins in his hand as he looks plaintively at the austere wizard.
Shaking her head clear of any thoughts of the distant future, Tatiana says, "We can visit the coster after we see to Master Rockseeker's health."
Raven is happy to trail behind the other two more noble looking members of the group.
Pip Stonehill

Raven listened to Alex go on about all of the various entertainments, nodding along whether he understood most of the words or not.
Trakomak leaves tavern trying to be positive.
He is wandering around the town trying to find Town's Master house.
Trakomak goes straight to the building and knocks at the doors loudly, waiting for answer.
I'm half-orc, name Trakomak. I can come tomorrow if it's not best moment for you today to discuss town business, but all I want is to settle in your town. Would there be any unoccupied house or location I can make my home?

Decklan and Tatiana intent on your paths arrive at the shine at about the same time. No one is there a the moment other than the two on you, Alex and Raven close behind. The shrine made of stones taken from the nearby ruins. Carved into the shrine is some sort of coin, as Decklan noticed earlier.
"Hello?" she calls out in case someone is nearby. "Sister Garaele?"
By the time he looks a second time, the figure had slipped into the building. "Missed him..."
Raven looks at the shrine, but does not comment, not having any particular closeness with the named gods.
She calls out again for Sister Garaele, this time looking towards any neighboring buildings.

Sister Garaele

Lol
Half-Orc took at the person who is stupid enough to think his house could protect him against a dragon. Suddenly he have lost the train of thought and even the reason of the visit . And... Am... So... is all he could say at the moment
With a polite clearing of her throat, she introduced herself with a curtsy. "I am Tatiana Grifstone of Waterdeep. With me is Decklan and Raven." Here, she indicated the two with her hand. With her other hand, she indicates Alex. "And our ambassador is Alexander Simonnet Natalis de Bertier du Puy."
Tatiana then adds, "Our afflicted employer is Master Gundren Rockseeker. As stated, he is at the Stonehill Inn. He was captured while traveling and it is reported that he was forced to imbibe some kind of liquid that took his sight. We would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide."

Trakomak the man before you is a slightly rotund man in his late 50's. His plump belly hangs out over his stubby legs, while his greying hair is thinning at the temples and crown. His clothes are a bit to fine for a back water town like Phandalin and he holds himself very importantly. "I am Townmaster Harbin Wester." He introduces himself as he takes a cautious step back from your large self. "If you have some business to attend let us get on with it. I believe you mentioned somthing about a house?"
Raven allowed Sister Garaele to follow immediately behind Tatiana and drifted toward the back of the group, more because he was distracted and not moving with the haste of the others.
Raven asked Alex quietly, "I was curious, why do nobles have so many names? Most folks in my village have two at most - I've only got the one and it seems to work just fine. Even with all those names, mostly it ends up Lord something-or-other anyway."
Raven braced himself to be ready to decipher Alex's answer.
He never breaks stride, headed towards Gundren to see if they can actually help the man. He'd taken peoples' eyes before... it does a number on them. Mentally more than physically. The sudden, soul crushing realization that your entire world changed in an instant... that something you took for granted was gone. As you learn to deal with the lack of sight, depression wasn't uncommon.
Sure, some people were resilient. Decklan always had a touch of respect for tough bastards... but the impact of violently losing your sight was not to be diminished. It was rough, and they owed the boss to see if they could help him.
After Alex's quiet comment, he smiled slightly "Well, bullshit I am very familiar with."
"Yes, I consider you a friend Alex. That is how you get so many names then.
My name is easy, when you find a lost boy wandering the streets of the village with coal black hair talking to ravens, I guess you name him Raven. Although some claim the witch turned me from a raven to a boy, but I don't believe that."

Tatiana as you look over Sister Garaele you see that she knows Gundren more than just by name, but it’s a small town and Gundren is a friendly and boisterous fellow. You don’t get the sense that they are more than friends.
Trakomak is intrigued but soon realize he is very far from having 500 gp and while he hope situation with house availability and price will soon change due to dragon, he certainly need to earn some money
Talking about money, you promise money for fighting Orcs, right? Could you tell any details? I don't think I have all to 500 gold just yet
Conveniently with Decklan in the lead, the door to the Stonehill Inn can be opened without Tatiana's need to do so herself. As it should be.

Tatiana the sister listens to your explination of Gundren’s condition with serious intent.
To Alex Garaele smiles, "We’re not very demanding here. She asks only that we recognize that both good and bad luck are part of the Lady's ways. Don't fear misfortune, as it can be a stepping stone to greater fortunes. Accept both good and bad fortune with a sense of courage." Here the sister smiles more, "Share your good luck when you can. You’ll be honoring Our Lady."
Decklan you are the fist to reach the door to Stonehill Inn, the others all following close behind.
He will scan the other patrons, body language making it clear this isn't the time to make small talk or pester Garaele... whom he turns to as the others enter. "Tell us what you need. Once you know, o'course."
Thank you for your time, see you. But just before leaving Trakomak casually ask what was the wizard's name?

Trakomak Harbin shakes his head at you, "No, no, lad. It's not because you're a half orc, it is because reports say there are more than a few orc in the mix, and I'm not one to send you alone to your death. If you get some help... then like I said, full listing is posted out front." Harbin nods his head like that's all sorted out well. "As for the wizard... name was... Ino? No that's not right."
After a pause Harbin shakes his head, "I've got it written down here somewhere if you really want to know. I remember he was a member of the Lord's Alliance. Those guys are supposed to reliable, but he was kind of a flake if you ask me..."
After reaching the bar, she asks of Pip, "State your case. I will confirm or deny after learning of what you've discovered."
And you are right, the party I met struggled with goblins, they are not ready for Orcs.
Totally. Forgot. Need ask about red bandanas man. Don't want to live of a rumor. Are they kind of local security?

Trakomak when you mention ‘red bandana men’ Harben’s face falls and pales. "W-we have no local security." He stammers. "Now if we’re done, I’m very busy." He starts across the room to a door at the back, "Shut the door, on your way out." He ducks into the far room and shuts the door.
Raven was getting pretty hungry, with the smells of he inn assaulting him, but he loitered around with the others to see what everyone was doing next.
Here, she produces two copper coins and holds one out to each child. "I admit, I thought it would take you all of a tenday to figure it out, but your speed and ingenuity deserves a bonus. I may have use for resourceful individuals such as yourselves, later."
As Gundren is taken upstairs, Tatiana remains behind. She studies Raven's apparent distraction and realizes that it matches her own. "Master Stonehill," she says, should she find Toblen at the counter, "what fare do you have for us today? Something light, perhaps, before I pay a visit to the Lionshield Coster."
He glanced around the group for a second looking self conscious for a moment.

After Toblen lists the recommended courses, Tatiana's smile is tight. "That will do perfectly well, Master Stonehill," she says, lacking the energy to debate for something a little more refined. She will save that for the dinner service.
Excited about this train of thought, Alex turns to the priestess to further his philosophical musings, and is surprised when he doesn't see her. Or for that matter, Gundren, Sildar, or Ammos. Quickly realizing that they must have withdrawn for privacy and focus, he turns back to the bar, just in time to hear mine host Toblen suggest the afternoon fare. Rummaging through his coin pouch, Alex calls out bread and stew sound wonderful, Master Toblen. How much for a serving with a pint of ale?
Toblen Stonehill
